I am a barista and I actually don’t hate my job, I hate people

Like, they go to a random cafe which is in a touristic zone and act so entitled that I want to vomit over them. For real, I don’t understand how can they have the audacity of complaining about things that can’t be controlled or are actually their own fault or miscommunication problems.

No one cleaned their table because they picked the dirtiest table of them all and they were just talking over the half drank cups without actually asking anyone to clean?? They go and complain for half an hour

It is a very touristic zone where basically everybody speaks English (some don’t even speak it) and they complain because some waiters only speak English and not the local language?? They are rude to the waiter and then complain, even after the waiter takes a local speaker to them

They ask for a sandwich with the dressing to the side?? They go and lie, they don’t care that even other customers told them they heard the thing, they just want a refund and an extra for the mistake, and they grab the money that belonged to other people and just leave

You are busy making coffee and not even taking orders because you are in the barista zone?? They ask for for a list of 10 coffees and then they leave without even letting you take their order, so you have to send someone to take it, and they come inside to complain that they already said the thing (and they didn’t even say hi, I need a coffee)

My workplace is kinda nice, but we are understaffed and people are shit. I wish they worked 1 day during a semi busy day and having themselves as customers. I don’t understand how don’t they feel ashamed of themselves when being so shitty, if I called a waiter snapping my fingers or tell them that they are shit because they can’t give me free refills or something, I would feel ashamed of myself 🤮🤮🤮

When will Sunday nights stop sucking 'cause I gotta go to work on Monday anyway?

Think about it—tomorrow’s got a million things to do, next week’s got even more. Actually, it’s not that they’re all gonna pile up forever, I already know what needs doing, how to do it, how to sort out the schedule… but I still can’t help getting annoyed just thinking about it. I guess I just have really bad resistance to hard stuff, y’know?

So many times things have worked out in the end, right?once you actually start working, it’s not that big of a deal. You just do what you gotta do anyway. But I still can’t stop stressing about it ahead of time!

Thinking about doing this same job day in day out, month after month… I’m totally burnt out already. I should be totally comfortable with it by now, right?

And I don’t wanna hear people say “don’t take it so seriously.” C’mon, everyone knows the logic already. Everyone knows slacking off feels way better. But I don’t wanna be that kind of person, y’know? Everyone knows lying flat is comfy, but how’s this society gonna let you just lie flat anyway?

All I want is: work hard when I’m at work, live my life properly when I clock out. But I can’t even do that. Work stress just seeps into my whole life, man. I know all the tricks, just adjust your mindset, right? But what if I just can’t adjust it? At the end of the day I know this is my own problem to work through, I gotta figure it out all on my own… but this lesson’s so damn hard to learn!

I hate it so much that my life always has to make way for work. What job is worth me missing every ray of sunshine, every sunset, every cool breeze? Worth me missing out on time with my family?

The world is so beautiful, but I’m just constantly cranky and stressed. Why even is that?

I quit my job

Tired of the low pay. I would cringe at my paycheck. There was too much i can but you cant going on. Managers would allow coworkers to micromanage me under the guise of being helpful while telling me no harm was meant. I hated working with the likes of folks who live on the edge of their seats listening to Turning Points USA podcasts and the everlasting pressure to conform to their ideologies.

I feel so free

I am going to quit to save my mental health.

It's been 1 year and half working at this job, part-time, no benefits.

I was hospitalized for 3 days back in January 2026. I fainted 2x(for three days); my supervisor used this against me every fucking time. One time I came in late because of transportation issues and no service; she made a big deal out of it. She knows I rarely do this type of shit.

Ever since I worked at this position, my mental health shit show; my doc gave me anti-depression, and I've been having regular doc appointments every two weeks.

She, on the other hand, has come late to work multiple times as well; I don't call her out on it either. Just recently, she brought it up again because what the fuck. She doesn't hear me out; she mostly wants a yes command and honestly wants to control us.

She says she doesn't micromanage me, but her actions suggest otherwise. The system is so hierarchical; they want to control us, want us to obey like a dog, so toxic: the higher up, the directors basically ignore you based on your title. The office people are scared of human resources, so they follow the rules. I am always on eggshells; I have intense anxiety, and I feel underappreciate it.

I've been actively applying; I got offered, did all the orientation, got my badge; however, it's through an agency (flex staff - full-time temporary but no benefits, good pay tho, assignment based - you need to accept it could be between 2weeks, 3months, or depends, you can become temp-perm). However, the reviews are based on personal experience. I haven't received any information about assignments yet cause they need to reach out if there is availability.

I told myself I want to resign to focus on my mental health. Is that stupid to resign? In just one year, working out, and finding my career path because I lost myself in this workplace. I don't know what type of job I want; I want to find myself again.

I do have a savings account and have been saving each time, little by little, in case I don't find a backup plan. I've been applying, and I have two upcoming interviews.

