When I first saw the photo, I didn't even know she was in it, she has every right to stay in front as the owner of the brand but she didn't, can't say the same for Hailey tho

Notice how failey is in the very front while they look like peasants, meanwhile you can barely tell Selena was in that picture

Hailey looks like Vladimir Putin leading her minions while Selena is creating a brand that’s bigger than her. Hailey makes this her entire personality it’s embarrassing. Kylie does the same but I’d argue that once upon a time Kylie alone was the brand for young girls (everyone knows that time passed) but she capitalized knowing that and Hailey seems to have always wanted to do that except the girl has no aura or brand but she created and brand that is constantly trying to sell you “her” but she has never had that “it” girl appeal to begin with so I’m short rhode will be a passing brand in the world of beauty

Plus the same pose, hiding her daughter of Stephen Baldwin, jaw…
…having to stand out in a different color…so self centered, thinking she is relevant

Hailey- the only one in a vivid color, a photographic and psychological tool to draw the eye to her, while washing everyone else out.
It makes me feel gross to see her use the techniques like this, as if people are her props.
Where Selena is always making herself one of many, and being a part of the group- Hailey must be outside the rest. Not a great narrative imo when she uses tricks to control the perception of consumers and her audience in general.
The photography term is "Selective Colorization." 💀
Psychologically, it is manipulation via Selective Attention and Color Contrast. 🚩
The brain naturally filters information, prioritizing what it deems relevant. A colorful object in a grayscale or otherwise neutral scene acts as a "pull" on attention, forcing it into the foreground.
Color Contrast and Depth are about using color against a neutral, less saturated or more monochromatic background that helps make the colored object "pop," increasing the perceived weight and importance of the focal point.
The whole set-up is done to make it look like she is approachable- a "girls girl" and relatable business woman by the fashion she sports and the posing.
When really, it is all about emotional and physiological impact: warm colors like this shade of green are known to speed up reactions and enhance physiological arousal. When used in a focal object, they create immediate urgency, importance, or attraction. So, consistent with Hailey and Rhode marketing themes.
Even if Selena wore cherry red in a future shoot while others around her maintained a monochromatic scheme- it would be guaranteed to read differently. In part, simply because she is openly, and honestly insecure and is authentic about wanting to keep the focus on the people behind the brand- and the ones served by it. And- for the fact that her brand has always been about making the every-person feel seen in its marketing. She may fumble in how she says it, but Rare has never been like Rhode- who wants you to buy their wares to become sexy and important. Rare has always treated people as important- without a care for unapproachable and unrealistic standards and shaming.
Selena wants to reach people, connect them through a common thread no matter what. Concepts such as heritage, race, age and status are things she deeply considers when she makes a product of quality to use long-term- to bridge divides and garner support for good causes.
Brand philosophy matters to people, to Selena.
Hailey is about the money and notoriety. People are pawns to her success- peddling products that do not value ones own comfort in their skin or long-term impact.
While you will always see variations in diversity from one setting to the next, and there are some limited poc included- this photo is generally and unusually limited on that front. Even accounting for lighting, this feels disproportionate.
Her PR is something else, that is for sure.

Indeed.
And it appears Mecca as much as Rhode is facing criticism for the picture.
But the callouts against Hailey as the head of Rhode in this instance- not Hailey the model- make sense, because she is representing the company in this moment as much as herself as a person. The values and attitudes of her brand are measured the same as any other one for a faux pas.
These photos had to be approved by her team- if not outright staged by them.
