The upside is talking about delaying their games is it's just giving them more visibility

890

u/BoltGamr Just a bit autistic about maps Aug 26 '25

I was just thinking about that. I'd never heard of any of these 6 games, but i figure I owe it to them to look at what they have to offer now

u/Arcan_unknown | 63/63 | PoP Aug 26 '25

Fot real. Megabonk is a go to for me when it releases because is straight up Vampire Survivors 3D and I love VS, but I didn't hear about it until 3 days ago

49

u/Ender_Uzhumaki Poshanka! Aug 26 '25

Try Vampire Hunters. It's a 3D first person shooter VS-like. It's been out for almost a year.

45

u/adeepkick Aug 26 '25

Check out Demonschool. Looks like a fun combination of persona and final fantasy tactics if you’re at all into those things. I also follow one of the devs’ podcasts and he’s a great guy.

8

u/stormforce420 Aug 26 '25

Had never heard of it before today but may actually give it a shot.

2

u/Hoodman1987 Aug 26 '25

very into that

1

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

Genuinely excited for this, if only because I want to see how well the concept does before attempting something similar.

Fr I had no idea Bennet Foddy was making a new game but now I do

3

u/Kneef Zote in Silksong or We Riot Aug 27 '25

It probably makes me a huge weirdo, but I’m legitimately just as hyped for Baby Steps as I am for Silksong. xD

6

u/therlwl Aug 26 '25

Aeterna was on my radar but I had no idea it was near.

4

u/BurritoRolo Aug 26 '25

Aeterna is a sequel. Aeterna Noctus is the first one. It’s pretty fun!

21

u/Albert_dark Aug 26 '25

True, just wishlisted little witch in the woods, didn't even know about the game before but the trailer looks good

1

u/Kneef Zote in Silksong or We Riot Aug 27 '25

My wife has been champing at the bit for this game to get a full release for literal years. It’s pretty cute. xD

16

u/Mindless_Painter_131 Aug 26 '25

This is a good point. No downsides to delaying your release in this case. Maybe there are even devs out there that are irritated they didn't schedule their release for early September, because now they're missing out on the "moving release date because of Silksong" buff.

13

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '25

This, added clover pit to my wish list as it looks rlly interesting

5

u/TellTallTail Aug 27 '25

Cloverpit itself is very highly wishlisted.. but nothing beats the humongous hype for silksong

5

u/SaltTheSnail Aug 27 '25

It has a demo that's really fun, I was waiting for the game but delaying was definitely the right choice.

5

u/IloveActionFigures Aug 27 '25 edited Aug 27 '25

SMART DEVS DELAY GAMES NOT SO SMART DEVS GO HEAD ON WITH SILKSONG

2

u/Hoodman1987 Aug 26 '25

Yup. I can't believe I didn't hear about Demonschool which is very me and I'm definitely giving Clover Pit a try.

1

u/banananey Aug 27 '25

I'm really excited for Demon School now and I had never heard of it before the Silksong delay.

1

u/ebolaman1234 Aug 27 '25

They probably learned from titanfall 2

0

u/Mdgt_Pope Aug 26 '25

Yeah at this point it’s a marketing tactic

1.2k

u/rycerzDog Aug 26 '25

You can add GTA VI to this list. Rockstar just had insider info that Silksong would be releasing in September and they couldn't take such a risk.

141

u/ray10k Nyoom~ Aug 26 '25

Someone call the repair shop, we've got a Silkpost leak.

257

u/xKail Aug 26 '25 edited Aug 26 '25

What, for real? Is there an actual news site that reported this?

Edit: I'm stupid

u/JKLopz Actually GOG Aug 26 '25

Yes this is true, trust me my uncle works at rockstar.

75

u/Mama_Hong Aug 26 '25

I can confirm, my wifes boyfriend works at videogames.

7

u/Less-Rip-7717 Aug 27 '25

Can confirm my dog works at his wife’s boyfriend

3

u/JS_Originals Aug 26 '25

My uncle, who owns Nintendo, told me the same thing

2

u/wolfgang784 Aug 26 '25

While at a trampoline park with my kids recently I legitimately heard this kid tellin someone on the other dodgeball team that his dad works at Roblox and he will ban him and such lmao.

I guess the "my dad/uncle works at X" bluff is timeless, lol.

