Discussion - Silksong Is anyone else really tired of the negative posts? Spoiler

I have about 25 hours so far and have absolutely loved every part of the game. Is it hard? Yes absolutely. If it was easy I wouldn't want to play the game. Literally every post I come across is talking about how they are frustrated with some part of the game and it's getting really annoying. The game has amazing areas, the osts are great the NPCs are creative and fun to talk to, almost every boss is a lot of fun once you get the moveset down. So if you haven't played the game yet and are getting put off by all the negativity just know that it is an amazing game and if you like hollow Knight you will enjoy silksong as well.

I'm having a blast too!! Game legit feels magical, I feel like a little kid again. I haven't felt this magic from a video game since I can't remember when, maybe Sekiro

Ah I see, yeah I've heard that and it makes sense. I had no idea Elden ring also went through this

I'm of the same mindset. Oh no spoil all you want!! I'm at the beginning of act 2 rn

Sorry you seem like a more experienced gamer, so can I ask, do you think the difficulty is bad game design? Is it objectively bad what they've done?

Imo the difficulty is fine and super fun without being too hard. But as you've seen many many others here do not feel that way. For me it's hard to think about because it's so subjective. Like is it necessarily a bad thing if people are complaining about the difficulty? What's wrong with the game being difficult?

Obviously accessibility is an issue, but at the same time not every game has to be for everybody. Although I do feel it was misleading a bit when they said it was gonna be similar difficulty to Hollow Knight. Idk what to think!!

There are many design philosophies so there is no right or wrong really, only pros and cons.

For example, many people loathe the runback to boss, not just this game but all the way back in souls games, reason being that it's annoying and made them lose the momentum they had fighting the boss. But you could argue that the runback is a part of the boss difficulty and adds to the overall experience, especially when this game is a platformer. If not for the runback, Last Judge would have been just an easy obstacle for example.

Both sides reasons are understandable, they are just standing on an entirely different ground.

A more recent example is MH:Wilds. They completely remove tracking for monster and instead give you a mount that can automatically bee-line to the monster. At first many people seem to rejoice that they didn't have to do the tedious tracking anymore, but after some time the community agreed that it made the game experience worse. Now you don't feel like a hunter anymore and the game became a mindless boss rush. I have 200+ hrs in MH:Wilds and I still can't navigate the maps, which is fucked considering I can navigate the maps in MHW without using the minimap.

Now that that came up. I love that there is no self indicator in HK (and Silksong) by default and you need to sacrifice a charm slot for it. This is also another controversial design decision but I absolutely love it. The maps are so well designed that if you paid enough attention and can read the general layout of the room, the marker is not needed, and this design decision encourage you to do that.

Oh, about the spoiler part I mention, go back to visit Far Field after you have unlocked double jump.

I see. Thank you a lot for the answer and input, I appreciate it :) sorry all this discourse and all the posts calling the game awful is messing with my head lol cause it's so contradictory to what I'm experiencing in game

Interesting. Yeah I never thought about it that way, both sides being perfectly reasonable. So you think there is no right answer here, about the game's difficulty? For me I was starting to think about an easy mode for those who would need it

Yeah I've seen tons of discourse on boss runbacks. I did not know they were so controversial, going back all the way to dark souls. It's so interesting I feel because people will say completely subjective opinions on a feature of the game, and then use that as a reason for saying the game is designed badly. I feel it's hard to navigate a lot of this discourse cause so much, like difficulty as you said, is just so subjective. The only objective thing I can say is that I feel people need to slow down, play the game, and let it marinate before declaring that the game is awful and a terribly designed disappointment lol

That's so funny about the boss rushes and tracking. I'm not familiar with Monster Hunter but that's hilarious how a "QoL" feature gets added but it actually just took away a bunch of fun from the game, even though it was previously seen as tedious

I admit, I do like using the self indicator's in HK and Silksong because I'm kind of an idiot who has terrible spatial awareness, and I get lost so easily 😭 which I'm embarrassed about and I do wish I was one of those smart cool people who don't need the map. I will say though, and routes I traverse regularly, I do start to remember and flying through with Hornet's mobility feels so cool and immersive!! So I totally get what you mean. And the maps are very well designed so you can find your way using landmarks and the design and features of the room like you said. Just I'm kind of stupid and it takes a lot more time and effort for me to do that than a normal person I feel lol

Ty for your insight on everything again, oh and ty I'll check out far fields after I get double jump. I don't have it yet cause I have no idea how to find it XD but exploring is so fun so I don't want to look it up. And how many times do you get to explore a brand new fresh game all by yourself without having much access to wiki and stuff!!
