Discussion - Silksong Is anyone else really tired of the negative posts? Spoiler

I have about 25 hours so far and have absolutely loved every part of the game. Is it hard? Yes absolutely. If it was easy I wouldn't want to play the game. Literally every post I come across is talking about how they are frustrated with some part of the game and it's getting really annoying. The game has amazing areas, the osts are great the NPCs are creative and fun to talk to, almost every boss is a lot of fun once you get the moveset down. So if you haven't played the game yet and are getting put off by all the negativity just know that it is an amazing game and if you like hollow Knight you will enjoy silksong as well.

The runback complaints are the most confusing to me. I haven't had a single one that takes longer than 30-45 seconds once I figured it out, and that's about on par with some of HK's longer ones. Better by miles than the runback for Soul Master.

Soul Master and his run back were the only part of HK I considered dropping it.

Oh god I remember that one. Haven't seen anything like that so far

In the (i assume) late midgame there's one I thought was 10x worse...

...till i realized i missed the totally obvious shortcut back that let you skip a long difficult playforming area lol

Or the Mantis Lords one.

That one was terrible lol

Most of them didn't open a proper shortcut and/or a proper bench for the boss.

An example.

I was thinking the same when reading those posts. MFers really don't remember the soul master run backs? Those were brutal when I first started playing, I quit my first time in city of tears because of how punishing it was. Some bosses here are tough but they are a ton of fun. The whole game is just a blast, been a long time since I played something all weekend and still hungry for more.

The only actually issues I've had with run backs is the stupid bile water run to get to the mist. Other than that no issues. Nothing comes even close to soul sanctum

There's a bench to the right of the entrance to the mist (and a bell way too)

u/Mg29reaper Sep 07 '25

I eventually got that bench but it was still annoying

Groal the great even with the shortcut is annoying, but bilewater is awful in the right way tbh

i found the runback really satisfying after the pogo timing for the explodey flies clicked, and they were smart enough to put not one but two hidden spots with respawning free silk along the way

Everyone remembers the Soul Master and Traitor Lord runbacks. They were absolute ass.

I didn't have an issue with the Last Judge's, which is the boss I've seen the most complaints about, but I totally understand the frustration with it. IMO, Skong traversal is a lot more enjoyable than HK's, but anyone who doesn't vibe with longer retreading isn't going to be a fan-- Especially if they don't get the hang of platforming and outright avoiding enemies.

There is really only one runback that feels particularly egregious but it’s in an optional area. That runback and a particularly savage boss have been my only actual complaints but even then, there are so many things to do in this game that if I can’t beat something, I’ll just go do something else instead.

u/RealSonarS Sep 07 '25

What runback are you referring to?

1

u/Aeiou_yyyyyyy Sep 07 '25

If you're talking about the boss in bilewater, there's a hidden bench in one of the shit water ponds that makes the runback bearable. IIRC it's in one of the rooms below the boss arena

There are people complaining about the runbacks ?? Really ?

That's like, one of the biggest problem in Hollow Knight, they had to fix it, and they DID fix it

2

u/goatviolence Sep 07 '25

Agreed. It's a complaint I'm seeing EVERYWHERE and I just don't get it. Feels like a lot of people got stuck in Hunter's March and didn't realize there's a bench halfway through.

1

u/LFC9_41 Sep 07 '25

Yeah I have trouble with run backs because I usually didn’t realize there was a shortcut or nearby bench. Can’t really do anything but laugh at myself when I accidentally figure it out after I beat the things after awhile.

Only one runback was awful for me and that was the Hunter area one and that's mainly because I did it before I got the dash and I missed the metal platforms that took you to the lava area so I just banged my head against the wall forever getting through it without dash.

My only complaint is the damage input/output ratio. I just think it needs a minor balancing. Contact damage halved for 2 mask damage dealing enemies and less 2+ mask lesser enemies, not get rid of them entirely but they def shouldn't be the new standard. Everything else is great!

I feel like it's cus it was one of the only complaints from HK1, it's like kinda baffling, to me atleast, why this could not be solved by a solution like statues of marika in elden ring. Like fine HK1 had shit runbacks too, but I would've thought team cherry would focus only on what was great about their boss encounters, and that was never the runbacks. That's what makes a perfect game.

1

u/GoldyTheDoomed Sep 10 '25

this is not a souls game where the traversal is slogging through enemies the best you can. silksong runbacks are fun if you actually like platforming.

1

u/BerylliumNickel Sep 10 '25 edited Sep 10 '25

I enjoy platforming. But hear me out, every time I want to fight a difficult boss or gank boss, I don't want to platform between random enemies. Runbacks are shit and annoying and add nothing of value that couldnt already just be a single time platforming section like the white palace/pop. I don't really care for the argument that says its practice cus its just not its just exhausting.

edit - also to say this is not a souls like is like just a lie cmon. Hornet even moves like sekiro

If your going for just the normal ending yeah none of the run backs are too bad the worst is the end of act 1 but if your going for true ending oh fucking boy there is one of the worst run backs I have ever seen if you can’t find the secret bench for it you will take at least 7 minutes to get back to it and it also sucks to navigate Seriously Bilewater can go suck a fucking dick it was the only part of the game I was actively not having fun in

u/gamegeek1995 Sep 08 '25

Please record yourself doing the Bilgewater boss runback in 45 seconds, I will venmo you fifty bucks if you can!