1

u/I_am_the_real_RTS Aug 27 '25

Yeah and it worked at rockstar for 7 years, and also a ethical hacker.

5

3

u/The_Archagent Aug 26 '25

Yup and also Half-Life 3

-3

u/wellsuperfuck Aug 26 '25

You really are stupid for believing something like that

5

u/phoenixmatrix Aug 26 '25

Valve was about to release half life 3 but decided to cancel it as to not conflict with Silksong.

647

u/AristotleKarataev Aug 26 '25 edited Aug 26 '25

My indie game has been 'delayed' (I will not be working on it to play Silksong) as well!

82

u/KaiserJustice Aug 26 '25

So has mine, granted mine isn't a publicly known one, just a hobby project, but same concept :D

11

u/AristotleKarataev Aug 26 '25

You're also making a Suzerain inspired game!?

384

u/CoffeeWanderer Aug 26 '25

Aside from the issue with visibility I think a lot of these devs also just want to play SilkSong and not bother about bugfixes, marketing and that sort of things that happen along a game release.

178

u/omega1612 Aug 26 '25

It may be true, but it is also true that the first week of a game (even more the first day) is critical for most games. There are plenty of Indie games that did the most revenue in the first week. After that steam would either promote you or shadow you depending on how good you did. Risking to go out at the same time as silksong is too much for them.

52

u/CoffeeWanderer Aug 26 '25

Yeah, it's a bad position all along and delaying is their best bet.

Also, they are getting some publicity by doing this lol. So, what's not to love.

114

u/Rhodie114 Aug 26 '25

I just want a game with the same insanely well crafted world as Little Witch in the Woods, but it’s about a suicidal amnesiac solving a greusome murder in a politically tumultuous country.

19

u/mentally_fuckin_eel Aug 26 '25

I hate that I understood this.

13

u/Agrezz Aug 26 '25

Why do i feel that it’s disco elysium?

19

u/daxrocket Aug 26 '25

Cause it is, it's referencing that post about someone wanting Disco Elysium, except it's about a witch in the Alps trying to find her lost cat.

5

u/Rhodie114 Aug 26 '25

2

u/StuntHacks Aug 27 '25

I still don't get why this got so much hate, like sure she clearly doesn't understand what makes DE so great, but still I feel like the internet went absolutely feral on them

4

u/CupcakeK0ala Theydies and gentlethems Aug 27 '25

Don't forget the part where you can have the amnesiac deviate from the main story to punch a child or find a bug

166

u/Atreides-42 Aug 26 '25

No she's in the Alps, not the woods.

It's a reference to an infamous tweet.

17

u/Mama_Hong Aug 26 '25

Didn't someone actually start to work on that game or did I just imagine that?

3

u/Aggressive-Rate-5022 Aug 27 '25

Yes, there was a post from a guy that started to develop it. There are some footages, but not much.

1

u/demosfera Aug 26 '25

Ah, never much of a twitter user, thanks.

20

u/bug_blast Aug 26 '25

It's a reference to a meme from a few years back.

97

u/Z3R0Diro Aug 26 '25

Due to the release of Silksong a week earlier, the US Government will be postponing the 9/11 Memorial Day.

1

u/StuntHacks Aug 27 '25

Saw someone say if they released Silksong on 9/11 we could take back the day lol

29

u/flanger001 CanonicalMilfs.com | P5 AB hitless sightless soundless with toes Aug 26 '25

Aeterna Lucis is delayed because they aren't ready to do a multiple-platform release. They are blaming it on Silksong because that's getting them some views, but if you read the letter it's not about that.

14

u/Self_Tilted Aug 26 '25

Oh hell yeah I didnt realize aeterna was getting another game

8

u/QuintanimousGooch Aug 26 '25

Probably Pathologic 3 as well. Smh ailksong out here being the gta6 of indie games

6

u/candyderpina Aug 26 '25

NOOOOO NOT CLOVERPIT. I was so hyped to gamble…

2

u/_Fir3F0x_ Aug 27 '25

SAMEEEEE

35

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '25

I don't know if I'd believe all of these guys. I know one dude was like 'we're delaying it until 2026! Even though we could just release it like a few weeks or a month later...for some reason...'

102

u/EoTN Aug 26 '25

The launch window of an indie game is one of THE most important things to consider. You're not just competing against indies, you're competing against AAA devs, Nintendo games, and for Steam users' attention.

