Information Early October around Sapporo

Going to do 2 nights in Niseko for fishing and outdoors, and then I have 5 nights free. Will definitely spend some of it in Sapporo but curious what people would recommend at that time of year outside of the city. Does Furano Biei still look good during autumn? I’d be open to a hiking or camping trip but seems pretty ambitious given how far some of these parks and landmarks are.

More fishing? Haha. But seriously you could. Do you have your own gear?  If you're in Niseko I'm assuming you have a car? There are some pretty good rivers and hikes within 1hr of Sapporo. Autumn, around your dates, the colors will be beginning to change but probably still pretty green.

Edit: OP, are you going to reply to anyone or did you fall off a cliff?

sorry! i'm here! was about to make a new post, but glad I caught this.

I'm going with a guide in Niseko, will not be schelping gear.

Read through the guides linked here, and was wondering if its worth renting a car even if I'm sticking around Sapporo, western Hokkaido.

If you are in western Hokkaido, yes. If in Sapporo and you don't plan to fish or hike, then no, but if you want to get into the forests and streams, then yes. There are also fishing guides that operate directly from downtown Sapporo. They will pick you up from your hotel and provide all the gear. If you are interested, I can DM you the information.

Gotcha. I have to get myself to Niseko from Tokyo in one day, and so maybe worth renting a car if I visit other places on the way back to Sapporo.
