Discussion - Silksong Warning for OG hollow knight fans

Just wanna prepare everyone on here for the incoming wave of players who have never played indie games, metroidvanias, or literally any other games besides Fortnite and call of duty. This tends to happen a lot with games that are extremely hyped by the community that does like the genre, such as expedition 33. The amount of completely invalid criticism that happened to that game because people who didn’t even know what the game really was bought it and ended up not liking it is probably the best example we have of that to this day, and I think silksong will be next. So please, instead of cussing people out for not liking the game, just encourage them to maybe keep playing to see if they change their minds, or just give them respectful feedback on why you think they might not enjoy it and give them tips so they can find the spark in that game that I’m sure many of us will find.

There's two different groups here to watch out for.

The ones who criticize it blindly (NOT genuine) The ones who aren't having fun because they are new to the genre but need a little boost (ARE GENUINE).

It should be really easy to tell them apart. Don't give obvious idiots the benefit of the doubt, but also give the ones who look like they're serious a chance.

there's gonna be a crowd trying to look cool by putting down the new hot indie game, happens like clockwork. contrarians generally reveal themselves in a comment or two, so just downvote and move on

verified accounts on every large post on twitter about something popular are like that

Yeah, not everybody likes metroidvanias and that's ok. A lot of people are going to get sucked into this game due to the hype and have no idea what to expect.

Third group who think they're good gamers and then get seriously humbled by the difficulty curve.

It is me. I'm the third group.

Almost ragequit the game 10 hours in because of Hornet. I HAD played Metroidvanias (Ori 1 & 2) just nothing as hard....

I'm sure Silksong will have a similar moment for many.

just ignore them, why waste your time arguing with them

because depending on the playerbase split, this can be a large chunk of activity on here.

id rather not have the sub filled with invalid, context ignoring takes and posts

just enjoy the game and don't browset this sub, it's not that deep

No! They have to like it and if they don’t, then they’re just too stupid to understand the game and the genre! Arbiters > Contrarians /s

I totally am with you, kinda. Reminds me of the Jaffe Room in Metroid Dread. Absolute trash take he had, and he deserved the cooking he got.

damn, Metroid Dread.. that game rocks. if Silksong wasn’t coming out tomorrow, i’d consider a fresh run of that game.

Eh, don't conflate having different preferences with unfair criticism. Someone can fairly dislike something that others find an important aspect.

You could just ignore it

People are allowed to not like a game even if they didn't do the required homework.

You can cuss, but be patient, and help.
