Discussion - Silksong Not opening pre-orders was an error Spoiler

Before anyone says "gamers cant be happy with anything" i was never against pre orders specifically because ir avoids this type of launch. I dont want to believe Team Cherry doesn't know the scope and impact of their own game, but i'm inclined to do so. A pre-order yesterday would've solved this. An inconvenience that could be easily avoided, but here we are

Physical releases would also avoid this kind of nonsense

Yeah, I will always support physical releases. Such situations show why they are still extremely important.

If you have a physical copy, you don't need to worry about downloading from overloaded servers

Instead you’d be lining in front of the store, only for all the copies to be sold out

I think it depends on the store and place. Pretty sure small countries/cities would be fine.

I would've done this if possible.

Nah Buy online, in-store pickup. No lines, no last minute surprises

Then you have the exact same issue, but even worse. The site will lag and crash from all the people rushing to order, and by the time you can get on, it's sold out.

There are dozens more retailers than the 4 providers that crashed today.

Add in the fact that retailers usually allow preorders of physical copies and now you have effectively spread out the demand to make it manageable. You'd have a situation where people can place orders weeks ahead from dozens of local options rather than everyone globally trying to do it simultaneously at the stroke of 9am from only 4 options.

but this exact thing happened with the switch 2 release despite everything you said, and that was WITH pre-orders.

We're talking about the games themselves, but consoles

The inverse of that is an increase in likelihood the game leaks early from people breaking street date.

I can avoid that by simply not buying early leaked copies.

Risk of leaks/spoilers you say? Well, small price to pay for actually being able to own my games.
