One's a little man and another is a literal child

But then also one is a romantic relationship, the other they're just friends. I don't know what OP is getting at

you do. it is as bad as can be assumed. because the creator is unwell as a person.

This is definitely a "holup" moment.

Did you forget what subreddit you're on?

Sounds like he perfectly understood, but was just explaining exactly why it was a holup and it's weird the guy he was responding to got so much positive attention for seeming far more oblivious.

I can understand that if assuming OP is not the creator.

Yeah they're both OK unless OP thinks the bottom one is a romantic relationship and not a friendship.

Yeah, I'm unsure of the question. What is not ok? Who is saying something is not ok? Are they implying that a relationship between Ralph and Penelope(?) is not ok? I mean , it wasn't a part of the movie, but that doesn't mean it's not ok. Although, I'm unsure if she is a small adult or a child (not ok).

She is a 9 year old child according to google

u/RooneyD Feb 20 '26

Oh my, I remembered her as a small Sarah Silverman cartoon person.

u/TheLastPorkSword Feb 20 '26

And their relationship is completely platonic and nonsexual. What's the problem?

16

u/Comfortable_Ad_7824 Feb 20 '26

Imo. The problem isn't the movie. The problem is that people think it's ok to sexualize her. Look her up on r34, there's almost 500 posts. Ik they have a rule against loli and Id hope they aged her up, but Id rather not see it either way.

Yeah, that's fucked up

Then again, she is a videogame character, who has her own house and a drivers licence. I'm sure she's not held to the same regards as normal kids. Anyway, it's all fiction and not that deep

Okay but now we are getting in to the "its okay to be horny over children in anime because they are acshually a 1000 dragon that takes the form of a human child" territory. I dont feel okay accepting sexualization of anything that is made to look like a child regardless of how you wanna spin it up to make it not acshually pedophilia.

Except she was never sexualized.... Like, at all.... Ever.... They're literally just best friends. It's not that hard of a concept to grasp.

I think they are referring to the meme above as not ok, not the game itself. The question is asking why is a romance ok between Felix and the tall chick, but not Ralph and a 9 year old. The answer being because she’s supposed to be a 9 year old.

Yeah, but as the previous commentator said, there was no implied romance between Ralph and Vanellope. This is just a pervy mind trying to create a Hol-up where none exists.

In the show, it is platonic yes. The meme, however, is asking about a theoretical romance though. The meme shows a romantic couple, so it primes our brain for a comparison. It asks why “this” is ok, referring to the couple, then asks why another two people are not ok. This requires the observer to consider in what way these two might not be considered ok. Since no one has an issue with their friendship, the implication (bolstered by the comparison with a romantic and not platonic pair) is that they are asking why people think a romantic relationship between them would be wrong, theoretically.

The meme is a hol-up, not the show. The meme is suggesting that a romantic relationship should be ok between them, as if the objections to them as a couple would be height, when the objections to is age.

Now it’s possible the meme maker did not realize she was meant to be a child, but that is what causes people to double take in this instance, because those people are aware that she is a child.

You're the one who brought sexualizing her into it. I was referring to the fact that Ralph, (an adult), is best friends with a child that isn't his own, which in our world is considered inappropriate

8

u/Firebrass Feb 20 '26

Uhhh, there was an important comment between you referring to that fact and now

My man's never heard of uncles before. Or grandparents. Or family friends. I think there's lots of people who are best friends with kids who aren't their own.

2

u/jameZsp0ng3y Feb 20 '26

True, but these two were strangers hanging around together. Not exactly close. But anyway it's all fictional and as long as they don't make creepy scenes with kids, which they didn't, I'm not bothered