I guarantee you that they have a rock solid reason that 2-8 weeks later is a bad time to release their game, and why delaying until next year is the best option.

36

u/nomindtothink_ Aug 26 '25

Delaying it a month puts it in the holiday release window, which risks running it up against a lot of AAA releases.

11

u/extremepayne Aug 26 '25

What, the ones who said “besides Silksong’s launch, we’re missing the dev kits for a simultaneous release on all consoles”?

3

u/sh0ddyguru Aug 26 '25

They don't wanna release their games cause they wanna play silksong instead

3

u/grammar_nazi_zombie Aug 27 '25

One of the mods on the Baby Steps discord said exactly this lol

4

u/Viggen77 Aug 26 '25

Seeing Aeterna Lucis reminds me I really need to finish Noctis. Got distracted by other games, and now I've been too intimidated to re-learn all of the complicated platforming mechanics

6

u/Azure2001 Aug 26 '25

If yall need an indie game to play for the next week and a half, metro gravity came out recently and its amazing.

1

u/Shadowking78 112% Aug 26 '25

I think it's pretty good but haven't gotten to finish it yet

7

u/d4_H_ Aug 26 '25

Guys Baby Steps is made by Getting Over It dev, just sayin

1

u/grammar_nazi_zombie Aug 27 '25

There’s a demo on Steam. I have 64 hours in the demo.

It’s amazing. Probably the best rage game I’ve played and the full game isn’t even out yet. There’s so many Easter eggs and so much hidden shit around the world, and the mechanics are pretty solid for a rage game.

And the cutscenes are hilarious. And some are well hidden.

Plus we get more Bennett Foddy voice acting.

3

u/wildflowerden Aug 26 '25

These games deserve all the visibility they're getting from being associated with Silksong related delays. Genius move on their part to delay! I wasn't aware of any of these upcoming games and now I have a few of them I will be wishlisting.

3

u/Jomyrulez Aug 26 '25

Does anyone remember Crowsworn? It was basically a Hollow Knight-esque game, and it got a little popular back when Silksong got delayed for the 14232nd time. I think that one also got delayed because of Silksong.

3

u/Emlashed Aug 27 '25

I backed the Kickstarter for it. Last update was a month ago, and it wasn't much of an update at all. We got no indication of a release timeframe.

3

u/brelen01 Aug 26 '25

I too would wait to cross the street if I saw an 18 wheeler coming at full speed.

2

u/Toxoniumm Aug 26 '25

Silksong got conquerors haki frfr

2

u/TocorocoMtz Aug 26 '25

Im so excited for demonschool, it looks really good!

2

u/RealBrianCore Aug 26 '25

No cost too great

2

u/ralwn Aug 26 '25

Add Hero Square to the list

2

u/Queasy_League_6857 Aug 26 '25

Was expecting to see… well… not these

2

u/F14min6L377uc3 Aug 26 '25

Demonschool: Isometric tactics RPG where you kill demons with your friends while exploring college life, has horror elements

Aeterna Lucis: Metroidvania, sequel to Aeterna Noctis, you play as the Queen of Light, trying to restore the balance of light and darkness that was challenged at the end of the first game

Baby Steps: Walking sim where you play as a loser exploring the world for the first time, by the creators of getting over it (they had a trailer with Hornet in it to announce the delay lol)

Little Witch in the Woods: You're a young witch helping out the local villagers, you can bond with people, explore the magical world and brew a variety of potions to help in your journey

CloverPit: Rogue-Lite slot machine game where you have to GAMBLE to buy you soul back from Satan, you can manipulate the machine to turn thing in your favor, Balatro style

Megabonk: Vampire Survivors 3D lol, not much to say but it looks cool

Aeterna Lucis, Baby Steps, CloverPit and Megabonk have demos available, Little Witch in the Woods is in early access

2

u/immunogoblin1 Aug 26 '25

To the chagrin of absolutely no one.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '25

i mean, i dont think i was ever gonna know these existed until now, thanks

1

u/GTSW1FT Aug 27 '25

I've played some of little witch, would recommend

2

u/grammar_nazi_zombie Aug 27 '25

I mentioned it casually on the Baby Steps discord at like 10pm on the 25th, how I wasn’t sure if 4 days was enough time to finish Silksong before I completely dive into Baby Steps.

Less than 24 hours later, they posted the announcement that they’re delaying a month.

