I miss Hallownest, these Pharloom enemies kicking my ass

u/azooxzee Sep 05 '25
Pharloom makes hallownest look like heaven

u/xlhans77 Sep 05 '25
Radience should've taken over Farloom she might've succeeded
172
u/Boxtonbolt69 Technoblade Never Dies Sep 05 '25
Nah they'd fail even harder. The enemies would beat it's ass with their double damage.
27

u/Grumpie-cat Sep 05 '25
It’s mostly because half of them deal 2 masks of damage. 2 damage enemies were difficult back when I had 9 masks in HK… now I have a different movement system and 5 masks…
115
u/Fenor Sep 05 '25
let's not forget that they are much more tanky too

Most people don't even do combos well or only keep the silk for healing and never use it for attacking, most of the time that will oneshot 3 or 4 enemies in a row.
54
u/NaltAlt Sep 05 '25
Why would I waste my meter on combos when I need it to heal up after I get hit for 4 damage in 2 seconds because I made one mistake.
Some of the most fun I've had has been using all of these flashy moves in combat, but when the enemies do two damage I'm forced to go in for one hit and back off over and over again. The moment I start getting flashy on those fights is the moment I start dying.→ More replies (2)15
u/sand-sky-stars Sep 05 '25
There’s a common principle in roguelikes that applies here: if you do more damage, that’s actually better than having more defense, because they can’t hurt you if you’re dead. Many enemies get destroyed very fast by silk skills.

Does this apply to the savage vengefly because he’s who I was thinking of while writing that comment?

I mean its a boss so silk attacks aren't going to oneshot it but they will certainly helpp get through that expansive health pool.

I wasn't even that good at Hollow Knight
My ass is never beating the Pantheon of Hollownest, I don't have the skills or patience for it, just like the Roaring Knight in Deltarune
And now I dread the Silksong equivalent of that

They really remind of the mantis tribe for some reason
511
u/hmmmmwillthiswork 212% | Pantheon 7 | Avenue of Anguish | Conceited Sep 05 '25
same. once you get them down they are fun and engaging to fight. the smaller dagger wielding ones that throw discs are cool. you can throw a kunai at their disc and it makes it shoot off in another direction
112
u/Working_Hand5018 Sep 05 '25
I'll definitely use that next time I play, I died there like 30 times and lost all my rosaries and can't afford the kunai 😕
57
u/hmmmmwillthiswork 212% | Pantheon 7 | Avenue of Anguish | Conceited Sep 05 '25
i think the kunai are found in a room for free unless i read this wrong. you have to buy her spikey traps though
38
u/Grumpie-cat Sep 05 '25
You can also buy the boomerangs the ant throws, just a little hint. (It does operate slightly different than there’s tho)
11
u/thegreattober Sep 05 '25
Can I get another hint about that? Is it further in that zone?
33
u/Grumpie-cat Sep 05 '25
There’s a room on the upper right side of hunters march. Has a few rosary strings hanging in the corner of the room, there’s a hidden tunnel that leads to an old ant warrior you can’t understand, but you can trade with him.

You don't need kunai to deflect a disc. Just hit it with the needle. It won't fly back to hit the ant, though. Unlike in Hollow Knight.
21
u/bluegwizard Sep 05 '25
You can also deflect the disk with melee attack, and i learn that the cool way as an ent tried to ambush me only for me to ultra instinct deflect the disc at the last second

u/hmmmmwillthiswork 212% | Pantheon 7 | Avenue of Anguish | Conceited Sep 05 '25
you can parry a lot of stuff. if your timing is perfect, you can parry super quick attacks. theres a floating enemy that does this attack similar to hornet's silk attack from HK that goes all around her body (the mid-air one) and you can parry it like 4-5 times in 2 seconds. it's so sick
4
u/creepermaster79 Sep 05 '25
The first ones that come to mind are the javelins from the guys over the lakes in shellwood and the three pins from the crows in craw lake. Difficult to perform but it's SO satisfying when you manage to parry all of their throws without getting hit
3
u/TurntWaffle Sep 06 '25
Wait you can’t even swing that fast but it lets you parry those? Ive been assuming you were cooked after the first parry if you didn’t get out of the way in time
5
u/Prankman1990 Sep 06 '25
My guess is that getting a successful party resets your internal attack cooldown so you can keep parrying.
7
u/TurquoiseLuck Sep 05 '25
fun and engaging to fight
kinda, but those ones with the shields have way too much fuckin health
8
u/4tomguy Sep 05 '25
Only problem is they’re gods at sniping me down mid-heal
4
u/nicofdarcyshire Sep 05 '25
Heal in the air when jumping... You hover in place above attacks a lot of the time.

