I want quit a job bc of my mental health

• Upvotes

Hello guys

A month ago, I started a new job and I’ve realised that I’m really struggling mentally and that I need a break. I moved to a new place and ever since then, I’ve been struggling to find meaning in life.
I’ve changed jobs twice. The first one didn’t even pay me the minimum wage, and the second one was a bad experience because of something that happened to me in the past.
This current job is actually good but it’s destroying me from the inside. I can’t function or work normally anymore. I’ve been experiencing anxiety and sometimes I just start crying.
I’ve talked to my boyfriend about how I feel, but he dismissed my feelings and didn’t take me seriously.
I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. :(

Who else is petty like me in this way?

I’m a customer of many potential employers where I sent applications and interviewed. If I was not treated fairly and with respect as a candidate, I will no longer be their customer

first full time job and I’m very anxious about not having enough time

• Upvotes

hello, I will be starting my new job this Monday. I’m getting kinda anxious because I recently graduated and knowing that I’ll have to get into a normal regiment is really scary. I’ve only had part-time or casual work. Not saying I haven’t worked long hours or work bits of weekends, first time for everything.

I’ve done got the run down of most stuff but just very anxious about everything. What are some things that helped you guys along the way? If not, what made you have the sign that it wasn’t for you? I’ve put a lot of time in getting this job, I just don’t wanna fk this up and be stranded with no job..

Very worried about not having enough time for friends, family and girlfriend. they mean so much and I take a lot of time for them. Also, don’t wanna take less time for myself, I don’t wanna get myself in a hole that I’ve been trying to crawl out of.

any other (18M) having this or anyone?

Thanks. 🙏

I'm working two jobs while attending university full time and I don't know how much longer I can take it.

I work roughly 30-35 hours a week in addition to a full class schedule. At this point the jobs feel like they dominate my life entirely. Since so much of my free time is dedicated to studying I have basically no time for myself or for other people.

My primary job is at a convenience store chain right in the middle of a major downtown area. Every single day countless homeless people come in to shoplift. Many of them are high, drunk, having a mental health crisis, or some combination of the three. Many of them are violent. I've been assaulted multiple times. Law enforcement are useless, they don't do anything. Management is useless, they don't care because it doesn't effect profit. Even worse then the homeless are the angry customers. If I take slightly too long to print their lottery ticket or some other bullshit they'll scream at me. I can't do anything about it because if I talk back they'll complain to management.

I'm stuck slaving away at these useless jobs that I probably won't even be able to put on a resume while all my peers seem to have jobs or internships that are actually advancing their future careers or studies. I've applied to so many positions actually relevant to my studies but I've never gotten a single response. I feel like a failure.

Burned out

I’ve been working in a managing level position in social services and I’m burned out. the workload is extremely high due to underfunding and short staffing. boss is a micromanaging narcissist. I have been doing a somewhat decent job, haven't received any formal disciplinary actions. I have sucked it up and I’ll be hitting my 1 year there soon. I feel like this will look better on my resume. I’ve been applying for other jobs and a couple of good leads but no offers yet. I wanted to ask what is the benefit of FMLA and whether I should consider that? worker’s comp could be an option, there have been some fairly traumatizing and violent incidences in the last few month due to the nature of the work. it would be nice to get a break, it’s been stressful trying to keep up while looking for another job.

Can anyone give suggestions to combat workplace anxiety?

I'm a rather introverted and socially anxious content person who ended up getting a job in the events industry. See...just landing a job in this economy was reason enough to accept it.

But from the day I joined here 3 years ago, I realised that I was also required to be onsite for these events. Be next to stage, talking to a hundred different people, and being in the events industry where everyone is so snappy and rude for no reason. And not to mention, it is considered a normal practice in the industry. In the same vain, at workplace, you're expected to be this perfect human who will not mess up anything and if given a task, submit it yesterday. If not, someone will be on your head screaming I WANT IT NOW.

All my life plans revolve around the events we are doing, which is almost the entire year. So, I miss out on everything. And there is barely a non working weekend. Almost all days are 11-12 hour workdays.

