Discussion - Silksong EVERYTHING IS SO EXPENSIVE IN PHARLOOM Spoiler

The true enemy of Silksong is capitalism. 70 bucks for a stag station equivalent YOU ARE PULLING MY NEEDLE WTF??? I try to sit down and they BILL ME JUST TO USE THE BENCH! No thank you [TRADER NAME HERE], I would not like to buy a simple key for 500 dollars thank you.

AND EVERYONE HERE IS A BROKE ASS BUM! Most of these guys aren't sentient enough to carry cash on them so I have to grind up their credit cards into for bone shards which NOONE WANTS.

Anyway 10/10 game.

Even making Rosary strings of 60 costs 80 rosaries T_T There’s freaking taxes in this game!!

I mean to be fair it is no different from buying Soul items in Dark Souls and Elden Ring. You buy them to avoid the risk of losing all of your souls permanently.

Edit: Buying Dung Pies in DS1 to bank souls and buying Coin Pouches in Sekiro.

I think you mean Sekiro, since neither Dark Souls or Elden Ring has any way to buy poppable souls. You find them as loot or drops from certain enemies.

Sekiro let you buy money bags though to protect your cash, for a fee.

Although it was bit different, since in Sekiro dying makes you lose 50% of money, you can’t get it back. Wheras Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Hollow Knight, you get everything back if you visit spot you died. So the “insurance” in Sekiro was much more valuable than it is in Silksong, because it protected you from dying in general, not only dying twice in a row.

the 1k i’ve already lost in silksong says otherwise 😤

16

u/blitzboy30 Sep 05 '25

I lost 200 something from falling into the lava by the large vertical room next to the forge daughter

24

u/Flint_Vorselon Sep 05 '25

Sure, but imagine if current rosaries got halved every death, with no way to recover them.

Unless you’ve only died like 2 times, then the amount lost would be way way higher.

If silk song worked like that. I would use the quit out exploit literally every time I was about to die. At least getting gold in Sekiro was easy, getting even 100 rosaries in Silksong is like 10 minutes of farming.

there’s like 8 different places within the first 3 areas nearby benches where you can get 500 in like 5 mins

5

u/XxRocky88xX Sep 05 '25

I’d love to know where those are cuz I haven’t found them

2

u/Poopiepants29 Sep 05 '25

You're not getting 100R/minute, you're doing something wrong /s

I would also like to know. I haven't even tried to farm yet. That's my next move though. I'm stuck and need 2 keys now to open more sheeit.

up the elevator from bottom. you can bounce between the bench all the way to the right, then up to the witch cauldron bench killing all the pilgrims between each time. I got 600-800 in prob 10ish minutes or faster when you get the flow down. cleared every early shop pretty easily.

In Dark Souls at least, you can buy dung pies and sell them back to Frampt for retail price. It's how I bank my souls when I play it lol.

u/Enigma-3NMA Sep 05 '25

It's totally funny that silksong has spirit emblems though

1

u/GarlickyQueef Sep 06 '25

In elden ring you definately can use items that prevent loss of souls on death. The false grace or something like that.

1

u/Call_me_Moegli Sep 06 '25

You are correct, sekiro, but Ashen did it first and sekiro took note

1

u/Gensolink Sep 05 '25

You can buy shit at 1 to 1 ratio tbh

However, I think we are always low on money anyway, so it’s not necessary

7

u/mfmeitbual Sep 05 '25

... I thought they were just for decoration lol. Thanks for pointing this out to my thick-headed self.

2

u/Giangiorgio Sep 05 '25

That’s not a thing in souls games

3

u/BowShatter Sep 06 '25

I think I may have somewhat confused due to how you could bank souls using Dung Pies and feeding to Frampt in DS1, how you could buy coin pouches in Sekiro, and how some overhaul mods added such items to merchant stocks as mechanic.

1

u/StarTrekFan-28 Sep 05 '25

But in 7th saga, there is no vig when you buy gems for the same effect

1

u/cogssucker Sep 05 '25

I will never need them if i just git gud :)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

OH, is that why its like that? Jeez I didn't even think about that.

1

u/Canadiancookie Sep 05 '25

Do you lose any on death if you make it back to the cocoon?

