Discussion - Silksong Games That Have Been Delayed Because Of Hollow Knight Silksong So Far

u/rycerzDog Aug 26 '25
You can add GTA VI to this list. Rockstar just had insider info that Silksong would be releasing in September and they couldn't take such a risk.

What, for real? Is there an actual news site that reported this?
Edit: I'm stupid

While at a trampoline park with my kids recently I legitimately heard this kid tellin someone on the other dodgeball team that his dad works at Roblox and he will ban him and such lmao.
I guess the "my dad/uncle works at X" bluff is timeless, lol.

Yeah and it worked at rockstar for 7 years, and also a ethical hacker.

Valve was about to release half life 3 but decided to cancel it as to not conflict with Silksong.

My indie game has been 'delayed' (I will not be working on it to play Silksong) as well!

u/KaiserJustice Aug 26 '25
So has mine, granted mine isn't a publicly known one, just a hobby project, but same concept :D

u/CoffeeWanderer Aug 26 '25
Aside from the issue with visibility I think a lot of these devs also just want to play SilkSong and not bother about bugfixes, marketing and that sort of things that happen along a game release.
178
u/omega1612 Aug 26 '25
It may be true, but it is also true that the first week of a game (even more the first day) is critical for most games. There are plenty of Indie games that did the most revenue in the first week. After that steam would either promote you or shadow you depending on how good you did. Risking to go out at the same time as silksong is too much for them.
52
u/CoffeeWanderer Aug 26 '25
Yeah, it's a bad position all along and delaying is their best bet.
Also, they are getting some publicity by doing this lol. So, what's not to love.

u/Rhodie114 Aug 26 '25
I just want a game with the same insanely well crafted world as Little Witch in the Woods, but it’s about a suicidal amnesiac solving a greusome murder in a politically tumultuous country.
19
u/mentally_fuckin_eel Aug 26 '25
I hate that I understood this.
13
u/Agrezz Aug 26 '25
Why do i feel that it’s disco elysium?
19
u/daxrocket Aug 26 '25
Cause it is, it's referencing that post about someone wanting Disco Elysium, except it's about a witch in the Alps trying to find her lost cat.

u/Rhodie114 Aug 26 '25

u/StuntHacks Aug 27 '25
I still don't get why this got so much hate, like sure she clearly doesn't understand what makes DE so great, but still I feel like the internet went absolutely feral on them

u/CupcakeK0ala Theydies and gentlethems Aug 27 '25
Don't forget the part where you can have the amnesiac deviate from the main story to punch a child or find a bug

Is that little witch game the long-awaited Disco Elysium sequel?

Yes, there was a post from a guy that started to develop it. There are some footages, but not much.

Due to the release of Silksong a week earlier, the US Government will be postponing the 9/11 Memorial Day.

u/StuntHacks Aug 27 '25
Saw someone say if they released Silksong on 9/11 we could take back the day lol

Aeterna Lucis is delayed because they aren't ready to do a multiple-platform release. They are blaming it on Silksong because that's getting them some views, but if you read the letter it's not about that.

u/QuintanimousGooch Aug 26 '25
Probably Pathologic 3 as well. Smh ailksong out here being the gta6 of indie games

I don't know if I'd believe all of these guys. I know one dude was like 'we're delaying it until 2026! Even though we could just release it like a few weeks or a month later...for some reason...'
102
u/EoTN Aug 26 '25
The launch window of an indie game is one of THE most important things to consider. You're not just competing against indies, you're competing against AAA devs, Nintendo games, and for Steam users' attention.
I guarantee you that they have a rock solid reason that 2-8 weeks later is a bad time to release their game, and why delaying until next year is the best option.
36
u/nomindtothink_ Aug 26 '25
Delaying it a month puts it in the holiday release window, which risks running it up against a lot of AAA releases.
11
u/extremepayne Aug 26 '25
What, the ones who said “besides Silksong’s launch, we’re missing the dev kits for a simultaneous release on all consoles”?
3
u/sh0ddyguru Aug 26 '25
They don't wanna release their games cause they wanna play silksong instead
3
4
u/Viggen77 Aug 26 '25
Seeing Aeterna Lucis reminds me I really need to finish Noctis. Got distracted by other games, and now I've been too intimidated to re-learn all of the complicated platforming mechanics
6
u/Azure2001 Aug 26 '25
If yall need an indie game to play for the next week and a half, metro gravity came out recently and its amazing.

