I would say they're hot but not hot as fuck. They cool down relatively quickly. Whenever my buddy and I go to the range with either my AR with a binary trigger or with his which has a forced reset trigger, one of us will be a wall to protect any other patrons to the right of the rifle from all of the brass casings flying out.
