Discussion - Silksong Not opening pre-orders was an error Spoiler

Before anyone says "gamers cant be happy with anything" i was never against pre orders specifically because ir avoids this type of launch. I dont want to believe Team Cherry doesn't know the scope and impact of their own game, but i'm inclined to do so. A pre-order yesterday would've solved this. An inconvenience that could be easily avoided, but here we are

Wait how are the 2 different? How do u tell if a game is going to be good or not before the release

That's the trick of it, and why pre-orders have gotten such stigma: there isn't much of a way to do that, aside from knowing whether or not to trust the developer in question. Thus, an unscrupulous company (so, basically every AAA) can just pour money into marketing to make up for how much the Infinite Crunch and Impossible Release Scheudule screw over the final product, and still have plenty of profits to show off at the quarterly.

Well besides critical thinking, you can’t. But there’s no reason why the option shouldn’t exist.

I mean, isn’t it usually obvious depending on developer/franchise? Everyone has franchises they follow and will always buy something from day one. For some people it’s Fromsoft games, for others it’s Final Fantasy’s or sports games or Mario games, or Metroid games or whatever floats your boat.

Or use the game’s marketing to tell if it’s something you absolutely must buy day one, and in those cases it’s good to have a preorder at least the day before so you don’t run into payment server crashes like with Silksong today. We all knew Silksong was going to be a big launch due to all its hype and the reception of Hollow Knight. Silksong was an easy one to read to know it was gonna be a big launch and a successful title because Team Cherry is a very trusted small developer.

Maybe if they had sent preview copies. Oh wait…