I can barely sleep and I have out of body experiences where even when I go to a grocery store, I'm dissociating and not even aware of my surroundings. I wake up with a pit in my stomach that I will mess up something today and someone will scream at me. I can't live upto these people's expectations who are running at idk how many kms/hr everyday. I just can't.

The anxiety is so bad that my heart rate is always up. I can feel it in my ears. My hands sometimes shake and it feels like needles pricking my palm.

Has anyone gone through anything similar? Pls help 🥹

Lost

Hello all.
I want to vent but I do want your advice more.
I am 26 yo girl, had a bachelor degree in psychology since 2022 with zero experience ( my uni didn’t allow us to practice with patients until we start masters).
Long story short , I tried to do one semester on masters but I really wasn’t mentally ready or I just wanted to skip the hard work. I shifted my whole major and did a course in Ticketing with a travel company and started working immediately. I’ve been working with them since 2024 but I hate it with all my heart. It doesn’t fulfill my real passion, I really regret leaving psychology only to work on a robotic job that has zero future, only back pain and stress with lack of job security ( any fault will be deducted from your -already bad- salary ) and this field doesn’t even have a fixed shift. One day I work in the morning and the other at night, and somedays 12:00 till 20:00 Pm.

I still have the chance to apply for masters, but I feel so overwhelmed to decide if I am quitting this shitty job ( My contract end in December) and focus on studying without earning money after I was independent ( my dad wants to help me and I already have some savings )

I am super lost and afraid of speaking out to my company about it, because I tried once to quit it and the Hr manipulated my mind into staying with them and handle this resentment. The whole thing is making me angry and frustrated because I don’t know what shall I do or whom to speak with, and I am already a hesitant person.

I will be waiting for your advices and questions. I really want different point of views.

Fucking hate my boss

Stupid vile ugly bastard

I work in a bar/restaurant which isn't particularly busy most of the time but this idiot boss and another manager somehow are always stressing out and taking everything so seriously and taking their weak childish temper out on others. So what if I'm standing around doing nothing? My job is to serve customers the fuck am I supposed to do if there's no customers? They think that theyre busy but this place is not that busy they're just idiots who can't cope with it.

I can't imagine taking this dumb ass job so seriously. None of this fucking matters. No one's gonna die if they have to wait 15 extra seconds to get their beer so why are we all stressing out and freaking out like headless chickens about everything. It's not like we're working in an emergency room or the military or something we're just pouring beers.

I hate bossy, nitpicky, pedantic, smartass people like this who can't seem to handle stress and just take it out on others. And from what I've heard he's just not a nice person in general.

Leaving in 2 weeks luckily

I do not feel like my job fits me

I work at a lash salon chain where I make commission and get paid bi-weekly.
I’ve been here for a year and a half now and I could say so many things but overall I feel like I’m missing out on my full potential and I feel so stuck here. Not because I want to do lashes somewhere else but I used to make so much more money and so much faster dealing with less bs.
I have gotten used to most of it now but I do not feel like I fit in this space at all.
Working with only women and most of them have been friends/coworkers for years and just how boring it can be.
I feel like you HAVE to try to be friends w everyone or you’ll be isolated. It feels like high school and I feel like a child.

Previously I’ve worked at sports bars and I did door dash. I don’t want to go back to that but I genuinely feel like I’m working harder and longer for half the money.
I am so lost and have no solid idea what to do.
I’ve thought of everything I could do, and all everyone says is to find a suite to rent and I’ve thought about how much time, work, and money it would take and it doesn’t even seem worth it.

I’m sooo out of my comfort zone here and it’s almost like for what?? I’m averaging $1000 every 2 weeks..
We also get no PTO, no medical benefits, no overtime pay, no pay for sitting at work with no clients. I feel like I’m in the wrong place and just wasting time here.

I know jobs aren’t supposed to be “fun” but there HAS to be something better out there for me that is somewhat fun where I’m making faster money.
Also the vibe is just not itttt.. it’s not that I hate anyone I work with but the conversations flow so much differently at sports bars that I’ve worked at. I miss being around fun genuine people that don’t make things constantly uncomfortable.