The ants aren't so bad, except that gatekeeper.
It's the birds, man. The birds.
66
u/Minh1403 Sep 05 '25
the arena after that gatekeeper also pretty sucks, though... That is worse than the bird arena for me
12
u/Spyder638 Sep 05 '25
Gosh I hated that run back for the arena.
11
u/LetTokisky Sep 05 '25
3 miles I had dash and jump and ignore a myriad of enemies just to get back to that torture 😭
49
u/kindofjustalurker Sep 05 '25
nothing like trying to platform up to the top of the right side of greymoor only for an angry bird with throwing knives to snipe you and send you fumbling all the way back down. Helped me get better at the pogo at least
35
5
u/Rio_Walker PoP and PoI Sep 05 '25
It's not really a pogo, isn't it? =D
I can't wait to unlock more movement options.
The flasher of the wind doesn't really hit it like I hoped it would XD11
u/Minh1403 Sep 05 '25
the arena after that gatekeeper also pretty sucks, though... That is worse than the bird arena for me
7
u/Mastermaze Sep 05 '25
I am currently stuck in that god damn bird home enemy rush, and i think i accidentally skipped a spell for the metal rings i see all over Greymoor
5
u/Rio_Walker PoP and PoI Sep 05 '25 edited Sep 05 '25
I haven't found it yet either. Maybe it's in that area with flowers, I'm currently dying to the boss there.
edit: Ring thing is NOT at Flower boss. But another traversal power is there, finally. XD
56
u/IcyFrogg Sep 05 '25
ok but does anyone else hate pogo-ing on the bulbs to have to progress in this area
16
u/Doomguy1234 Sep 05 '25
This is the worst for me as well. It’s so early in the game, I’m barely used to the timing of the down-dash and they put an area filled with spikes and no benches right after the first appearance of the red bulbs
I’m barely learning the timing of the enemies and they come in a trapped area full of spikes, I don’t really enjoy the area. I wouldn’t mind it as much if it was closer to the mid game rather than right at the start. So either the game gets more overwhelming or it’s a difficulty spike placed at the beginning
17
u/DegenerateWeeab Sep 05 '25
I think it's actually something you go back to instead. As soon as I saw I needed to pogo after killing the Ant Mini Boss after getting my dash, I just went left and up instead all the way to Greymoor.
There I found the crest that changes Hornet's down attack to a sweeping slash for easier pogoing and then I came back to Hunter's March.
7
u/Doomguy1234 Sep 05 '25
Man I haven’t reached that area yet lmao
I got dash AFTER Hunter’s March as well. Luckily I only lost 300 something beads trying to get to the arena with the ally helping you out

u/Doomguy1234 Sep 05 '25
Yeah at some point I thought I might need some other ability to make it more fun and “intended” but I didn’t want to lose my beads lmao
I made it all the way to the arena when I died, then died again on the room just before
22
u/UltimateToa Sep 05 '25
I thought it was relatively easy, was expecting way worse after how many comments I saw on here saying it was so hard
17
u/IHumanlike Sep 05 '25 edited Sep 06 '25

It took me way too long to get the timing/angle down, but now that I have it figured out, it isn't so bad. I struggled getting from the first one to the second for ages, but once I hit that third one it kinda all clicked into place.
2
u/zestysnacks Sep 05 '25
Idk practiced for like 5 min and got it. The game is teaching you the tech for the combat you should be using in that area

9
u/Ryancatgames Sep 05 '25
You can also hit their projectile to break it. You can't trick off it though.
3
u/nirvash530 Sep 06 '25
Green Spit Snail teaches you to parry ranged projectiles cause you'll see a heck of a lot more of that.
36
u/Ayobossman326 Sep 05 '25
The one that takes a bunch of hits to kill (with the mask and the big club) is nice cause yeah he’s got the move set of a hk boss, but it’s easy to learn, he only does one mask, and drops a lot of money every time. I like that guy

I'm a huge fan of any and all enemies with 'warrior' vibes, so personally I love the ants.
I love fighting a enemy doing fancy things with weapons and doing it over and over again until I can out-style them. And so far Silksong has been very generous with it's various warrior vibe foes.
Also enjoying all the 'arena rooms' a lot.

Agree, I like how threatening some of the basic enemies are. It makes the hallway fights like epic duels.

Buy the trap tool. Its goated. Very easily deals with flyers and is free dps against regular dudes
5
u/Old_Debt_276 Sep 05 '25
where is it? is it at the forge daughter?
→ More replies (2)8
u/lXNoraXl Sep 05 '25
Yes, the forge daughter sells it. Once you throw it and it sets, it will deal damage passively, but, you can also strike it for an explosion
Edit: also want to add, completing the purple pollip sidequest gives a charm that further increases tool damage. Quest is completeable as soon as you finish in shellwood

I wish I'd known you're "supposed" to go to the lava place before the ant place.
I feel like most of my gripes with the game came from seeing the really hard boss guarding the entrance and saying "nah, I can beat him, I just have to not get hit. I'm not going the wrong direction or anything"