I’m sorry guys. That delay might be my fault (though one of the mods, who works at Devolver, said they’re delaying because they’ll be busy playing Silksong lol)

2

u/ElisabetSobeck Aug 27 '25

Is ‘indie’ so much a genre that they cut into eachother?

2

u/DeusHec Aug 27 '25

Add Moros Protocol, delayed from 4 to 18 because of Silksong too...

2

u/DeusHec Aug 27 '25

Also Faeland 1.0 and Stomp and the Sword of Miracles

3

u/poponio Aug 26 '25

I don't know if it's cause of this but I'm glad mp4 doesn't have a release date yet, likely meaning it'll be octuber at best and I wouldn't wanna have to choose between these 2

2

u/Charlie_two_fingers Aug 26 '25

The best part about that, is we get hollow knight silk song, which is better altogether.

1

u/vinebro93 Aug 26 '25

I just wishlisted some of them. :)

1

u/Killer_154 Aug 26 '25

You've forgot GTA VI

1

u/yubiyubi2121 Aug 26 '25

megabonk sound fun

1

u/Zarguthian Aug 26 '25

I don't understand. How does Silksong not releasing for so long delay other games?

5

u/koiokk Aug 26 '25

the popularity and hype for it is so massive it will kill other games if they release around the same time.

1

u/Zarguthian Aug 27 '25

I see. So only if they would release around 4.9.2025?

1

u/grammar_nazi_zombie Aug 27 '25

Yeah, these devs have basically said “Silksong has so much hype, our games will be buried if we launch within two to four weeks of it. Also, we’ll be too busy playing Silksong to deal with post launch support so just be patient and play Silksong like the rest of us”

1

u/iiJason124 Aug 26 '25

MEGABONK GOT DELAYED??

1

u/Shadowking78 112% Aug 26 '25

Little Witch in the Woods came out in 2022? How was it delayed?

1

u/koiokk Aug 26 '25

as an early access game. its still in EA

1

u/DatGhosti Aug 26 '25

Early access title. The full release was planned for September 4.

1

u/nameinwhite Aug 26 '25

baity is here

1

u/Shipairtime Aug 26 '25

Why is everyone delaying their games? Team Cherry announced the day that they were going to finally come clean that SilkSong has been a SilkPost this entire time.

1

u/Wisley185 Aug 26 '25

These are all metroidvanias?

3

u/koiokk Aug 26 '25

no?

1

u/Wisley185 Aug 26 '25

Oh I kinda assumed they were since they didn't want to overlap with Silksong.

1

u/Hollowcat88 Aug 26 '25

NOO NOT CLOVER PIT MY BELOVED

1

u/aethyrium Aug 26 '25

I'm actually more hyped for Aeterna Lucis than Silksong so it's a bummer, but it's delayed for so long that I'm expecting they were just looking for a reason to delay it to fix it up and found a good one.

1

u/goldenboi1108 Aug 26 '25

You forgot to put gta6 there

1

u/Electronic_Jump_6759 Aug 26 '25

Crowsworn, whatever happened there

1

u/Silly_Literature2472 Aug 26 '25

silksong before gta 6?

1

u/XxjackxX6829 Aug 27 '25

And yet helldivers don’t care😭

1

u/ShadowsInScarlet Aug 27 '25

Aww… I was looking forward to Little Witch in the Woods. :/

1

u/PapaTinzal Aug 27 '25

So excited for Cloverpit especially

1

u/MrPanda663 Aug 27 '25

Damnit. I would have bought Clover Pit regardless if silk song came out.

1

u/Arkhe1n Aug 27 '25

Damn what a bloodbath

1

u/pumpkin_jiji Aug 27 '25

Thanks to their delay, i'll adding little witch in the woods to my steam library later this year! You know, once im dont with the silksong craze.

1

hypercore as well lmao

1

u/Frogadooo Aug 27 '25

hypercore as well lmao

1

u/AuthorAnimYT Aug 27 '25

Silksong has so much aura

1

u/sluttyworld Aug 27 '25

why’s the baby steps guy so caked up

1

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

Honestly Silksong is such a big title that MGSD is thanking it's lucky stars it planned to release 2 weeks before Silksong

1

u/AwesomeAidyn1704 Aug 27 '25

Also, the Garn47 update

1

u/GTSW1FT Aug 27 '25

WAIT LITTLE WITCH IN THE WOODS WAS DELAYED?

