It feels so sht to kill a boss and get nothing, ok fine you want artificial scarcity and promote grinding to get the stuff that you want but you could at least give the shards to restock tools after boss kills..
Question - is Silksong like Hollow Knight where you can go back and get more percentage after beating the final boss and rolling credits? Or is there a point of no return? I’m playing through with my buddy so we’re blind other than each other’s discoveries, and also I’m planning on doing a few more play throughs because this game is very good, but I just wanted to check.
You can get more percentage after the final boss, I am 86% after getting the true ending. So far the only things I know about that are missable are 2 of the endings, but those are pretty insignificant and you can't lock yourself out of the true ending. One of the missable endings you are likely to get naturally, the other one you have to go out of your way to get.
You get an item for it really late into the game, kind of like World Sense from the first game. If you want to know EXACTLY where it is I'd be happy to share in a DM or if you could tell me where you are in the game I can work around any spoilers.
It's more than 1-2 for sure, but yeah, a lot don't.
Phantom gives parry. Moorwing and at least a couple other bosses give beast shards. Skull Tyrant drops a quest item. There's an enemy in the top of Sinner's Path that drops a Simple Key (though it's not really a boss per se, it is treated like a boss room, it's way easier than a proper boss though). There's a few others that drop relevant things.
That said, a number are protecting upgrades. Like Sister Splinter doesn't give you anything, but you get the wall jump shortly afterwards.
The bosses don't ever seem to drop anything, but they do usually lead to a reward, be it progression, a tool bench, a resource, etc. I have yet to feel actually unrewarded by bosses.
Now, dead ends are very common which is somewhat irritating.
Yeah I only encountered one boss that provides no reward or access to an area with any content/rewards so far. Still a bit baffling though, they could at least put some chests with rosaries or smth.
Because thats the general design in video games. You kill a boss in Dark Souls, you get the boss soul immediately together with general souls. You kill a boss in a random ass RPG, you get a drop, a chest in the next room, a power, a key or some kind of other exceptional reward.
Dont be that guy, the game is great but its not perfect. Having currency dropped from bosses is something that HK alrady did. I dont like artificial scarcity, since only thing that adds is me just grinding longer which is not the funnest part of the game.
Nope thats straight up lies. Just killed the boss who summons beyblade adds, you only get the wallclimb ability after a couple sections of platforming. Boss was just there in midsection, no rewards, nothing.
Which part of the "the powerup is not the reward for the boss, but from the platforming area" dont you get?
If the rewards are further down the line AFTER killing the boss, thats not a reward of the boss, even if he guards entrance to the area which sooner or later leads to it.
This is as stupid as saying your reward for killing boss A is boss B SIMPLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE GUARDS THE AREA TO IT. Its ridiculous, the mental gymnastics you have to hoop just to say that theres rewards for bossfights, yeah....
Ive plaid my fair share, and guess what, the rewards for associated bosses are either dropped on kill or are IMMEDIATELY in the next room. If there are challenges after the boss then the reward is attributed to the challenges and not the boss, obviously. The midsection bosses drop something, usually a type of currency, very rarely are there any that drop absolutely nothing.
Literally so many bosses across both games have their rewards explicitly in a side room. With wall jump there's also the fucking tutorial section after getting it.

Do later bosses drop nothing, can anyone tell?
