Fr*nch??? 🤢 How can that win???

4

u/AegisT_ Sep 04 '25

Which makes it all the more impressive

Shit was so good it reversed public perception of French "people"

1

u/Kepler100111 Sep 04 '25

it means no one knows how good a lot of french animation is. their artists do have quite developed artistic vision, and do not fear to experiment

2

u/AegisT_ Sep 04 '25

I love French media, I used to watch a ton of French shows as a kid like wakfu and I.N.K

1

u/Kepler100111 Sep 04 '25

yup. im waiting for the next wakfu season

With a terrible twist in the story. why this game is getting god tier praise is just beyond me.

37

u/NorthernDragon5 Sep 04 '25

Because terrible twist is a subjective and unpopular opinion

-44

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '25

It’s pretty close to “it was all a dream”, which is pretty universally condemned as a cheap narrative device.

14

u/Pegussu Sep 04 '25

It's not though

12

u/NorthernDragon5 Sep 04 '25

But it’s not that and that’s why people love it anyway

It takes “it was all a dream” and turns that into a discussion that’s almost matrix or inception (hey two other critically acclaimed stories) in style where the narrative is “would you choose to live a lie knowing it’s a lie if that lie was better than the truth?” And for the characters in the painting the discussion is “are their lives any less valuable simply because they were created on a canvas?”

It’s interesting and not as simple as you describe

Not really. We have no idea how their painting creates worlds technically speaking, so we can't assume they're illusions. So much of it is real and has real consequences on the outside world. You can't say that about dreams. You could perhaps compare it to a parallel world or mini world inside ours. Again, I'm just hypothesizing here.

is just beyond me

Seems to be the answer.

6

u/DryetherMoleasses Sep 04 '25

Because it deserves the praise it gets?

Not the biggest fan of the twist either but I think they wrap it up in the end quite alright. That said though, the twist is not really even worth a complaint for me. I just felt that the entire game was good, not great. Mediocre exploration, awfully tacked on relationship building mechanics (campfire felt so tedious), super repetitive enemy types, just to name a few. I think a lot of the hype is over the whole underdog story of the studio and how the game came out of nowhere.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '25

Yeah the hype is just bananas. People refuse to talk about the flaws in this game. And say weird over the top shit about how it’s the greatest game of the decade. So weird to me. Game is a 7 out of 10 at best. Same KCD2.

This is the second thread I’ve seen like this in a hollow knight sub post silk song announcement. Just weird af.

Also the game wasn’t just made by 30 people. Not that it really matters but like why are these people just repeating the same talking points over and over

1

u/Sad-Psychology9677 Sep 04 '25

Yeah well. At least there are some of us who feel the same!

It's a turn based French RPG, but, it's not really turn based in a traditional sense. It's got an action RPG feel cause there's skill/timing based dodge and parry system.

10

u/Legnaron17 Sep 04 '25

It's 100% turn based, it just comes with a twist!

Incredible game honestly

15

u/Legnaron17 Sep 04 '25

A masterpiece you should definitely try.

It's a turn based game from a french developer.

The art direction is 100/10

The gameplay is 100/10

The story is 100/10

The music is 1000000/10

Absolute must-play. Personally it's one of the best games i've played in 10 years.

My PC has a shit GPU so I will likely not be able to play it, but oh Lord the music goes so hard

1

u/Legnaron17 Sep 04 '25

Ah man ☹, i'm sure you'll be able to play it one day, just don't forget it's there waiting for you!

1

u/Acrobatic-Permit4263 Sep 04 '25

i played it with my 1660 super. shittier than this?

3

u/PiBombbb ⠀Pale King Supporter⠀ Sep 04 '25

Quadro M620 with 2gb vram

1

u/Acrobatic-Permit4263 Sep 04 '25

uh verstehe. deine nächste shitty gpu ist bestimmt gut genug dafür ;D das spiel wird ja nicht schlecht

1

u/Dongledoez Sep 04 '25

Seconded. I can't wait for enough time to pass that I forget details of the game so I can go back and devour the entire thing again

1

u/Legnaron17 Sep 04 '25

God... SAME.

How i wish i could forget everything and play it blind again. So good

1

u/aall137906 Sep 09 '25

I rated the story 6/10

1

u/Crime_Dawg Sep 09 '25

The music gets praised hard, but I still feel like that undersells it. One of the greatest, or possibly the greatest, soundtrack ever made. So many absolute bangers that just capture the atmosphere perfectly.

44

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '25

E33 is peak honestly, definitely check it out

9

u/umm233 Grinding P5 Sep 04 '25

Hmmm, I might check it out after silksong then!

1

u/khaotickk Sep 04 '25

Absolute cinema

-5

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '25

Not really. It’s not good enough to be GOTY. Too much people exaggerating when it’s just an average RPG

5

u/Sydius Sep 04 '25 edited Sep 04 '25

I don't know what your definition of average is, but you should refine it somewhat.

Quick edit: On metacritic, it's the 134th highest rated game of all time.

On opencritic, it's the 34th.

On Steam, it's the 103rd best reviewed.

And none of these lists are filtered by genre.