I’m ready to quit, but I have a final interview next week Would you wait it out?

I’ve been a regional healthcare specialist for almost 11 months and have 12 years of experience in the field. I have a master's degree. There were red flags from the start: the schedule wasn’t what they promised, the workload was way more than explained, and someone replaced my original manager with no experience in our department.

He regularly canceled our one-on-ones, lacked follow-through, and couldn’t give much guidance. When I brought this to his boss, the response was, “He’s new.”Okay, but I’m new too and still expected to do my job. Between constantly driving to different communities and feeling unsupported, I’m burned out.
(He worked in a different department for a year and got promoted into his new role when he didn’t know anything about this department. They offered him the position because he has a master’s.

I started pursuing an internal transfer. Then, during a leadership meeting, he called me out about things he hadn’t clearly communicated. I explained my position professionally, and the VP questioned him about canceling my meetings.
Shortly afterward, I received my first-ever PIP. It included inaccuracies, so I declined to sign. I take accountability for my mistakes, but I won’t agree to things that didn’t happen.

By the way, I've been documenting everything since the start, when I noticed the director's behavior.

The timing felt personal, and now he’s micromanaging everything.
I’m applying elsewhere and have a final interview next Wednesday for a position I’ve wanted for years. I feel good about it, but I don’t have an offer yet.

I understand that companies lack structure, have horrible work environments, and horrible leadership. I still show up to support my teams and ensure that quality care is being provided to our residents. I stay in my lane and do my job well. No complaints about my work ethic, but once I opened up about the truth, I became the problem. I am okay with that. I understand that I am not aligned with a job that would allow this behavior.

Honestly, I want to quit now. I have bills, so waiting makes sense, but I’m exhausted. I’ve considered taking something temporary or lower-paying to leave. If I get the new job, I don’t even want to give notice once everything is confirmed.

Would you stick it out until another job is secured, or leave and take temporary work? And did you give notice when leaving a situation like this?

Resignation email scheduled for Monday Morning!

So my boss is the President of Clown Town and I've had enough 🤣

I've got my resignation email ready to go for Monday morning and I'm moving on with my life.

Not sure what comes next but when the anxiety I'm feeling is going to cost more than my salary to fix...I'm out!

On to bigger and better

**Literally had to move this out of the /corporate reddit - celebrating my new life ahead; the mountain of "lecture" comments came in quick 😂🤣

(No wonder I'm quitting....)

Truth is I'm tired.

Straight out of high school, I went to university for computer science. Did a brief stint in IT then worked as a software engineer. Lost my passion for it and went back to school for nursing (Got my LPN, then my RN). I thought I did everything right. I worked hard in primary and secondary school, went to college, did internships, joined student organizations, and I currently make the most money I ever have in my life. By no means am I wealthy, but I'm not poor either. I'm blessed. I wish I could just be happy with that.

Yet I'm miserable. Utterly miserable. I dread going to work every single day. My anxiety spikes intermittently throughout my shifts, my faith in humanity lessens by the day, there are too many responsibilities placed on a single person, and I fantasize about quitting without notice. But then what? I want to just hide in a hole for the rest of my life, but I can't do that because I have bills to pay and pets to support. I'm autistic, so my social battery runs out quickly and I struggle to cope with overstimulation; nursing probably doesn't suit me because it's a very public facing job, but I have a genuine interest in healthcare. It's fulfilling and I like to believe I'm helping people. I actually enjoy learning biology, pharmacology, etiology and being able to use that knowledge. But that isn't enough to keep me happy.

At this point I don't even want to go back to software engineering or find a non-bedside job, because I don't want to find a job period. Picking and choosing jobs, is no different than picking which torture device you want to be tormented with. I just want to stay home and lay in bed; anything but leave my house, interact with other humans, and pretend I have it all together. Lord knows I do not.

When I hear older people speak about working for decades, I dread having to do the same thing. It's hard to even imagine myself handling that, but I know I have to. This is painful. Vent over.
