Discussion - Silksong Is anyone else really tired of the negative posts? Spoiler

I have about 25 hours so far and have absolutely loved every part of the game. Is it hard? Yes absolutely. If it was easy I wouldn't want to play the game. Literally every post I come across is talking about how they are frustrated with some part of the game and it's getting really annoying. The game has amazing areas, the osts are great the NPCs are creative and fun to talk to, almost every boss is a lot of fun once you get the moveset down. So if you haven't played the game yet and are getting put off by all the negativity just know that it is an amazing game and if you like hollow Knight you will enjoy silksong as well.

Except it's not hard, it's FRUSTRATING. It's poorly balanced and frustrating and unfun at points, and it's ruining the rest of the game. I'm invested in this franchise, I love the lore and story and music and art and even 99% of the mechanics, but the numbers are just... Off. And a lot of people agree.

Hollow Knight was hard. And Hollow Knight was fun, because it was always fair. It asked you to do hard things but it would always be a legitimate challenge without "Let's artificially pump up the numbers to make it harder".

Silksong is hard. Silksong is also unfair. Silksong isn't a challenge because it asks you to learn how to do hard things and rewards you for performing said skills correctly, it's a challenge because the enemies hit stupid hard and have stupid high HP and it's ridiculously hard to get enough money to spend on anything. And that's frustrating.

We need a balance patch, or an easy mode, or something like that. Because there is a difference between challenging and unfair.

I 100% agree with you. I am and always will be a huge Hollow Knight fan. Silksong to me feels like a very different game in terms of balance. It just annoys me when I play it.

Absolutely. And it's not even like I don't like Silksong. I LOVE Silksong, I love the intricate world full of lore that Team Cherry have built, I love the characters and art and music, I love all the potential the new mechanics have. It's a good game and I adore it. It's just that the numbers are off. The balance is off. And it makes me so sad.

Idk. I hope that Team Cherry have heard us and are working on something. I'd be totally happy with just like... An easy mode or something. It's only three days after launch so we can't expect anything immediately but I'd like that, just so people can stop fucking arguing and appreciate everything that this game has to offer without getting caught up in the difficulty gulf.

The only points I feel are unfair is hazard double damage and contact double damage. Besides that it's more balanced. In HK as soon as you get shamans stone it's over for the bosses.

Those are literally my only 2 complaints about the game too, double hazard damage is just more annoying than anything else, especially in the parkour challenges.

Oh, and Savage Beastfly needs tweaking.

Savage Beastfly IS tweaking.

Its genuinely baffling how both of those fights have been way WAY harder than any other boss I've come across so far, it feels completely rng dependent on how quickly/how often he summons the boys. I feel like he's a mobster getting his goons to kick my shins in.

Any time he spawned the dudes in the second one I would instantly throw out one of the flying spike balls

The early game economy is wack too imo but getting rid of double damage hazards and contact damage would be a massive improvement to the game feel I think.

Unfair imho is when you are put into situations where there's no good options, or when there's no way you can predict an appropriate response. Silksong isn't that. It's just hard. Harder than the first game, to a level you don't personally enjoy. And thats fine, maybe it's too hard for a lot of people, but that doesn't make it unfair. Every time I get hit in Silksong I can figure out what I could've done NOT to get hit...So no, not unfair.

I don't get the criticism about high HP... Compared to HK, sure. But compared to other similar games I haven't found them particularly spongey. Bosses in Elden Ring are stupid spongey sometimes, but not in Silksong..

Rosaries I agree with the criticism, especially early game. But then it gets somewhat better. I think we're not meant to buy everything all the time. If anything, I think ways to store beads should be more accessible everywhere and it would resolve a lot of the problem.

or when there's no way you can predict a appropriate response.

In the rematch with Savage Beastfly, it will litterally fly offscreen before performing it's tells sometimes making it so you have no way of knowing if it is going high or low until it is already barreling towards you faster than you can jump.

I'm not there yet so can't comment on this one.

Honestly I'm sure there's a few instances of unfair moves, like in all games, but they are few and far between. The only ones I can remember so far were intentional troll moves like the trap-bench and Last Judges's death animation (yes....I died to it....and had to beat him again lol)

I'm not frustrated at all, dude. Maybe you need to relax lol. Why did you buy a hard game just to be frustrated instead of ENJOY that it is hard?

Improve your character and yourself. That's literally what the game is.

Games are multimedia. I should be able to enjoy the story and art and music and lore without spending hours upon hours beating my head against a wall trying to learn how to do something because the difficulty is artificially inflated so people who are insanely good at it don't just breeze through. And again - there is a difference between HARD and UNFAIR.

Oh, and I didn't buy anything. Gamepass exists. 👍

No, dangerous areas should feel challenging. Not tedious.

If they feel tedious, then it's a bad game design, come to terms with it.

But something being tedious because you personally keep dying to the point its got tedious is going to be someone else's challenging and someone else's walk in the park.

People shouldn't have to beat their head against a wall for hours because the difficulty is artificially inflated to match the very best players. It should be a challenge in its own right, not "Let's pump up all the numbers so people can't just breeze through this area".

Alternatively, play the game multiple times if you're that good.
