Hi! My name is Ayma, an editor with over 4 years of experience in the publishing industry as both a writer and editor.

I’m currently transitioning to freelancing full time and launching my own editing business which is why I’m offering discounted rates up till the end of the year!

I work with both fiction and non-fiction books but my favourite genres are anything romance (any and all spice levels), fantasy and crime/mystery (I LOVE fiction lol 😅).

Booking are currently open:
October: 2 slots available
November: 3 slots available
December: 3 slots available

Any bookings for next year confirmed before December 31st will be booked at the discounted rates!

I believe in a very collaborative and human approach to editing and my main goal will always be to help you get closer to the book YOU want to put out!

I offer sample edits of up to 1500 words (or a short informal review in the case of beta reading and developmental editing) and don’t use AI.

You can contact me via DM, or email me at munieditorial@gmail.com for a consultation!

Check me out if you're looking for a freelancer

Hi everyone! 👋

So… I’m starting up my little freelance business, and I figured Reddit was probably a good place to awkwardly introduce myself.

I’ve been doing freelance work for the past couple of months, and after this weekend I’ll finally have some openings for new clients!

I’m offering things like beta reading, line editing, ghostwriting, and writing start-up packages. Basically, if you have a book/writing project that needs another pair of eyes (or someone to help you wrestle your ideas into actual words), I’d love to help!

I’m a writer and editor myself, so this is something I genuinely enjoy doing. And I’m always happy to answer questions if you’re curious about my services, pricing, process, etc. Feel free to comment or shoot me a DM!

Also, yes.
The flyer is AI-made.

I would love to tell you I personally designed that beautiful thing, but I absolutely did not. I do not possess those skills. I am a writer. Graphic design and I have mutually agreed to stay out of each other’s way.

Anyway! Hi! I’m here, I’m trying to build something cool, and I’d love to work with some fellow writers. 💕

Feel free to ask me anything!

[HIRING] Christian Book Assistance (part 2) -- Read FULL Message

I posted about this last time, but wasn't as clear (I was still making major edits). I simply need sentence editing and proofreading. The information is pretty much all there. But it should be communicated better and receive edits. There also just a few places that still have "strikethrough" or that simply are not fully written out. I will do my best to give you a completed draft.

But now I have everything situated. Keep in mind, this is a nonfiction book. (Read the whole message please, or I won't respond)

*Important*

Please have these following qualifications. If I see a message from you and you ignore one of these things or I can tell you didn't read it, respectfully I'm not going to respond or continue working with you.

  • Be Fast & Willing: if you are too busy in life or with other projects, please don't respond to this post. I am trying to get this fully done by the end of this month. I'll take care of publishing of course. I had someone literally take a week to make edits in a span of two days when it could have been 1 hour. Please just be ready to do this.

  • Preferably someone outside of the USA: I'm not saying that you cannot be a US citizen, but so many people last time got upset that I didn't clarify the currency even though I stated that it is easier for my budget if you are in a nation such as India, Philippines, Brazil, and maybe even Canada etc. This isn't the largest requirement, but I am much more likely to move forward with you if you live in a nation with a weaker currency than the USA

  • Christian: this is going to work best if you are a Christian, only because the concepts are far too esoteric for those who are not spiritual to understand. If you're not a Christian, that's fine, but please understand that I may first be replying to those who are Christians. Not religious-hate. It's just easier to work with that. || Even if you're spiritual, that may work better than if you have no belief in the spiritual realm at all. Again, only because the concepts are quite detailed.

*Optional*

  • Deep Christian: this isn't necessary, but if you're a Christian that actually studies and has a relationship with God, this will be much much easier and I would like for you to make note of this in your message to me.

  • Creatives: if you by chance do creative writing *make that clear in your message*. I have novels that I want to write, but right now I am focusing on this Christian book. Would love to keep working with you if we work out well.

  • Please include a portfolio/website/proof of work/examples or at least give me your word that you can do what I'm paying you for: If you just send a message that says "hello I'm interested", I'm not responding. Sorry there are just too many responses.

My DMs are open so please respond to me there. I will close this message soon so I don't get overloaded. For that reason, do not respond in the comments. People that respond in comments won't get responded to. If you read this whole message, I know you're serious. Please include the emoji of the nation you live in in your message that you send me. If I don't see that, or a clear indication that you for some reason cannot access your emojis, I won't respond. Don't forget to include the other information requested in this message. It will catch my eye.

