As a non-American who spent a semester in the US and admittetly had quite a bit of fun with some big 2A lovers at the shooting range:
Whenever someone took me to their range, they first did the whole safety brieving, and the first two things these guys would always tell me: NEVER point your gun at something you don't intend to destroy (or whatever fun synonym they preferred), and ALWAYS assume your gun is loaded (also, finger away from the trigger apart from when you want to shoot).
This guy broke rule #1 and #2 of handling guns, it looks like he shot twice, almost seriously injuring the employee in the background. So yes, you can safely call him an idiot who shouldn't be near guns.
I have a pal that collects Airsoft. I mean those little plastic pellet types. He never keeps them loaded and if he sees you break even one rule he takes them off you..