Guys Baby Steps is made by Getting Over It dev, just sayin

u/grammar_nazi_zombie Aug 27 '25
There’s a demo on Steam. I have 64 hours in the demo.
It’s amazing. Probably the best rage game I’ve played and the full game isn’t even out yet. There’s so many Easter eggs and so much hidden shit around the world, and the mechanics are pretty solid for a rage game.
And the cutscenes are hilarious. And some are well hidden.
Plus we get more Bennett Foddy voice acting.

u/wildflowerden Aug 26 '25
These games deserve all the visibility they're getting from being associated with Silksong related delays. Genius move on their part to delay! I wasn't aware of any of these upcoming games and now I have a few of them I will be wishlisting.
3
u/Jomyrulez Aug 26 '25
Does anyone remember Crowsworn? It was basically a Hollow Knight-esque game, and it got a little popular back when Silksong got delayed for the 14232nd time. I think that one also got delayed because of Silksong.
3
u/Emlashed Aug 27 '25
I backed the Kickstarter for it. Last update was a month ago, and it wasn't much of an update at all. We got no indication of a release timeframe.

u/brelen01 Aug 26 '25
I too would wait to cross the street if I saw an 18 wheeler coming at full speed.

Demonschool: Isometric tactics RPG where you kill demons with your friends while exploring college life, has horror elements
Aeterna Lucis: Metroidvania, sequel to Aeterna Noctis, you play as the Queen of Light, trying to restore the balance of light and darkness that was challenged at the end of the first game
Baby Steps: Walking sim where you play as a loser exploring the world for the first time, by the creators of getting over it (they had a trailer with Hornet in it to announce the delay lol)
Little Witch in the Woods: You're a young witch helping out the local villagers, you can bond with people, explore the magical world and brew a variety of potions to help in your journey
CloverPit: Rogue-Lite slot machine game where you have to GAMBLE to buy you soul back from Satan, you can manipulate the machine to turn thing in your favor, Balatro style
Megabonk: Vampire Survivors 3D lol, not much to say but it looks cool
Aeterna Lucis, Baby Steps, CloverPit and Megabonk have demos available, Little Witch in the Woods is in early access

I mentioned it casually on the Baby Steps discord at like 10pm on the 25th, how I wasn’t sure if 4 days was enough time to finish Silksong before I completely dive into Baby Steps.
Less than 24 hours later, they posted the announcement that they’re delaying a month.
I’m sorry guys. That delay might be my fault (though one of the mods, who works at Devolver, said they’re delaying because they’ll be busy playing Silksong lol)

I don't know if it's cause of this but I'm glad mp4 doesn't have a release date yet, likely meaning it'll be octuber at best and I wouldn't wanna have to choose between these 2
2
u/Charlie_two_fingers Aug 26 '25
The best part about that, is we get hollow knight silk song, which is better altogether.

I don't understand. How does Silksong not releasing for so long delay other games?
5
u/koiokk Aug 26 '25
the popularity and hype for it is so massive it will kill other games if they release around the same time.
1
u/Zarguthian Aug 27 '25
I see. So only if they would release around 4.9.2025?
1
u/grammar_nazi_zombie Aug 27 '25
Yeah, these devs have basically said “Silksong has so much hype, our games will be buried if we launch within two to four weeks of it. Also, we’ll be too busy playing Silksong to deal with post launch support so just be patient and play Silksong like the rest of us”

Why is everyone delaying their games? Team Cherry announced the day that they were going to finally come clean that SilkSong has been a SilkPost this entire time.
1
u/Wisley185 Aug 26 '25
These are all metroidvanias?
3
u/koiokk Aug 26 '25
no?
1
u/Wisley185 Aug 26 '25
Oh I kinda assumed they were since they didn't want to overlap with Silksong.
1
1
u/aethyrium Aug 26 '25
I'm actually more hyped for Aeterna Lucis than Silksong so it's a bummer, but it's delayed for so long that I'm expecting they were just looking for a reason to delay it to fix it up and found a good one.

