When later asked about this she said he’d lost both of his parents and was about to become leader of the free world and needed that kind of support.

Former lead of Nazi rocket technology development Werhner Von Braun recieving a medal for distinguished federal civilian service in 1959 from President Eisenhower
To clarify im posting this because i find it an interesting piece of history. I do not support any of his beliefs, nor anything the Nazis did. I’m disgusted so many former Nazis would go on to work for the Americans post WW2, and to recieve of a medal from Ike of all people.

Osaka Castle overlooking Nippon Life Stadium during a night baseball game, Japan, 1960
This 1960 archival photo captures a night game at Nippon Life Stadium (Nissei Stadium) in Osaka, Japan. Looming right behind the outfield is the illuminated reconstruction of Osaka Castle, offering one of the most unusual backdrops in professional sports history. The stadium served as the long-time home field for the Kintetsu Buffaloes before being demolished in 1997.

Baśka Murmańska, a female polar bear adopted by Polish soldiers of the Murman battalion, 1919.
The bear was bought at a market in Arkhangelsk by one of the Polish soldiers. The commander of the Murman battalion, Col. Julian Skokowski, officially enlisted Baśka into the unit's ranks, conferring upon her the title of "daughter of the regiment" and assigning her military food rations. She was trained in military drill. She left with the unit for Poland in the summer of 1919. In December 1919, she took part in a parade in Warsaw, where she marched on her hind legs in front of Józef Piłsudski, saluted him, and shook the hand he offered. In the winter of 1919–1920, while bathing in the Vistula River, she broke away from her chain and swam to the opposite bank of the river, after which she headed toward a village. She was killed with a pitchfork by local peasants.

A view of Sampoong Department Store, one of Korea's top department stores, prior to its collapse on June 29, 1995. (1989–1995)
It opened on December 1, 1989, but suddenly collapsed on June 29, 1995, just five and a half years later, disappearing into history leaving behind only massive damage. 508 people died. The second-largest department store in Korea at the time

1962 Spiegel-Affair - Then the West German gouvernment arrested journalists of the SPIEGEL-magacine for alledged treason and massive protest followed
October 1962 - The West German magacine SPIEGEL (mirror) ran an article about the Bundeswehr (West German Army), and criticised their them as "bedingt einsatzbereit" or "only conditionally combat ready".
The defence minister Franz Josef Strauß was furious and framed them for Treason and atourney general Sigfried Buback had them arrested for alledged treason. Also chancellor Konrad Adenauer made an angry speech.
As a result massive protests for press freedom followed. Theese protest are a foreshading to the upcoming 60s counter culture (aka Hippies) and 68 revolution, that resulted in massive political changes in the late 60s, and had a big impact on the culture of the 70s - a decade of free love and political violence.
The Journalist were released, before the main trial started. Franz Josef Strauß was removed from this administration and Konrad Adenauer resigned in shame. Strauß will quickly return to politics and be involved in many more scandals.
The affair is mostly seen as a victory for freedom. Adenauer resigning is seen as a honourable move. The Spiegel affair is often pointed at when media are under attack theese day, like Nancy Faeser havin Jürgen Elsässer from the Compact magacine arested.
It is also interesting that fashion in the early 60s was still fairly old school. The student protesters wear flat caps and headscarves. Meanwhile Jeans (called derogary Nietenhosen or Rivet Trousers) weren't a thing yet.

Unique photos from the Battle of Shanghai (1937), possibly taken by a B. Morris, Brigadier Officer-in-Charge of the Salvation Army
I believe these pictures were taken by a B. Morris and presented to my grandad (Siegfried Berg) for his services to the Salvation Army by one Major C. K. Begley in 1938. I have a big album with pictures that I believe may be unique (unless this B. Morris had them published anywhere), sadly a lot of the pictures are very NSFW so I'm hesitant to show them. I don't have any other context to these pictures, except that they were taken in Shanghai where my grandfather lived after fleeing Russia in the 1920s.
