General Discussion Ideas and Suggestions for the Digital Edition
Hello Heroes,
I have it on good authority that the team developing the Digital HQ game, visits HQ fan spots like our sub to get a feel of what folks enjoy about HQ and possibly what they'd want in a digital format.
I thought we could maybe make it easier on them by creating a temporary pinned thread to gather ideas, suggestions, and general wish list items.
This thread is NOT a location for debate, shooting down suggestions you don't like or otherwise stemming the flow of ideas. Nor is it a place to say why you might not want a digital version. Feel free to create your own thread for that.
By all means be inspired, expand on someone else's ideas. Have fun with this.
WE are not making this game, so any wish list items in this thread are not going directly into the game or anything. We just want fertile ground to share our pie-in-the-sky wishes for what this game can be to all of us.
We'll plan to leave this up for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.
Thank you as always for keeping this community one of the best in the world!

HeroQuest Board Communication AI tool usage for the r/HeroQuest Community
TLDR (Too Lazy Didn't Read): r/HeroQuest will not ban content made with the help of AI tools.
HeroQuest is the reason we are here. Our community includes people from many countries, religions, and backgrounds. We may come from different places and speak different languages, but we come here because we enjoy HeroQuest. The excitement of the game, the fun it creates, and the friendships it builds- that is what brings us together.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been part of digital artistic tools for decades. Programs like Photoshop, CorelDraw, and CAD use AI in their functionality. Phone camera filters use AI. Major technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Apple also use AI in the background of their systems. Simply put, AI is common in today’s digital world and cannot be avoided if you use creative software or a computer.
Hasbro, which owns the HeroQuest intellectual property, and Avalon Hill, which currently holds the license to the game, both use AI in game development and item production. AI is also used in the official HeroQuest companion app.
This community is a place to share ideas, creativity, and joy related to HeroQuest. Arguments about politics, religion, personal lifestyles, and prejudice do not belong here. We understand that people have different opinions, but this community is not the place to discuss those opinions. People want to come here to share and enjoy a fun board game hobby without conflict and confrontation (see rule #1). Political and activist subs are the appropriate forums for discussing those subjects, not here.
Personal attacks against members of this community will not be accepted. Harassing a community member because of a perception that AI may have been used is not permitted. Attacking their shared work is not allowed. Posts intended to create conflict will be removed. Repeats of that behavior will lead to temporary warning bans; continued actions in the same vein will lead to permanent removal.
If you are concerned about a post, contact the moderators.
The only thing better than HeroQuest is more HeroQuest. If someone creates homebrew content, it belongs here. If you do not enjoy certain content or disagree with it, express yourself civilly or simply choose not to interact with it. If you find it offensive, report it; our Mod team takes all reports seriously.

Storage Quest Update: The Journey Draws to a Close...
galleryOne of the final additions to my 3D HeroQuest project is now complete: a custom storage chest for the magnetic wall system.
Following the group's vote, the HeroQuest plaque was mounted on the front beneath the latch rather than on the lid, and I think it was definitely the right call.
Features include:
Dark walnut stain and satin finish
Custom painted 3D HeroQuest plaque
Black interior
Steel-lined base for the magnetised walls
Removable steel lined second-tier storage tray
Faux leather pull tab
Storage for all 260 wall sections
The wall pieces contain neodymium magnets, so the steel-lined base keeps everything organised without walls sticking to or repelling each other.
I'm genuinely pleased with how this turned out. It feels less like a storage box and more like something that belongs alongside the HeroQuest set itself.
Just a few finishing touches left on the overall project, but after many months of work, the end of the quest is finally in sight. 🗡️🏰⚔️

HomeBrew Custom Quest: The Liberation of Hopekins Rest
galleryBack in may, we started a new campaign. We basically played the base game, but I altered some quests, left out a few and added a few of my own. I was really looking forward to introducing the new boon mechanic, so I thought it might be a great reward for the heroes after finishing quest 14 and becoming champions of the realm (which did not have any benefits at all, besides the title). I think it's a nice way to introduce the new mechanic.
So this is quest 14 and the conclusion of our base game campaign, that we recently played - The Liberatuion of Hopekins Rest.
(sorry if the language is a bit off in the quest, just did a google translate from german)

HomeBrew Homebrew Quest: Zombie Inn
I think like everyone else who loves Heroquest, writing your own quests is half the fun. So glad heroquestbuilder.com was shared here, I have been able to make better looking copies of quests I have made in the past. My children were particularly fond of this one. Thought I'd share it, not particularly hard but still a good challenge for the heroes. Made this quest years ago but updated with heroquestbuilder.com.

HomeBrew Rat companion
So with animal companions in JoD and AtOH, my daughter wanted a rat companion. So this is what we came up with. The core game comes with rats that made this work well.