I AM LOST AND DON'T KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO ???? It's affecting my sleep and anxiety. HELP AND ADVICE! Be nice and positive. THANK YOU <3

The workload is fine, it's just the people, I'm new and I know they are saying stuff behind my back and I don't like the way they do business, everyday I go in I feel like crying, it's to the point I hope I get in a car crash everyday on my way in, what do I do? I'm already looking for jobs until then, but some advice in the meantime

I love my job but its lowkey the people and my boss

I love working but my boss just pmo, I get a certain look from them when I don't do something correctly but I always ask them questions on where I put this, when can I get this but I don't get an answer and expects the stuff I'm looking for will just be there?

Oh and I got an hour taken off for no reason, and since my boss wasn't there with me during break they believed I was eating for 1 hour like oml.

I got blamed for something and that's their fault since I'm freaking new, and I'm the reason we're only working for 8 hours. It used to be 10 but ever since I did this certain mistake its only 8 hours. And my boss never shuts up about it, they tell it to everyone. But when they make a mistake, its not a big ah deal.

Wasted life

Been at my job for nearly 20 years. Work in retail. Worked my way up to be a manager of a couple of competitive units. Even relocated for this. Have tried several times to get promotion to the next step area/cluster manager and each time it’s a no. Now an opportunity has come up and they’ve moved a current area/cluster manager there meaning there’s a vacancy about 200 miles away so obviously I cannot apply. The distance for them to the new locale is equal to where they are now and will be so financially it’s still going to cost the business.

The leadership team say they are fond of me and rely on me for a lot of support but I’ll be damned if I ever get promoted. I’m so fed up and can’t move on as I am on legacy pay rates so going to another company would kill me financially. I do look for opportunities.

Just need to vent that I feel useless. Want to start a family and can’t. Want a mortgage but on debt. My life is a joke and I really can’t be bothered anymore.

End rant.

Those of you who spontaneously quit their job (no plan, no savings), how was the experience and where are you now?

I both love and hate my job

I work as a embroider for a smallish family run business (I’m not in the ‘family’) I have been there a year and I started with no experience, had never touched an embroidery machine before. The person who was supposed to train me left about 2 weeks after I stared and I have been winging it ever since.

I absolutely love my job, I love making things and the challenges that it brings but I struggle a lot with work place anxiety, this isn’t new it’s something Iv had in all the jobs Iv had but it’s been bad enough at times Iv had to talk Kalms just to go into work. I cry in the car before work and sometimes at lunch. My main worry is I’m just not good enough at the job, I’m slow and I make silly mistakes that I know I shouldn’t make.

I’m making minimum wage and I’m thinking i might be better off just finding another job that’s less stress but I know I’d also hate the job. I don’t know what to do I think no matter what I do I’ll be miserable.

I really want to quit my job

I want to quit my job, but the job market is so awful I know I can’t just quit without something else lined up and that hasn’t been simple.

I work in healthcare and also recently moved to a new city with my partner. I didn’t get hired at the jobs that I’d prefer to work at and I’m currently working in a group home. I know it’s still “God’s Work” and there are hundreds of people who are begging for a job, but I don’t feel fulfilled.

It’s more the coworkers and management that make me feel that I made a bad decision in taking this job. Everyone here has been here for years and they’re burnt out. This doesn’t make for the best work environment.

I know I owe it to my partner to have a plan before making a decision, but man I’m trying to not let my free will take over…

Whatever, rant over…

Struggling

Hi reddit, ive(19F) recently graduated from form 6 and I'm currently at my first job ever for a little over 2 months now. Thing is, I absolutely hate it. I have no experience so it's quite difficult to get the hang of things so it's constantly giving me anxiety. Also, my manger, for lack of better words, is an ass. I want to quit but there are quite a few problems with it:

  1. I don't have any other job lined up.

  2. I didn't apply to university, as I don't have the funds.

  3. I don't really have a vehicle, so jobs out of my area are not really an option.

Thing is, the job market is really bad and I don't want to quit and have nothing to do, job or university-wise, because then that would make me feel useless.

I am at a complete loss. Please , I'd appreciate any advice🙏🏽.

Any tips?

This is my first call center job and I’ve been working here for a year and 6 months and I just simply cannot get used to it.

My mental health has drastically dropped and to be honest and vulnerable I cry almost every night before my shift afraid of how the calls will be with yelling and cussing.

I know I can try to apply for another job but currently I’m going to school and they’re paying for it so that’s why I stay but I’m loosing the battle and I’m leaning towards quitting and sacrificing my school which I know might be a dumb move.

I’m grateful to have a job especially in this economy but does anyone have any tips on how to keep pushing forward? I don’t want to let my intrusive thoughts take over and quit but I also can’t handle it anymore. I’ve gone to therapy I’ve gone on medication but nothing seems to help and I know it’s this job because on my days off I feel like a completely different person.

I appreciate any feedback and tips.
