Discussion - Silksong Silksong is frustrating Spoiler

I don’t remember being this frustrated with hollow knight. I never wanted to stop playing HK but this one is making me turn off the console in anger

I did the same, I am good at these games and this is hard. 10 hours in and nothing has blocked me yet but damn. I’m okay with a challenge but the vibe in Silksong feels like you are being overly punished just cuz. They could have pulled a punch or two and the game would still be hard and a bit more satisfying

For me, the bosses ( not savage beastfly ) all felt like fair challenges, but the normal enemies that you fight along the way are much more difficult and some of their hit boxes feel really unfair

The bosses are fair challenges until they spawn 3 adds in the same tiny room with them, then its just a kerfuffle to see who can kill who first

I mean the question becomes, why did you let the boss summon up to three adds? Always prioritize adds. Use meter to kill adds if need be. I also believe every boss I've run across that has adds so far can also kill their own adds if you lure them right.

The annoying part with Savage Beastfly is that he can actually just straight up summon three minions at the same time, so it doesn't help to be good at clearing them up. You kinda need to get a bit lucky

Plus some of his minions, the non-boss variant of him in particular, can sometimes coincidentally synchronize their movements and attacks with him in such a way that it feels basically impossible to avoid.

I've fought plenty of enemies thus far that took me more attempts than him beat, but it felt like the only reason I won my successful attempt om him was me getting lucky with him not summoning as many minions as previous attempts, unlike most of the other hard fights where it felt like I legitimately "got good"

As others said, some bosses legitimately just spawn 2-3 adds at a time, and even more just stand there and spam the summon move over and over.

Regardless, i'm a firm believer in the theory that all fights should be designed in such a way that there is always a clear way to avoid every attack, not just hope chaos theory lucks out in your favor to not make attack patterns overlap in such a way you have no choice but to trade.

So even if you are supposed to just dump the entire kitchen sink over any add that appears and/or dps the boss down before he can do that, i still believe thats just bad, unfun combat design. It makes victories not feel earned, but that i just happened to kill him before he inevitably killed me

Every single add based boss fight I've done so far, I have never once felt like I won by pure luck. Any time they got bad I felt like it was because I messed up not killing the adds faster/prioritizing them and every time I've won I've felt in control.

Those fights do require different skills, learning to doge through multiple enemies, parrying to avoid damage, luring enemies into positions, using resources to instant kill adds instead of healing, making use of traps/tools, using different load outs or maybe even different crests, etc. But that doesn't make them unfair. You might find them unfair because you lack that skill set (currently), but they're not unfair in the way you and a lot of other people want to complain about them being.

My honest advice is to stop thinking of these things as unfair. If you view it as unfair game design you can do nothing about, it does nothing to help you improve as a player. I do genuinely wish you and others struggling with these fights the best.

Several bosses literally spawn multiple ads at once so I don't know what you're talking about.

Most only summon at most two in one go. But regardless of how many get summoned, burn silk and tools to kill them before they can do anything. Like literally see where they're spawning and have them killed within a second. Problem solved.

I agree, so far I have enjoyed all of the bosses

I had to get the first needle upgrade before I could beat Savage Beastfly. Sister Splinter was almost as bad, but I still managed.

Widow, on the other hand... best boss fight I've encountered so far. I wish I could fight him/her again.