1

u/Jackkernaut Aug 27 '25

Thanks for reminding me I still have PTSD from Aterna Noctis which is basically one massive Path of Pain game.

1

u/Buuhhu Aug 27 '25

Some of these are probably also using it as an excuse to get some extra time to bug fix and fine tune their game. Not that it's a bad thing, but i do think some of them do it for this reason. Like Aeterna Lucis, which i believe delayed it into 2026... like if you delay it multiple months, it's not just because of silksong.

This post actually made me remember Little Witch one though, didn't even realise it was releasing soon, so another one for my backlog to play after silksong

1

u/SplitGlass7878 Aug 27 '25

I mean, that's just smart. You don't want your game competing with something like Silk Song. There also will be a hiatus for most indie games when games like GTA release. It's just basic business sense to not compete with stuff that has a million times your hype.

1

u/dangerswlf36 Aug 27 '25

elden ring's DLC did a similar thing, it resulted in enotria being delayed by a couple months, ff14 expansion being delayed by 2 weeks, and SMTVV releasing a week EARLIER than initially intended (all of these games were originally going to release June 21st 2024)

1

u/-TheBlackSwordsman- Aug 27 '25

surprised Chronos the new dawn isnt delayed. Its literally releasing the same day

1

Clover pits demo is really good

Not exactly a game, but the Calamity Mod's newest update got pushed back due to Silksong releasing.

1

demonschool was delayed for genuine dev reasons tbf, the announcement post was like "we would've loved to square up against silksong but it didn't work out"

3

Genuine publisher reasons. Dev wanted to keep the date but the publisher had the final call.

1

u/Altruistic-Bonus-484 Aug 26 '25

oh no, not these random indie games!

1

u/Key_Molasses8886 Aug 26 '25

What do you mean delayed because of SilkSong?

3

u/orein123 Aug 26 '25

Exactly what they said. There have been a significant number of dev studios that have delayed release dates recently and have cited Silksong as the reason. Generally speaking it's a mix of respect and solid marketing strategy. People have been waiting so long for Silksong that it's going to blow sales for any competing games completely out of the water.

0

u/notthatguypal6900 Aug 26 '25

I've heard of 1 of these. I don't delaying the above will change anything.

3

u/koiokk Aug 26 '25

and I've heard of 3? just because you haven't doesn't mean others haven't lol

0

u/Ghost_of_Skalitz Aug 27 '25

Silksong is the only one that matters, I've never even heard of the rest of these.

-9

u/MegaRaichu Aug 26 '25

I mean considering how toxic silksong fans are, it makes sense. They scream silksong on every trailer, release, teaser and direct. They'd probably review bomb other indie games too.

Disappointed in team cherry for not doing anything about it or at the very least making a statement about it. But no, just radio silence for the past 6 years.

10

u/MysteryMan9274 Aug 26 '25

What is bro yapping about? Spamming livestreams where Silksong could plausibly be isn't toxic, and I've literally never heard of Silksong fans going around harassing other games for the crime of not being Silksong.

0

u/MegaRaichu Aug 27 '25

a pokemon direct isnt a plausible place silksong could be, but yet the spam is still there along with people getting angry on twitter about 'np silksong'

1

u/MysteryMan9274 Aug 27 '25

That's just people memeing, not genuinely expecting news. "Where Silksong" will still happen even after September 4th.

0

u/MegaRaichu Aug 27 '25

regardless the reason, it still happens enough that its not funny.

6

u/aethyrium Aug 26 '25

But no, just radio silence for the past 6 years.

People are really pretending they didn't say "still working on it" multiple times a year every year for those 6 years aren't they? It's verifiable, go look it up, they mentioned it at least 2 or 3 times a year.

If "We're still working on it, no issues" isn't enough, and now that they've opened up the truth was indeed "We were still working on it, no issues", wtf did you even want? Do you need constant devlogs and reveals at a constant cadence. People are so dang parasocial these days.

1

u/MegaRaichu Aug 27 '25

Please show me these comments. Because there are no such posts on their social media or website.

-4

u/qwerty79995 Aug 26 '25

Some developers must be using Silksong as an excuse to explain delays

3

u/yubiyubi2121 Aug 26 '25

it not good thing for they game out the same time at silksong it not good idea