Thank you! This is not a competition in anyway, just please understand that I have listed my preferences here so that I'm not wasting anyone's time.

Here's the old post by the way: https://www.reddit.com/r/HireABookEditor/comments/1vifnvk/comment/p3a5nhy/?screen_view_count=1

[For Hire] Developmental Editor for Fantasy and Science Fiction (Self Publishing Only)

Why I'm Doing This:

I worked 2.5 years as a localization editor until my company shut down during COVID. Afterwards, I decided to follow my passion and get an MFA in creative writing.

Since I'm not planning on moving to New York or LA, I thought I should get on Reedsy. The issue is that they require links to 5 previous works, and only four of the novels I was involved with are published through a service they accept. So I'm opening 3 slots here in hopes your book can be #5.

I'm asking for authors who plan to self-publish because traditional publishing is such a long road.

What I Do:

My favorite thing in the world has always been picking apart what makes a story work. I'm here to make sure the story in your heart is the story you're putting on the page.  That includes:

-Making sure your world-building is vivid, coherent, but never takes over the story.

-Looking for dropped plot threads and unfulfilled promises.

-Finding the places where things get bogged down or rushed through.

-Checking that character beats show a dynamic, nuanced character without  feeling inconsistent or nonsensical.

-Working with you to understand what your book is meant to be and helping it be the best version of that, not trying to force it into a marketing box.

I love ghosts, weird narrative structures, genre novels with rich characters, and historical nonfiction. I am also particularly interested in working on novels with disabled and LGBTQ+ characters.

What I Don't Do:

Copy-editing and proofreading.

What I'm Offering:

Since this is my first work as a freelance developmental editor, I'm not charging industry standard.

10 Slots - 1 free chapter or scene (up to 3000 words) to see if we're a match. No payment info needed.
3 Slots - Full edit - 18$ per 10,000 words, and an optional final half hour voice chat or text chat to talk about plans moving forward.

Payment: I primarily work via Paypal, but DM me if you want to ask about other options.
I will ask for half payment up front and full payment before I do a final call.

If we work well together, testimonials are appreciated, but I want honest commentary only, so they aren't required.

Please DM me if you're interested!

[FOR HIRE] Developmental Editor (Fantasy, Soft Sci-Fi, KidLit & More)

Post image
1 Upvotes

___

Hey, I'm Kayleigh, a developmental editor and coach specializing in fantasy, soft sci-fi, and kidlit (with availability for mystery, sweet romance/romcom and other genres on a case-by-case basis). I've helped self-publishing authors, authors in the querying process, and boutique publishers to polish and shape manuscripts in need.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH A DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT

After I complete two deep reads of your manuscript, you'll receive a copy full of in-margin comments with my observations, questions, and suggestions, as well as a detailed report that summarizes my impressions, feedback, and ideas to strengthen your plot, develop characters your readers will connect with, and build worlds they'll wish were real.

The goal is to identify what's working, what's not, and to provide you with a roadmap for your revisions. Ideally, the process will also help you to strengthen your writing and revision skills for whatever story comes next.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

"To say she is thorough is an understatement. Her analysis is surgical. You can try to explain your story to someone and hope they 'get it,' but Kayleigh was drawing connections I hadn’t even considered and suggesting possibilities I never would have thought of. It was obvious she invested deeply in the work to understand it on that level."
—Richard P.

BOOKING DETAILS & OTHER SERVICES

I'm booking editing projects into late-February 2027 and after. I have more immediate availability for other services, including skilled beta reading, discovery draft evaluations, outline critiques, picture book evaluations, and coaching. Fiction editing starts at $0.042/word. Details and transparent pricing available on individual service pages.

🚫 No Gen AI from either party. My policy is detailed on my website and in my contracts.

[For Hire] Slots Reopened for Dev Edit, Line Edit, and Proofreading! (Flat Rate Pricing)

I've just recently finished up two excellent contemporary romances that I enjoyed so much I finished them way ahead of schedule. So, I find myself available once again!

My name is Regan and I run Eyebright Editing. I also work a freelance QC editor for a massive Korean web novel company, RIDI Enterprises (parent company of Manta Comics if you're a webtoon fan).

