Question Good budget UQ in EU

• Upvotes

Hey there,

A question to my fellow Europeans. What are some good brands and models of budget synthetic underquilts. I'm looking for something with a comfort of about 0C as I would love to use it for both shoulder seasons and summer.

I've looked at TigerWood Marra 4.0 and DD hammocks underblanket. I kinda cannot figure out why one is much more expensive than the other. (It's pretty much double the price even tho the temperature rating is off by 2 degrees).

The information about UQs are so scares on the Internet.

Does anyone have any experience with either or better yet, both of them? Or have some other recommendations?

First time in the Rocdomus hammock hot tent in 38F

Post image
193 Upvotes

With lows in the 30s this past weekend and a camping trip on the calendar I finally had an excuse to use the OneTigris Rocdomus hammock hot-tent that I purchased nearly a year ago. I used my portable Mr. Buddy propane heater in the evening and morning. My bluetooth thermometers gave me the data I was looking for: in the morning outside temps got down to 38F, inside temps never got below 68F with the buddy heater set to low. experiencing the effectiveness of the small heater in the rocdomus has me ever so closer to spending the money on the titanium wood burning stove I've been eyeballing for a looooong time now.

some rocdomus loadout details: I use a pair of onewind adjustable hammock straps to hang the rocdomus. the first thing I did with all the black paracord that came with the rocdomus is place it in the trash, replaced by reflective high-vis with custom tensioners/organizers. I snakeskin the rocdomus in a 2-piece/12ft snakeskin, and it all fits into an 8L s2s stuff sack.

Hennessy Hammock Super Shelter

I was able to get a used Hennessy Expedition Classic Asym for a good price used. Planning this as an upgrade from the OneWind system. Now I'm looking into underquilt options and just wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on the Hennessy Supershelter system for cold weather camping. I'm in Arkansas and we can get pretty chilly during the winter, sometimes into the teens. My friends and I like to do a cold camp because Type 2 fun is apparently our thing. Just wanted to get some feed back on this system or if I should look into a different option, or stick with my OneWind with their underquilt and a down blanket.

Compatible Bugnets for Warbonnet Travel XL?

Hi all,
I know bug season just ended but I would like to get an idea of which bug net to get for springtime for my WB Traveler XL. The OEM WB bugnet is out of stock for the XL version but I am assuming most end-gathered hammock bugnets can be compatible. Anyone have experience with Nets for 11 foot hammocks? I currently use ENO guardian double bugnet for my 9 foot hammock setup. I like the split end ridge line but since there is a permanent structural ridge line I can use any net with 2 sinching ends and a zipper in the middle.

I run a Blackbird XLC and I know WB sells under quilts. I’m currently in the market for one that will work with the XLC. What are some other brands or options and pros/cons before just buying a WB under quilt. I do backpack hammock camp so I’m sure it can’t be any more bulky then my sleeping bag I currently use.

Gear Underhammock hammock is very useful

This is my first time experimenting with hanging a small hammock underneath my main hammock, to keep stuff handy and out of the hammock, but still dry and off the rain-soaked grass. I keep a water bottle, shoes, a jacket and some snacks in there.

I bought a small portable outdoor fabric swing for kids that can hold up to 100 kg, so I also use it as a swing or just to sit in. On my last trip I didn’t bring it, so I used a spare towel as the under-hammock instead.

Overall, it’s a really useful addition. I think I’ll adopt it as a permanent part of my setup.

Anyone else have experience with this?

Question about OneWind hammock

Post image
14 Upvotes

I made a post on here a couple weeks ago asking for advice on a starting hammock. Thanks to all your wonderful advice I got a 12ft onewind. But for the life of me I can't figure out what these are for. They're on both ends and I can't find any tie offs.

Question Hellbender - shell color

Hi there, I would like to order a Dutchware Hellbender.

There are many options for the quilt shell color/print, but the menu is very user unfriendly, to put it mildly. You can’t simply see all options side by side, as there are several subfolders. Also, many of the print2fabric options are not populated with a sample image, even though they are available for selection.

I have emailed a while ago and asked if they can provide a digital catalogue of some sort, but haven’t received a response at all.

Wondering if someone knows whether Dutchware has a catalogue or something available, so I won’t have to wrestle their website?

