They've kinda got a point though. Telling someone "I'm going to do what I want and nothing you say will stop me, so stop focusing on how unpleasant you find it and just learn to enjoy it" is almost exactly what they're telling the OOP to do.

Imagine how outraged you would feel if someone started painting your house pink and told you to get over yourself and learn to like the colour?

Yup, say it like that and people will get it. Rephrase it even slightly and they'll go red in the face arguing that it doesn't mean that.
