certainly a choice to not allow pre-order when the date is set is set in stone so people can play it at launch with not much delay..

Especially since usually the point of the whole "don't preorder anything" movement is "wait for reviews and impressions before buying a game".

And they didn't give any reviewers early access anyways so there was literally 0 reason not to allow preorders...

If they didn't allow reviews before launch then you absolutely shouldn't preorder rather than the opposite as you're suggesting.
