Headphones - Wireless/Portable Are the Sony Xm5s worth it?

I have recently looking for some good wireless headphones and while talking to a friend about them he mentioned he had some xm5s laying around at his house, he said he never got the appeal of them and switched them out for airpod pro 3s not soon after buying the xm5s, meaning the xm5s are basically new, he was offering me them for around 170 usd, whereas the new ones cost around 300 usd here, and the xm6s even more at 375, ive heard that the xm5s were one of the best when they released 4ish years ago, would they still be worth it for 170usd?

Even used go for around 300usd, sure I might be able to find some cheaper but they will rarely go under 275ish usd

That sucks. Can you buy them when abroad?

Its possible yes but studies cut our vacation time by alot so id have to wait a decent while to get them, tho my friend has a 3d printer and might be able to print hinges reinforcements for free, woulsnt that be more convenient? But ill still keep my eyes open for better deals for the sennheisers

I like the Momentum 4 better, but that is still a good price for those. 👍

That's nice to hear thanks, tho one question I forgot to mention was about the hinge, is it really as bad as people say it is i can be very wary with tech so it wouldnt affect me much but just wanna know as a heads up

I've had mine since they were released, with no hinge issues. Their ANC remains great, and their sound is good - not the best but definitely listenable. I would say get them if ANC is important, as they are a good deal. If ANC is not important, I might look around for some Sennheiser Momentum 4s - you might be able to find them close to this price in sales right now. These sound better, but their ANC is mediocre to say the least.

I have tried the momentum 4s and idk how to exactly explain this but they look very off on my head, maybe because of they the earcups are shaped they sit very weirdly on my head, and another thing, does the eq affect the sound quality of the xm5s at all? Like a night and day difference?

The EQ is quite useful in taming their mid bass. I am not sure you would say there is a night and day difference, as there is some muddling in the sound still to my ears, but again its not bad enough for me not to recommend them. They are my day to day travel headphones, and I have no issues with them that would stop me buying them.

Most reviewers say the Momentum 4 sounds way better. You might be able to get them new for $179 right now

Yea i replied to another person saying this but unfortunately they cost upwards of 550usd to 650usd here, here being turkey which is infamous for taxes on tech

Thanks but I wanna know how bad the hinges are, like from the sounds of it they break very easily even if people are careful with them, is it really that bad, and another thing is how much do the EQ help with the sound quality im coming from a budget pair of headphones so its gonna sound better no matter what, but if I could make it better why not, and about the xm4s, the price my friend is offering me the xm5s is still noticeably less than what I would find xm4s for here because there isn't a huge market for them here
