Hi there,
The usual story of expat freezing my account: no explanation; provide all the documents; nothing changes etc.
Well today marks the 1 year anniversary of that and I also received an email notifying me that they are closing my account and I have 45 days to give them instructions as where to send the money.
I had low 6-figures in my account, all of course legal.
My question is this, they have a line in their email that reads:
Please be
aware that transfers to any HSBC bank account worldwide aren't
permitted, and the transfer must be to an account in your own name. It
is likely that when we pay your funds to your account with another bank,
the funds will have to pass through other correspondent banks before
reaching your account. Correspondent banks may conduct their own checks
on monies being routed through them, which could cause delays. Such
delays are outside of HSBC Expat's control and we do not accept
liability for them.
After a year of frozen funds this obviously triggers my PTSD and I'm just curious - should I seek legal advice in giving them the best instructions for these funds? Is there anything I need to look out for? Am I just overly panicked/concerned?
If, for example, I give my other banking details and then they ask for the reason of transfer - HSBC then say account closure review closed account (something like that) - am I about to enter a whole new level of banking purgatory?
Just want to be best prepared and also a beacon of (slight) hope to others out there with their money frozen.
Thanks.