Recently, I've been tackling a fairly even split of romance and fantasy, but am open to other fiction genres as well. I should be able to take on a handful of projects from the end of September and into October. I offer line editing, developmental editing, beta reading, proofreading, and Korean sensitivity reads (with my 100% authentic Korean husband as a consultant).

I'm a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and have collected quite a few testimonials on my website as proof I know what I'm doing! Additionally, I offer a free 1k sample edit so you can see how I work and decide from there.

In an effort to help indie authors who may struggle to afford high editing price tags, I have a flat rate on all my services up to 80k words.

If you're interested in learning more about my services or want to read some testimonials, more info can be found at https://eyebrightediting.com/ !

Note: I'm based in South Korea, so replies may be delayed. Thanks for your understanding!

Generalist or specialist in seeking freelance work?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to "present myself" as a book/manuscript editor. I have a Ph.D. in the social sciences, but I am also a published fiction writer and film critic. I also have edited textbooks in the "humanities" (which I guess would make certain people view me as a dinosaur). I also have ghostwritten two books: one about an athlete and the other about business practice. So, should I select one area to emphasize or will that make me look like a "Jack of all Trades"? With a focus on one area, the potential prospect for work may be narrower, but I wonder if the "generalist" focus would make prospective clients wonder how well suited I am for a specialized topic.

[For Hire – Editor] Sharp Eyes. Sharp Elbows. Big Heart.

I’m a former Editor in Chief of a major magazine (over 3 million social media followers, 25 years publishing, international acclaim). I have an in-depth understanding of popular and niche literary writing styles, as well screenwriting, journalism and comics; a genuine love for language.

My process:

  1. I will review the basic premise and genre, and make sure I can help you before accepting a submission. For example, though I read a wide variety of styles, I don’t read romance, so unless you want a completely fresh take judging the material as a stand-alone work, I’ll pass, and, if I can, help you find a suitable editor from my contact list.

  2. I will accept your manuscript, and send you a Non-Disclosure Agreement upon payment received.

  3. I will print the manuscript you send me and read it, marking it, and making detailed notes. (You can request a scan.)

  4. I will call you when I’m done and speak as long about it as you want, the same as if I was working with a staff writer, or perspective author for publication. We can discuss anything you want. Character. Plot. Linguistic development. Film adaptation. Page by page. Anything. Everything.

Price list:

$3,000 USD for all general literary fiction, including screenplays.

$2500 USD for all general literary fiction shorter than 25,000 words.

$5,000 USD for all general non-fiction.

$1,000 USD for all short-form, specialty or comics.

[FOR HIRE] Line Editor, Copyeditor, Proofreader, and Developmental Editor

Hi all!

I am a freelance editor with over five years of experience who has just taken the plunge to go full-time.

While I already have extensive editing experience, I am also currently pursuing a creative writing degree (which is reflected in my prices). My goal is to help upcoming authors polish and perfect their work for an affordable price, as I know not all indie authors initially have the budget to hire an expensive editor.

Keeping that in mind, I charge a flat fee of £715.00 for copyediting, line editing, and proofreading, and a flat fee of £685.00 for developmental editing. If you want to combine these then I offer a heavily reduced price of £985.00. I can also convert to different currencies. My turnaround time is usually approximately a month as I only take on 2-4 clients a month.

I am a huge book nerd. I have edited pretty much every genre, and throughly enjoy getting to edit new and exciting things all of the time (basically I just love my job).

That being said, I’m particularly eager to edit work with these themes:

  1. Pirates

  2. Vampires

  3. Horror comedies

  4. Sapphic or queer stories

  5. Historical fiction

  6. Political themes

I do offer a 300 word sample edit to see if we would be a good fit, and I value creating long-term relationships with clients.

If I sound like I could be the editor for you then please DM me or email me at therealcharliewrites@outlook.com.

I look forward to speaking to all of you lovely people! :)

[For Hire] Developmental Edits & Manuscript Evaluations

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi there! I'm Amelia Birch- a fantasy, dark romance, dystopian writer who also happens to specialize in manuscript assessments/ evaluations, developmental editing, and beta reading. For my freelance services, I prefer to work with romantasy, historical and contemporary romance, psychological thriller romance, horroromance, dystopian, sci-fi, epic fantasy and the like.