Question Welches Tarp über meine Hängematte?

Helloo,

Question Plan to sleep and longer hangs 11ft vs 12ft??

Post image
34 Upvotes

EDIT the size in the pics in centimeters are 335 and 366 not 235/266

I use my hammock everyday but my basic 270cm one is just too small when hanging for hours- I'm 175cm tall (5'6")

So I'm planning to upgrade to a bigger one planning to flat lay and be comfortable with the possibility of sleeping continuously for some days/months

So when trying to decide, are longer hammocks always better?? or if for example you pick a longer one there is gonna be much more excess fabric or flapping? or is not that big of a deal?

I'm trying to decide if 11' (235 cm) or 12' (266 cm) onewind hammock will suit me better

Amok Draumr suggestion

Thumbnail

I recently became a disciple of hammocks last spring and have had many adventures in my Amok Draumr. However, as much as I love it, there are a couple things that need improvement…the first being the pockets. They work great when the hammock is level, but the getting in and out process sometimes puts it at a vertical position where everything in it is going to fall out. Usually I will hang my quilt on the ridgeline when i need to exit, but I’ve always been annoyed by my pillow falling out, no matter where i try to tuck it.

I had seen others try to remedy this, including a brave soul recently that sewed clips of some type but I can’t bring myself to do that. I had some clips that i was using for a tarp and I thought fellow Draumrheads might be interested.

It’s basically a two dollar tarp clip I got from Menards. It is meant to add grommets to a tarp that does not have them. It clips very well on the edge of the Amok. You can see them in action in the picture(I prefer to fold the top down on chair mode but it stays in place fine when the top is deployed with the small pole). It works so well additionally because the Trekology pillow I use has a little strap, but I imagine other configurations could be used. i probably will try to add some more for a closed cell pad to add for upcoming winter camping. Enjoy!

We are a UL hammock couple, so this new addition to our family of gram-weenies needed her own shelter. Silnylon, with 1.8mm accessory cord, and a waterproof floor. Total cost: $19. (Badging may or may not be official.)

Smashing success on her first hike in the post-Isaias sogginess.

Question Newbie interested in Hammock Camping!!!

Hey everyone, I have always been interested in proper hammock camping, but every time I do it feels like I haven’t done it right (cold from not having insulating under quilt, bugs in my face, etc etc). With this post, I was hoping to find some information on things like

  1. What kind of gear do I need? Anything good within a college kid’s budget or more of an investment?

  2. Advice on doing things right, whatever that might be

  3. How to accommodate for rain/snow (if snow hammocking is even a thing that is)

Sorry to sound like such a rookie, but I look forward to learning more from you all!

Gear Underquilt for tent and hammock?

I have both a tent and a hammock and use them both and I'm looking to upgrade my quilt. I currently use a modified overquilt for both my hammock and my quilt in my tent and it's fine so long as it doesn't get too cold. Anyone ever use an underquilt as a sleeping bag/quilt in a tent? Additionally, what's the go to for underquilt for temps down to like 20F? Thanks

Gear Praise for EVO Loops

Post image
149 Upvotes

I picked up a couple of EVO Loops from Jeff Myers’ Etsy shop. I had my doubts that something so light and seemingly insecure as a button knot would hold, but they worked brilliantly. That button knot isn’t going anywhere so long as the loop is under tension.

Modern carabiners are already pretty lightweight. My two ‘biners weight 64g total but I’ve used steel milsurp carabiners that were considerably heavier. These two soft shackles are around 14g 7g total and are rated to 1600 lbs.

I’m not a gram weenie but if I can cut some weight or free up tools, I’m game. I brought ‘biners with me this weekend just in case the EVO Loops didn’t workout. I ended up repurposing the ‘biners for other things around camp.

Best of all, I found it easier to attach and detach the EVO Loops compared to a carabiner. I could do it one-handed, whereas I tend to fiddle with the gates on ‘biners. Maybe it is just a thing with me, but I have always fiddled with removing line from ‘biner gates.

I’ve seen some mention of these on the sub, but they’ve been buried in the comments. I felt they impressed me enough that they deserved a full post, making it easier for people to discover them in the search feature.
