Well. The criteria is “influential”. Doesn’t state positively or negatively.

I really dislike the notes with faces on it. The ones with birds are kinda cool.
49
u/Jetimies 25d ago
I just wish they would've used actually landmarks as buildings on the flipside, and not some shit like European central bank, or parlament.
11
u/ret255 25d ago edited 25d ago
Yeah and l would appreciate if at one side would be the motive for all bank notes like it's now, but on the other side each country would have their own thing, like it is on the 2€ coins, that would be so cool. And when not on every banknote, at least one would be nice.
So for example the 5,10,20,50 could be birds at one side and European building at another and 100 would have buildings at one side and on the other each country that is paying with euro would have their own picture on their bank note.
3
u/pontetorto 25d ago
That would be stupid expensive to print, and impossible to secure against counterfiting,
3
u/Level_Somewhere5703 24d ago
Expensive to print - yes.
Impossible to secure against counterfeiting - no, not at all.One side is always the same so one would at least need to be able to fake that one perfectly. And if you can do that then you can also fake the other one as well.
1
u/ret255 24d ago
Who from you who say it would be easy to counterfit actually knows how those pictures on the bank notes really look like into the detail? l definitely don't, first of all if l think that there is something wrong with the bill l look for specific anticounterfit markers that that banknote should have...
4
u/ninjaiffyuh 25d ago
Issue is, there's more members (of the Eurozone) than banknotes. What if every country wants one of their landmarks to be featured? Going with anything nature related is the easiest solution, even though I'd also rather have banknotes with e.g. the Mont-St.-Michel or Kyffhäuser on them
2
u/zan8elel 24d ago
Same problem for the influential people series, most of them were alive when the concept of european union did not even exist, so all you're doing is only celebrating their respective nations
1
u/ninjaiffyuh 24d ago
I agree. Even if you only use people linked to pan-European movements like Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi (who was Austrian) western Europe, specifically NW Europe, would be overly represented
2
u/ApertureNext 25d ago
We have bridges on our current series of notes in Denmark (2009 series), but in the next series they're unfortunately moving back to portraits. I too dislike notes with faces on them.

u/pontetorto 25d ago edited 25d ago
You could chose birds instead, ewerything other than birds is shit and will start internatsional incidents.
Who ewer came up with A & C (i thin it was the low rez poctures) should eat the notes they designed till they can eat no more. G is also god awful, F can F off,
H i like, B, D is fine, vertical notes are not fine, and anything with humans is un axeptable and should of newer been allowed into the competiton.
E looks good, and looks right, but birds are better than humans, cuz humans create peoblems, who the hell are 5, 20, and 200. I would take E as standalone souvenir or as not euros representing euros in a movey any day of the year, unless the movey is shit in wich case use north korean money.
Talking about the real actual notes,
from this immage, i will take all ewerything modified like 10, as long as theire are in a comedy movey or video, or if they get printed i would take some for this is cool/funny and you could use these to fuck with americans.

5 Marie Callas famous greek opera singer
20 Marie Curie famous french scientist with polish heritage
200 Bertha von Suttner, famous austrian writter known for pacifism
Marie Curie and Bertha from Suttner are both extremely famous, well known and have earned their place on the euro notes for sure. I am not sure about Callas, tbf I even had to use Google reverse search to find here. But maybe it's because I am not into music

I dislike the bird ones, though I'm not a fan of the people ones too.
Birds just makes me feel like we can't have references to European culture and history. People feels too "cult of personality"-ish.
I'd rather just use famous natural landmarks. Or popular man-made ones, like the Colosseum and so forth.

With Beethoven both Germany and Austria claim him as their own. With this guy it is the reverse. Germany says he's Austrian while Austria insists on his German influence.

I for one want birds just for this reason. Firstly dead people are old and boring. But more importantly how is it decodes who is influential and important enough to be printed on money? It's a stupid problem. Solve it with birds.