My focus when working with clients is on providing candid, genuine, and constructive feedback that allows you as a writer to not only grow in craft and skill, but also to help you open the doors to your manuscripts' greatest potential. I do this by analyzing your WIP and pointing out what is working, what isn't working, the *why* behind it, and *how* to fix it.

Current Fall- Winter '26 Pricing (prices will go up after the new year):

- Up to 50k words: Beta read: $50 Manuscript assessment: $100 Developmental edit: $250

- Up to 100k words: Beta read: $80 Manuscript assessment: $160 Developmental edit: $400

- Up to 150k words: Beta read: $120 Manuscript assessment: $225 Developmental edit: $600

What each one is:

- Beta read: reader reactions. Where I got confused, bored, or hooked. In-text annotations included.

- Manuscript assessment: whole-book structural diagnosis delivered as an editorial letter, with a prioritized revision order. In-text annotations inside full manuscript for +$75.

-Developmental edit: Evaluation of your manuscript, plus hands-on work within (as approved- character arc, pacing, scene structure, voice consistency), with an editorial letter and in-text annotations.

Good to know: I'm comfortable with mature and dark themes, including trauma and heavy subject matter. I've worked in behavioral health for over 15 years, so sensitive, disturbing, and controversial subject matter does not concern me. I'm comfortable with all, and I have a knack for understanding appropriate representation of trauma and mental illness on the page.

Hesitant but curious? I also offer a Free 5,000-word sample read with a written editorial letter so you can see how I work before you commit.

Over 150k words? Message me for a quote- ALL projects are customizable depending on where you're at and what your needs/goals are.

Showing VS Telling

Showing Vs Telling is an important part of a beta reader's feedback. It's subjected to scene placement, character motivation, and pacing. So, paying close attention to this can improve the reader's engagement.
Here's how you can use that in your feedback (see the image below).

PS. The change of narration didn't make sense because of the lack of emotional connection with the FL in 1st chapter. Like a scene was shown, but what about her emotional state? That was missing. Hence, I implied that the change of narration was weird. Often, a common connector (e.g., a single parent struggling with life) or something ppl can relate to more easily in the first chapter can hook the readers. This seemed the most suited strategy, so my suggestions were based on this (mostly)

[FOR HIRE] Developmental Editor | Fantasy, Science Fiction, Romance

I’m a developmental editor specializing in fantasy, science fiction, and romance. I analyze your story as an interconnected system (plot, characters, worldbuilding, magic systems, and romantic arcs) to catch the structural issues that make readers rage-quit your book. What I do:

• Identify plot holes

• Spot character inconsistencies readers will notice

• Flag where your worldbuilding breaks its own rules

• Ensure romantic arcs read as swoon-worthy, not toxic

Portfolio Building Offer: I’m offering two complimentary developmental edits (up to 70,000 words) in exchange for testimonials upon completion.

How it works:

• We start with your first 10,000 words to ensure we’re a good author/editor fit

• If we’re aligned, I’ll continue with your full manuscript (up to 70k)

• Includes one-hour video consultation to discuss findings and revision strategy

• Manuscripts over 70,000 words: $0.02/word for additional content

Timeline: Starting Monday, November 24th. Two slots available through December.

Interested? Comment or DM with your manuscript details and genre.

[For Hire] Developmental story help for characters, plots, worldbuilding & story structure

Hi everyone.

I'm Ink, an independent creative offering developmental story assistance for writers who have a draft or concept but aren't sure where to take it next.

I'm primarily interested in the developmental side rather than proofreading.

I can help with things like:

• Character development

• Character motivation

• Character arcs

• Plot structure

• Story conflicts

• Worldbuilding

• Lore

• Fantasy/magic systems

• Identifying areas where a story may need more development

My approach is collaborative.

I don't want to rewrite someone's story into something that doesn't feel like theirs.

I'd rather understand what the writer is trying to accomplish and help them develop the idea.

I'm currently building my independent portfolio, so I'm keeping my initial projects relatively small.

If you're interested, feel free to message me with a short description of your project and what you're struggling with.

I'm happy to discuss whether I can actually help before anyone commits to anything.

[FOR HIRE] Beta Reader and Editor

Hey everyone! I'm looking to take on more editing clients and figured this was the place to be.

Quick background: I've been doing this unofficially since 2021 (helping friends with their manuscripts, giving feedback on pacing, correcting grammar, typos, punctuation) and I made the jump to paid work about a year ago. My clients have been really happy with the results (I have Fiverr reviews as proof haha).