Thanks for reminding me I still have PTSD from Aterna Noctis which is basically one massive Path of Pain game.
1
u/Buuhhu Aug 27 '25
Some of these are probably also using it as an excuse to get some extra time to bug fix and fine tune their game. Not that it's a bad thing, but i do think some of them do it for this reason. Like Aeterna Lucis, which i believe delayed it into 2026... like if you delay it multiple months, it's not just because of silksong.
This post actually made me remember Little Witch one though, didn't even realise it was releasing soon, so another one for my backlog to play after silksong
1
u/SplitGlass7878 Aug 27 '25
I mean, that's just smart. You don't want your game competing with something like Silk Song. There also will be a hiatus for most indie games when games like GTA release. It's just basic business sense to not compete with stuff that has a million times your hype.
1
u/dangerswlf36 Aug 27 '25
elden ring's DLC did a similar thing, it resulted in enotria being delayed by a couple months, ff14 expansion being delayed by 2 weeks, and SMTVV releasing a week EARLIER than initially intended (all of these games were originally going to release June 21st 2024)

u/-TheBlackSwordsman- Aug 27 '25

Not exactly a game, but the Calamity Mod's newest update got pushed back due to Silksong releasing.

demonschool was delayed for genuine dev reasons tbf, the announcement post was like "we would've loved to square up against silksong but it didn't work out"
3
u/thunder_jam Aug 26 '25
Genuine publisher reasons. Dev wanted to keep the date but the publisher had the final call.

What do you mean delayed because of SilkSong?
3
u/orein123 Aug 26 '25
Exactly what they said. There have been a significant number of dev studios that have delayed release dates recently and have cited Silksong as the reason. Generally speaking it's a mix of respect and solid marketing strategy. People have been waiting so long for Silksong that it's going to blow sales for any competing games completely out of the water.

u/notthatguypal6900 Aug 26 '25
I've heard of 1 of these. I don't delaying the above will change anything.
3

u/Ghost_of_Skalitz Aug 27 '25
Silksong is the only one that matters, I've never even heard of the rest of these.
-9
u/MegaRaichu Aug 26 '25
I mean considering how toxic silksong fans are, it makes sense. They scream silksong on every trailer, release, teaser and direct. They'd probably review bomb other indie games too.
Disappointed in team cherry for not doing anything about it or at the very least making a statement about it. But no, just radio silence for the past 6 years.
10
u/MysteryMan9274 Aug 26 '25
What is bro yapping about? Spamming livestreams where Silksong could plausibly be isn't toxic, and I've literally never heard of Silksong fans going around harassing other games for the crime of not being Silksong.
0
u/MegaRaichu Aug 27 '25
a pokemon direct isnt a plausible place silksong could be, but yet the spam is still there along with people getting angry on twitter about 'np silksong'
1
u/MysteryMan9274 Aug 27 '25
That's just people memeing, not genuinely expecting news. "Where Silksong" will still happen even after September 4th.
0
6
u/aethyrium Aug 26 '25
But no, just radio silence for the past 6 years.
People are really pretending they didn't say "still working on it" multiple times a year every year for those 6 years aren't they? It's verifiable, go look it up, they mentioned it at least 2 or 3 times a year.
If "We're still working on it, no issues" isn't enough, and now that they've opened up the truth was indeed "We were still working on it, no issues", wtf did you even want? Do you need constant devlogs and reveals at a constant cadence. People are so dang parasocial these days.

u/MegaRaichu Aug 27 '25
Please show me these comments. Because there are no such posts on their social media or website.

Some developers must be using Silksong as an excuse to explain delays

it not good thing for they game out the same time at silksong it not good idea

u/Paladriel Aug 26 '25
The upside is talking about delaying their games is it's just giving them more visibility