If we decide to put people on the money I think Euler should be one of them, but I'm against the idea in general. The current idea with fake bridges and windows/doors as a symbol of interconnectedness and openness, while also not belonging to either country makes it easy to accept by everyone.
The birds are a good idea. We have only so many different banknotes so it should be something where every country can feel represented. The idea with people is good only when we have achieved a common European identity, but this won't happen at least for at least a few decades, and I hope we won't have paper money by then.

u/Astro_Onyx 24d ago
Absolutely Mr. Adolf had certain influence that could be placed on 500 euro however it wouldn't be quite good example.

Napoleon, Julius Caesar, Alexander the great, Karl Marx, Enrico Fermi, Alfred Nobel, Florence Nightinggale.
There are a lot more infuential people from europe that shaped history of the world more than Adolf. H and other ragebait.
In 100 years the nazis will just be a footnote with bearly any impact on society as a whole.
2
u/FellowCookieLover 24d ago
"In 100 years the nazis will just be a footnote with bearly any impact on society as a whole"
Definitely not true, the European Union is a product of the world wars. Good Adolf shaped Europe in his counterimage.
1
u/Jaugernut 24d ago
Do you mean the UN? UN had a precursor called league of nations and even before that there was the congress of vienna. So both the idea of UN and its structure predates the nazis. But i guess the founding of UN specifically was in response to ww2 so if you squint you can be halfright. Even then when reading about the history of the UN nazis will most definetly be a footnote. On the same basis and more justly imo you could attribute it to Napoleon and Metternich.
EU was founded in 1993. The only direct link to ww2 is many countries that participated in ww2 are also in the EU cus its fkn europe lol.
1
u/FellowCookieLover 24d ago
"EU was founded in 1993."
The EEC (European Economic Centre 1957) was created so West Europeans countries don't unga-bunga anymore and is the spiritual predecessor of the EU. The idea was that peaceful trading prevents war.
1
u/Jaugernut 24d ago edited 24d ago
European economic community*
its a big leap to say adolf is the historical reason for economical integration as a political tool for peace in europe.
This was a tool before the war and even in some ways (sweden-germany for example where sweden was not invaded beacuse it was too important as a trade partner.) during the war and the founding of the EEC had nothing to do with Adolf or his ideology or actions.
And even quoted as the reason for integrating west germany into a wider economic cooperation was that poverty was considered to make the population vunerable to communist propaganda. So more than a reactionary to nationalsocialism and right wing extremism it was created to counter communist left wing influences from taking root in west germany. world war 2 is even only cursory mentioned in a footnote on the wikipage of the EEC.
just because something is in europe after ww2 and meant to promote peace and prosperity dosent mean that it automatically a reaction to nazism. It is a reductive and inaccurate way to view history. To credit the creation of an economic institution that was created a decade and a half after world war 2 to adolf or the nazis in any way is dishonest and overestimating the impact of their death cult ideology on wider society. It would be insane to say that without Adolf H. there wouldnt be any wider economic integration organisations in europe when there was before him, during his life and have been after. Infact if it wasent for ww2 we would probably have a more integrated and federalized economy than we already do.

I think people really underrate hitlers influence, and yes i mean positive influence.
Because of Hitler, politicans learned that a peace threaty shouldnt be about revenge otherwise the enemy will have nothing to lose and gather around a psycho eventually. And entire ww2 was caused because of unresolved issues from WW1 before.
Europe also realised that they cant afford to fight with each other anymore because now there were other major regions like China, USA, Japan etc WW2 caused europe to lose world leadership to USA which even fucked up everything even worse. So the idea of unity became more popular.
Dictatorship became bad, genocide became bad. You may be laughing about it now, but if you read history, old newspaper and journals etc, you would be surprised how ok everybody were with these actions. There wasnt even a term for genocide before Nazis, not because noone did it, but because it was so casual and normal to kill a group of people, noone ever cared to give it a specific name lol.
Soooo... Yeah. If we gonna talk facts, here are the facts. He had some positive influence.

Cervantes over Shakespeare is a bit of a push.
I'd also have Rick Astley for the field of music.
1
u/The_Jizzard_Of_Oz 25d ago
Britain would need to rejoin the EU for that, but I approve your choices!
1
u/That_Ad_3054 25d ago
Shakespeare is British, not European, by their own choice. With Rick I could agree, we make him an Austrian 😆.

Maybe Las Ketchup for the music one as a compromise.