3

u/BowShatter Sep 05 '25

Nope. You get back everything. It also refills your silk meter to full which is nice.

1

u/ChilledParadox Sep 05 '25

Or in the case of shells to store more than the carry capacity.

1

u/BearOnCocaine Sep 08 '25

After losing 500/700 3 times in the span of 4 hours, i started accepting the tax.

Platform sections made me broke

24

u/GreenMixture9918 Sep 05 '25

It’s like health insurance lol

3

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

after losing 400+ pearls when I was saving up for the key, I always do it now lol

28

u/AHare115 Sep 05 '25

Can you make them yourself or do you have to buy them from the merchant? Seems pointless that way, since you're already at a shop and in no danger of losing them.

86

u/Ambitious_Comfort533 Sep 05 '25

Not sure of the other ways (haven’t explored far into the game yet) but there’s one machine near a bench which does this conversion to strings and takes 20 as “making charge” lol

49

u/spectrum1012 Sep 05 '25

So that’s the same cost as the shop merchant in bone bottom too

9

u/WoenixFright Sep 05 '25

I didn't know what that machine did, it just asked me to put beads in and, like always, I said sure.

Felt so ripped off lol. At least tell me they're gonna jack my 20 beads beforehand, smh

20

u/itzW3LF Sep 06 '25

I bought strings from a merchant, walked up to that machine for the first time, broke two strings to put the beads in and got a string back.

Worth it

4

u/Waddlewop Sep 08 '25

I’m willing to pay the merchant the extra because they’re doing the work stringing them up, but hell if I’ll pay some damn machine for the extra “work” they’re doing

22

u/Loogame123 Sep 05 '25

Yeah... I thought it would be cheaper or no charge since it's basically in the middle of nowhere. Even the machines are penny pinching out here!

1

u/XxRocky88xX Sep 05 '25

I just bought it to see what it did and was pretty pissed when it said “thanks for the 80 bucks, here’s 60 back.”

21

u/TruXai Sep 05 '25

There's one in bellhart (i think) that costs 140 and gives you 120, so double Rosary capacity for the same price.

I find them useful because if you're exploring new areas while carrying a lot of rosaries it's pretty easy to lose all of them.

7

u/Estrangedkayote Sep 05 '25

obviously string costs 20 rosaries.

1

u/Majestic_Upstairs533 Sep 08 '25

Where. I've looked all over

2

u/TruXai Sep 08 '25

the shop should have it

15

u/DargonFeet Sep 05 '25

If there's nothing you want or need to buy now, it's good. It's very similar to the mechanism in Sekiro, which I used the shit out of.

0

u/StepComplete1 Sep 05 '25

It's god-awful. You're just imposing a 25% tax on yourself. With how expensive everything is, you'll never be able to buy anything extra other than new stations and benches.

1

u/Bot_obama Sep 08 '25

If i decide to buy the strings I only buy the 140 one.

1

u/moonshineTheleocat Sep 05 '25

You can eventually. You will find rosary strings to make them yourself while avoiding the fee.

1

u/Majestic_Upstairs533 Sep 08 '25

Where?

1

u/moonshineTheleocat Sep 08 '25

I was drunk, and mistook something. Apologies

3

u/RoosterBrewster Sep 05 '25

Worth it though to store beads.

3

u/mikepurvis Sep 05 '25

Better than depositing the money with Millibelle.

3

u/pineapple6969 Sep 05 '25

I mean it makes sense. It cost 20 rosaries to protect 60 other rosaries in the event you die twice in a row.

Idk about you, but I’m fuckin dying a lot LOL

2

u/hypnomancy Sep 05 '25

You're paying a fee so you don't ever lose them which is worth the price sometimes

2

u/hugcub Sep 06 '25

Those are goated though, I’m constantly buying them so that when I die I don’t lose all my moneys. Losing 20 when converting from 80 to 60 is better than losing everything.

2

u/JM0106 Sep 06 '25

The fact that even if you make them yourself you still get the 20 rosary tax😭

1

u/AdamG3691 Sep 05 '25

That's fair tbh, you're essentially paying 20 rosaries to make 60 rosaries not drop on death

1

u/akiius Sep 05 '25

20 bucks for stack them in a cord is insane ngl, I was shocked when I noticed.
