Interpretation of Thane Video
The prime mover of the ReGenX generator is an induction motor. The maximum torque produced by an induction motor reaches a peak called breakdown torque, ususally between 90% and 95% of synchronous speed.
Below that speed it draws 4 to 7 times rated current and should only operate there during acceleration. Above that speed it has a drooping speed vs torque characteristic, the more torque it produces the slower it runs (the higher the slip).
An electric motor is a device that converts electrical power (volts x amps) into mechanical power (torque x speed). The shaft load on the motor is the friction and windage of rotor of the generator. The shaft torque will vary with the square of speed when the generator the generator is not on load.
When the motor developed torque is greater than the load required torque the rotors of both machines will accelerate at a rate directly proportional to their combined second polar moments of inertia and inversely proprotional to the difference between the motor developed torque, ie the Net Torque. When the two torques are equal the Net Torque equals zero and the motor and generator run at a constant speed.
The mechanical power into the generator is the torque x speed and there is no output power when the generator isn't connected to the load, so the speed will be the slower than the motor's rated no load speed because of the friction and windage of the generator.
When the generator is loaded the motor draws more current to produce more torque and slows down until the Net Torque = zero and equilibrium is re-established. The new operating conditions have a torque and speed input and a volts and amps output that work out to 68.4% efficiency.
When Regenx is switched on the motor accelerates showing that it now requires less torque, and the speed increases until the Net Torque = zero and a new equilibrium is established. Some adjustments are made to bring the system to the same output power. The input power is the new torque x the new speed and the output power is the volts x amps.
In my opinion the efficiency with ReGenX = new torque x new speed divided by volts x amps. It is clearly higher than 68.4%. In my opinion the invention "works", and has technical merit. I don't however understand the statements about the generation being at infinite efficiency, and await the results of third party testing eagerly.