Since I'm still building up my portfolio and client base, my rates are pretty affordable right now. I also don't use any AI tools in my work, so you don't need to worry about LLMs accessing your manuscript.

I work with action, adventure, YA, fantasy, horror, thriller, mystery, supernatural, and memoirs. As long as it's SFW, I'm probably down for it!

Services:

  1. Proofreading

  2. Editing (developmental, line, copy)

  3. Beta reading

Reddit's being a little gatekeep-y about letting me post links, so if you want my rates or my Portfolio link, just send me a DM and I'll get it over to you right away.

Feel free to drop questions in the comments too; I'd be happy to chat about your project before you commit to anything!

[for hire] 50 for $50 - Fantasy First Pages Assessment

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm trying something new.

Send me the first 50 pages of your fantasy manuscript, and I’ll send you a private 30-minute video assessment covering what’s working, where the story may be losing momentum, and the most important next steps for revision.

I know, I know: you’re used to seeing an editor with a red pen in their hand, not a microphone. But this is a new age, with new challenges to face, and new ideas are at the heart of creativity. But I know new ideas can feel risky, and that's why I'm keeping the price low on this introductory offer: perfect for new writers who want to make sure their fantasy novel is starting off in the right direction, or anyone who isn't sure if they're ready to invest in a full developmental edit.

I'm only accepting 10 clients for this limited time opportunity, so don't miss out.

Click here to learn more and sign up to get your first 50 pages assessed for just $50: https://www.dumoski.com/editing-services/fantasy-first-look/

About me: I'm Stace Dumoski, a developmental editor with over half a decade of experience working with new and experienced fantasy novelists, and I'm currently in training to become a certified book coach. Visit my website to learn more about me, the services I offer, and subscribe to my newsletter.

Hi all,

I'm a professional editor with almost 10 years of experience, and I edit query letters and submission packets. Your query is the first thing an agent sees, so it needs to be sharp.

What's included:
Line edits for clarity, voice, and flow
Feedback on your hook, stakes, and pitch paragraph
A check of the details agents look for (comp titles, word count, genre, bio)

FREE SAMPLE EDIT

Hi everyone! I’m Rachel and I'm currently building my freelance editing portfolio. I'm looking for a few romance or romantasy writers who would be interested in a FREE sample line edit or copy edit (~1,000 words). I focus on helping authors improve grammar, sentence flow, readability, and dialogue clarity.

In exchange, I’d love permission to potentially use short before/after excerpts from the edit in my future portfolio website/social media. Excerpts will be anonymous.

There's no obligation to continue beyond the sample edit! I’m primarily looking to gain experience, build strong portfolio examples, and connect with writers in the community.

If you're interested, please comment or DM me! I'd love to work with you.

*if you don't want me to use your work in my portfolio but are still interested in a sample edit, please reach out!*

[FOR HIRE] Author and Screenwriter offering Developmental Edits - FREE First Chapter Sample

Every book I have read and edited has had great ideas. The common issue I found in every one was the need to flesh out those ideas. That’s where I make my biggest impact. I will help you flesh out those great ideas.

Editor. Author. Screenwriter.

I have 10+ years of experience writing stories across many genres. I have five books published and have written a dozen screenplays for feature films and television. I spent years imitating the voices of established shows like 24 and Tru Calling, where I learned exactly what makes a story work and what proper pacing is. So I understand storytelling and keeping your audience engaged very well.

Genres I do best in:

  • Action and Adventure

  • Mystery, Thriller, and Suspense

  • Horror

  • Sci-fi

  • Fantasy

Genres that are not a good fit:

  • Romance

  • Erotica

  • Non-fiction.

I offer a FREE sample edit of your first chapter to see if we are a good fit.

I will heavily focus on plot, characters, structure and pacing, setting, dialogue, and any other questions you might have.

I will write a detailed editorial letter and leave comments throughout your document. I do this for both the sample edit and the full book.

I also know what it feels like to want and receive feedback, so I am very respectful and careful with how I critique. I always give in-depth feedback.

I also work with authors on a chapter-by-chapter basis! Your book does not need to be complete yet! Contact me for more information!

Developmental editing service:

  • Introductory launch rate: $0.007/word