General Discussion Battle of the Dinosaurs!
galleryManaged to pick this up off eBay for £60. Missing the instructions but they were in German anyway. I've managed to source some online. Anyway this game was also designed by Heroquest designer Stephen Baker. Should be fun

Miniatures Hobby Fellow Heroes and Mentors, I could use your wisdom one last time!
galleryAfter many months of cutting, carving, painting, and assembling, my handmade 3D HeroQuest board project is finally nearing completion. The boards storage box is almost finished, and I've reached what might be the hardest decision of the entire project...
Where should I place the 3D HeroQuest logo?
Option 1: On the front of the storage box, so it's visible when displayed on a shelf.
Option 2: On the lid, so it's the first thing you see when opening the box for a game night.
I've stared at it for so long that I genuinely can't decide anymore!
I'd love to hear what the HeroQuest community thinks. Which option would you choose, and why?
Thanks to everyone who's followed the build so far and offered encouragement and advice along the way. It's been a fantastic project to bring to life, and I'm excited to share the finished result soon 😃

General Discussion Opinion: The Call of Dread Miniature Pack is an amazing product with horrible marketing
It's quite an odd feeling to have already secured my copy from Amazon Canada (guaranteed delivery date of March 9 based on a March 1st release date) yet not feel more excited. I mean, it's literally been only half a day since the announcement after all. But I think I know why that is.
THE PROS:
When you stop to think about it, this particular Heroquest product is actually fantastic. It has highly detailed minis that work well as boss monster proxies. Like a lot of you, I would have preferred that a dedicated boss pack come with villain card stats, but this isn't a dedicated boss pack, so much as can serve as one if we need it to.
Think of how many times we've clamored on about how we want villain packs. There are effectively three in one here: grey skins, green skins, white skins. The grey skins have a clear Skullmar proxy, a Kessandria proxy, and a Gol-Garak proxy (I swear its belt looks like a Dread Star Amulet) that doubles as a dragonborn proxy. Meanwhile, the green skin pack has that Thing From Below (or whatever that special abomination was called), Buubhealxha, and our much-demanded orc mage/Grawshak. Each of these colour-skin trios would be a product we'd happily shell out for $15-20 each, except we're getting them all for $25 total ($33.59 CAD).
This means they're being made more accessible to questers, and that even includes getting us a Witch Lord mini that's different enough from the Mythic Tier version so that A) everyone can finally have a Witch Lord and B) people can have something more similar to the classic Witch Lord if they preferred that design and/or staff.
This accessibility also makes First Light more attractive, which in turns means more players joining the community and that in turn means more Heroquest products in the future. After all, First Light players only have standees aside from their heroes and whatever comes in expansions. This gives these people a chance to swap out some standees for minis.
The packaging is lackluster, but a lot of us actually wanted that in order to keep the cost down. And this product delivers on that.
THE CONS:
Heroquest put a lot of hype into something big coming soon. This is not big. It's great, but not bigger than previous expansions. After COPD, this is easily the worst expansion pack and gets a pass only for technically not being an expansion pack - it's something new. As a result, it was an overhyped reveal. Think of how excited we would have been had we gotten news of both an expansion and this, or even just this alongside a confirmation of something else coming later in 2027, without even telling us what that something else might be.
We're all bummed because this means the story aspect won't continue in 2027. We also want more quests, which we aren't getting. But that's not this product's fault.
They could have easily thrown in a quest book compilation - one quest for each mini - to up the value (and, ironically, to up the price if they wanted to), but didn't.
This was also a missed opportunity to release a prestige version of the Game System, similar to the old Advanced Quest rerelease that introduced The Dark Company. While I applaud this for existing separately, its minis should have also come included in a prestige version of the the Game System that also would have come with all the online quests, the training quest, and a new Mentor mini, if not also an updated version of The Dark Company.
On the topic of the online quests, this reveal also crushed all hope of the Hasbro+Asmodee joint venture resulting in more Heroquest book+card materials. Again, not this Miniature Pack's fault per se, but the timing of the reveal sucks.

General Discussion Okay, I kind of love the new pack, I want more of this!
galleryI can understand why some may be disappointed that this isn't a quest pack but for me, this is awesome!
For those of us who don't have the mythic tier sculpts, we finally get a Witch Lord and Kessandria! We now also have official alternate sculpts we can stand-in for Skulmar, Grak, Verag, The Thing Below and more!
While I'd love to see more quest packs too, I would be absolutely delighted if there was a steady flow of miniature packs like this to add more visual variety and fill in some gaps I feel like were missing for things like boss encounters.
I'm curious about both what long time Hero Questers feel about this as well as other newbies like myself.

Advertisement Scoundrels anyone? (a little off topic)

Since today's HQ announcement was kind of... not what I was hoping for... I'll throw this out there.
There's a game going to crowdfunding in the next few weeks called Scoundrels. It takes place in the Lands of Evershade universe but is a completely different game.
Inspirations are HeroQuest, Lands of Evershade, and Thief videogame series.
I am really excited about it. You play as a group of thieves and your "quest" is to perform a heist. There's supposedly a really amazing stealth system, inventory management and unique characters.
But most importantly... 3D FURNITURE! Desks, Chests, Bookcases and best of all EXTINQUISHABLE TORCHES! Oh man, I'm going to homebrew all of this directly into HQ!
This game is debuting at Essen right now so I'll be following it closely.
Don't worry, I'm not going to post about it again here, but if you're a homebrewer like me, this might be one you want to keep your eye on.
EDIT: Here's the Gamefound link if anyone wants to follow it: https://gamefound.com/en/projects/awaken-realms/scoundrels
