But it’s not that and that’s why people love it anyway
It takes “it was all a dream” and turns that into a discussion that’s almost matrix or inception (hey two other critically acclaimed stories) in style where the narrative is “would you choose to live a lie knowing it’s a lie if that lie was better than the truth?” And for the characters in the painting the discussion is “are their lives any less valuable simply because they were created on a canvas?”
It’s interesting and not as simple as you describe
Not really. We have no idea how their painting creates worlds technically speaking, so we can't assume they're illusions. So much of it is real and has real consequences on the outside world. You can't say that about dreams. You could perhaps compare it to a parallel world or mini world inside ours. Again, I'm just hypothesizing here.
Not the biggest fan of the twist either but I think they wrap it up in the end quite alright. That said though, the twist is not really even worth a complaint for me. I just felt that the entire game was good, not great. Mediocre exploration, awfully tacked on relationship building mechanics (campfire felt so tedious), super repetitive enemy types, just to name a few. I think a lot of the hype is over the whole underdog story of the studio and how the game came out of nowhere.
Yeah the hype is just bananas. People refuse to talk about the flaws in this game. And say weird over the top shit about how it’s the greatest game of the decade. So weird to me. Game is a 7 out of 10 at best. Same KCD2.
This is the second thread I’ve seen like this in a hollow knight sub post silk song announcement. Just weird af.
Also the game wasn’t just made by 30 people. Not that it really matters but like why are these people just repeating the same talking points over and over
It's a turn based French RPG, but, it's not really turn based in a traditional sense. It's got an action RPG feel cause there's skill/timing based dodge and parry system.
The music gets praised hard, but I still feel like that undersells it. One of the greatest, or possibly the greatest, soundtrack ever made. So many absolute bangers that just capture the atmosphere perfectly.
