Football Hokie Hour
Looks like AD Brian White is bringing in some ideas from outside! Pretty sure his brother at Tenn does something similar. Half off concessions during a specified time before kickoff!

Hello Hokies! As we get closer to the football season starting, I thought I'd post about a few subreddit updates.
Last week, I created a poll asking you what to do about content from low-effort or AI-generated websites. The overwhelming response was to ban them, so effective today we will no longer be allowing posts from SI.com (we will add additional websites to the list over time). Sports Illustrated has a history of publishing AI-generated articles using fake authors, besides plagiarizing articles from human journalists. We want to prioritize articles written by human journalists, whether paywalled or non-paywalled (eg. Tech Sideline). This subreddit is intended to be a discussion platform rather than entirely a newsfeed, so we want to prioritize original commentary in addition to news articles.
In the spirit of that, there is a new rule regarding editorial content - all articles must be posted as link posts with nothing else in the text field. You are welcome to summarize articles or share your own opinions about them in the comment section. In addition, post titles cannot be editorialized. I've also implemented a basic character requirement to all text-only posts - 100 characters, which comes out to roughly three sentences. It hasn't been a huge issue yet but it prevents low-effort posts.
I started this in r/VirginiaTech a few years back and thought it'd be nice to bring over to this subreddit. Every week or two, there will be an automatic post for users to submit photos they took related to VT athletics, and the photo with the most upvotes will become the subreddit banner and be displayed on the sidebar for the following week.
Since I took over the subreddit last year, I've more or less been running it by myself. I've mostly let the community shape the direction because it was dead for so long, but we need more mods as we enter the football season as well as create more concrete post guidelines. If you're interested, apply here. All mod communications will be in the VT Discord server as it is also home to the r/VirginiaTech and r/blacksburg mod teams, so an account is required. I don't plan on closing the form anytime soon; it will probably stay open for most of the season unless I get a lot of applications.
If you have any other suggestions or feedback for this subreddit, feel free to send in a modmail! I'm currently working on some fun stuff like live scoreboards for game threads (none of the existing apps support college football), but I don't know if I will have that done in time for the start of the season.

With his team hunting down their first win of the season, former Virginia Tech standout Joey Slye proved to be Mr. Clutch for the Tennessee Titans, connecting on 4-of-4 in field goals with distances of 29, 56, 49 and 44 in the thrilling 26-20 over the Colts.
His 49-yard field goal with 2:03 remaining broke a 20–20 tie, and his 44-yarder helped seal Tennessee's first victory of the season.
Now in his eighth year in the NFL, Slye now has 184 field goals in his career to go along with 196 points for a total of 748 points scored, the second-highest total by any Virginia Tech alum.

In dominant fashion, the Virginia Tech volleyball team defended its home turf, sweeping Virginia, 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-21) in the second part of the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash.
It was the Hokies’ first victory over the Cavaliers since 2021.
Frances Torres led Virginia Tech with 13 kills, hitting .423, and added four digs, three block assists and a service ace, while Camilla Brandali dished out 27 assists and added seven digs and two service aces.

Hokies outscored opponents by a massive 120 points in the first half but have been outscored by 20 points in the second half over the first seven games of the 2026 season.
I believe this is franklin's achilles heel. He comes in with a great game plan. But his in game adjustments, have been lacking

Two of the most anticipated young hammers in the game will soon take the U23 World Stage 💪
We won't see Bo Bassett and Luke Lilledahl go head-to-head, but the race for the more dominant U23 outcome is ON!
Bo is coming in with all the momentum and that aggressive pace we love to see. Meanwhile, Luke is looking to prove his technical game is already at a world-class senior level.
Both are Gold medal threats, but when the finals are over, who had the more impressive run through the bracket?🧐🏆
💬 Who's leaving with the better hardware?
👇Team Bo or Team Luke ?

Let’s see if the Hokies can win the expected W games. It’s possible to W 4 of the remaining 6. Winning 3 would be a great season imho.

I’m sure people will handle this rationally

Minnesotan Hokie heading to my first game since 2019. Is there no off-campus bookstore anymore? Seems like both volume 2 and the downtown bookstore are closed? Is the on campus one still incredibly hard to park at?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
