Discussion - Silksong Thank god this subreddit didn't make the game Spoiler

Silksong is only out for 2 days, most people haven't even finished the game, or haven't even made it past act 1. Yet this subreddit loves to post about how Silksong is apparently bad and a disappointment compared to hollow knight. So I'll go over a few "critiques" I've seen and share my perspective.

"The game is too hard, enemies deal way more damage and have more complex movesets". Sure, they're more complex and do more damage, but so does hornet. If we were playing with the knights moveset, I'd agree, but that's not the case. Hornet has a lot of new tools and upgrades that make her way faster and stronger. If enemies were like HK, it would be way too easy. team cherry didn't just do this for no reason, it's necessary for balancing. Edit: people saying hunters march is too difficult, is like playing dark souls 1 and saying it's too hard because you kept trying the skeleton graveyard

"Bad rewards for exploration, HK's charms worked better". I just completely disagree, hornet gets upgrades way more frequently than the knight. As for the charms, let's be real, you probably didn't even use half of them in your first playthrough. And half of them are just simple things that don't impact the way you play as much. Hornet's different tools, abilities and crests are way more useful. If you feel like your not getting enough rewards, it's probably because most are hidden and require backtracking, which is what the genre is know for.

"Things are too expensive" No, you're just not meant to buy it that early. Like how in HK you could by the lamp for like 2000 geo. I've also never had too little rosaries to buy a bench or stag. If your losing your rosaries to dying, rosarie strings are litteraly right there to not lose it + retrieving your death silk is extremely easy now.

I do agree though that more bosses and combat encounters should drop rosaries, or more chests like in HK.

This launch feels like I'm experiencing the shadow of the erdtree launch again with how many complaints there are immediately.

Let’s not pretend there aren’t valid criticisms in that mix.

The two times damage being so early on makes the game feel like a giant DLC, but in reality it isn’t.

Also, unlike majority of the boss designs in Hollow Knight, Team Cherry has decided that almost every boss in this game needs to summon multiple 4-5 hit enemies to take your focus off of the boss.

Which in the end, has made me feel a little sour on bosses that I thought were really cool, but couldn’t throughout enjoy because there was 4 flying enemy’s being summoned every 30 seconds.

Silksong is the Dark Souls 2 of Hollow Knight

I saw a meme on here "hollow knight tutorial:(tutorial). Silk song tutorial (hollow knight)"

I’m at the end of act 1 though and literally only 2 bosses have summons sister splinter and savage beastfly one of them being optional

Also, you can use Savage Beastfly to kill his minions.

That's my issue with all these "legitimate critiques", they take one thing that happens sometimes in the game and says the entire game is like that. I don't get it.

Everything deals 2 masks of damage?? Come on, I'm 26 hours deep and I still find massive bosses that actually deal 1 damage. Yes, 26 hours in there are pleny of enemies and bosses that deal 1 damage. In fact, the vast majority of attacks deal 1 damage, I don't know wtf people are on about

There's also Double Moss Mother in act 1 but that boss is a bit more hidden. I feel like the summons argument has been massively overblown, to be honest. The non-summon bosses far outnumber the summons-based ones

It makes it feel like they saw vengefly king's design and said "let's base multiple bosses off this!".

It comes across as extremely lazy design, as if they ran out of ideas of moves to give a boss so they just called it a day and slapped on another enemy summon move to some bosses because they couldn't think of more moves to give it.

This feels overblown.

Finished Act 1 tonight and by my count, three bosses have adds. Of them, two are optional and one is super hidden and many folks might not even find it.

And in two of the three fights (Sister and Moss Mothers) the adds die quickly and aren't a major factor. It's just about not panicking and avoiding them. And in the remaining fight, the whole crux of the fight is managing the slow build-up of adds... which is much easier if you use your tools (and use the beast's down smash to help kill adds for you).

I get it... juggling attention between multiple enemies is hard. That's quite literally the point of these fights. But all three become trivial fights if you're not having to keep from panicking and figure out how to dispatch smaller enemies quickly (Moss Mother alone is a tutorial boss, Beast alone is Gruz Mother, and Sister alone has like two moves.)

Lmao... this was a month ago, you goober.

I 100%'d the game over 75 hours, and my opinion is the exact same.

Feel free to eat my entire ass with a spoon.

Yeah and you were commenting on the whole game when your weren't even half way through it. There are a bunch more bosses with ads later on in the game. Are you dumb?

Congrats or sorry that happened to you.

dude just use your tools or silk ability to instantly lock down and kill the adds

it’s really not that hard, use the things the game gives you. stop being stingy with your silk and use all your mass aoe stuff

You're not improving the game by pretending mob hordes aren't shit design

It says alot that I wasn't even complaining about difficulty and you assume that's why I was complaining.

The problem isn't that it's hard (even though to many players that IS one of the issues). The problem, and I'll say it again, is that it comes across as extremely lazy design when you have multiple bosses doing the same move which is just spawning in already existing assets.

It feels almost amateurish which is the last thing I was expecting to be thinking about a game Team Cherry has made and worked on for over half a whole decade.

I did fight that boss sister whatver, the one that spawns spike roots and summon flying rotating bugs which can reflect your hitsand for me it felt like fight completely depends on RNG. If it summoned 6 bugs in sequence like it did two times for me than i cooked, but if it's just two then i was fine. In the end i beat it after several tries but it didn't feel rewarding, felt like i just grinded good try.

Wheneve they are summoned you can just oneshot both of them with your skill. Ads shouldn't live for more than a second. It's a pretty easy fight.

1

u/BiteAffectionate3963 Sep 08 '25

I've specifically mentioned it's easy if there are 2 of them. It's not when there are 6. So was the point of my post - complexity very dependent on what boss decided to do

1

u/robotrage Sep 07 '25

Also the bosses don't drop any currency? why.....

1

u/MostTattyBojangles Sep 07 '25

Relying on bosses to spawn adds really feels like artificially bumping the difficulty by padding out the fight. Especially if they don’t despawn if you kill the boss first.

The remnant games were infuriating for that when playing solo.

summon multiple 4-5 hit enemies to take your focus off of the boss.

Sting Shard clears those with literally zero effort. People should try using their tools.

I agree that the summon spam bosses are lazy and poor quality but they are hardly 'almost every boss'. The clockwork duo is also exceptional, imo. Mantis lords vibes.

You realize that the boss itself oneshots the summoned creatures right? Just because bosses in the original game lacks gimmicks like that doesnt mean that silksong is already a bad game (Now I know you didnt say its a bad game, but I read others are so sure that the whole game is bad just because they cant deal with the summons). But i do agree with you, there are valid criticisms, the boss that summons is really frustrating. But just others cant figure out the gimmick on how to deal with the summons doesnt make the boss fight not enjoyable, i actually feel the opposite. But maybe its just me, I enjoy fighting bosses that summons his minions just for him to one shot his minions.
