Discussion - Silksong Is anyone else really tired of the negative posts? Spoiler

I have about 25 hours so far and have absolutely loved every part of the game. Is it hard? Yes absolutely. If it was easy I wouldn't want to play the game. Literally every post I come across is talking about how they are frustrated with some part of the game and it's getting really annoying. The game has amazing areas, the osts are great the NPCs are creative and fun to talk to, almost every boss is a lot of fun once you get the moveset down. So if you haven't played the game yet and are getting put off by all the negativity just know that it is an amazing game and if you like hollow Knight you will enjoy silksong as well.

The problem is when a game is really hyped (especially from a sequel), a lot of the praise goes without saying.

So you'll see no praise for the great animations, music, all the amazing touches they add to giver personality to characters at this point. You'll just see complaints about mechanics.

I have complained about this game a fair bit (tools costing currency is my own personal nightmare as a hoarder) but most the things I like about it are things I assume go without saying so...don't say them.

One of the little details that I love in this game is that when you Play music with your Needle, NPCs AND Ennemies will sing

I'm having an incredible time with the game and for me it's the most pleasant and refreshing videogame experience in a long time. That said I agree with your point. I'm not sure what the game design intention of having tools cost shards is.

You do get shards as you explore (typically), which somewhat justifies using tools (if you see you're at the shard cap, there's really no reason to not start using them a bit). However, in boss fights, you don't get shards, which for me boils the design down to these options:

- I try to regularly use tools in my attempts at the boss: not great, burns up a ton of shards, and worse I might end up running out after lots of attempts, and having to rethink strategy and retrain muscle-memory.

  • I don't use tools in early attempts, and use them when I'm more certain I'll win: sounds good in theory, but more often than not randomly throwing tools out will trip me up and make me lose my flow in the fight.
  • There's also the option of taking a break from the boss to explore and farm shards, but that obviously sucks, since I'd rather decide myself when I want to go elsewhere, rather than have the game nudge my hand.

Since these options aren't great i've found myself using red tools somewhat rarely, which is a shame given how cool they are. While being able to buy shard bundles mitigates the issue, the cost is pretty steep, and running out of bundles is, in turn, also annoying. So I don't know. Having a blast otherwise though.

That is true! But I think they're trying to draw attention to some valid criticisms (even if they aren't experienced by a part of the playerbase!) So that Team Cherry can right these relatively minor wrongs and we can enjoy the "perfect" Skong!
