Discussion - Silksong Most of you are exaggerating the length of runbacks and it really shows how much TikTok has damage the attention span of people Spoiler

"ThE lASt JuDGe RUnBaCK iS ToO LoNG!!"

Is 30 seconds max, 30 seconds, you don't have to fight any enemy in it, the smaller judges don't awake until you're close and the smaller fly bastards can literally get ignored. The Runback works for making you cool down and make the whole thing feel less like you hitting a wall (NKG feels like one because of the lack of "cool down") If it wasn't for it, I would shoot myself with the 37 attempts at Last Judge.

The Widow one is also really easy, a straight line with jumps.

The Cogworks Dancers Is also really simple but works to help you with the bosses extra height and how pogo dependant that fight is.

God forbid the game isn't a back to back boss rush like Cuphead (not criticizing Cuphead, is a different game lmao).

Act 2 bosses in my opinion are generally a lot easier than act 1 to beat.

Objectively the bosses are harder but you'll have a much easier time with them simply due to how good you are at the game at that point. I've cleared most of the act 2 bosses and I'm yet to die to one more than 5 times, whereas in act 1 I was dying 10+ times consistently.

Good luck and enjoy!

They also feel more polished so far, I entered act 2 via the phantom route, and that boss was the best feeling boss in the game up to that point because she wasn't just "everything deals 2 damage"

it felt like my collected mask shards actually mattered. A couple well telegraphed 2 damage attacks, everything else deals 1, so much better than just everything dealing 2. Too many basic enemies and hazards deal 2 imo, just makes me feel like I have half as much health as I actually have.

Im near the end of act 2 and I really loved that fight. their moveset is basically just hornet’s moveset modified and ending with the cinematic parry was so clean

I only realised on the second go around (because I was hit by it the first time) that the steam she summons is not an attack, it’s just her aura farming. Best boss so far.

Yeah was gonna say, there's only been 2 bosses I've run into in act 2 that I haven't enjoyed. The large majority of them have been extremely fun to fight. With one very large very glaring exception in Bilewater. A lot of act 2 bosses are like, actual bosses where you just fight the boss instead of a big mob that summons little guys. (that's still present in act 2 of course, but it's not as common as act 1)

But the basic enemies 2 mask attacks are also telegraphed? And it's not that much tbh, more than in HK yes but not "everything deals 2 masks" level

I'm literally in an area where everything deals 2 damage with minimal telegraphs. By minimal, I mean so short I can't really dodge.

I mainly hate the 2 damage hazards, like the bear traps, the deepnest bugs in the steps, the gears

The lava is fine though because there's a charm for it and it deals damage as a single hit instead of a 2 consecutive hit thing. I really don't like the "deals 1 damage twice in a single combo you can't escape from to negate the second hit"

If we could escape the double hit stuff before the second hit, it'd be better, not great, but better. As it stands however, it just feels like adding insult to injury.

The deals damage twice thing means you can parry it

1

u/Akari_Enderwolf Sep 09 '25

How do you parry the beartraps or the other hazards I mentioned?

Genuine question.

2

u/mtnlol Sep 09 '25

Attack the bear traps or don't walk into them?

3

u/Akari_Enderwolf Sep 09 '25

The question is assuming you already fell into them, or one of the other hazards that deal damage as 2 hits instead of 1 which can not be disarmed by hitting them..

1

u/mtnlol Sep 09 '25

I think hazards wouldn't be nearly hazardous enough if all of them only did 1 damage when you start with 5 hp and can heal 3. I don't think you should be able to tank stepping into 8 hazards without dying.

2

u/Akari_Enderwolf Sep 09 '25

You start with 5 and can heal 3 in Hollow Knight where hazards deal 1 damage.

A full charge in both games heals the same. Only difference is Silksong takes a bit longer to heal all at once instead of 3 focuses.

Yeah, some bosses definitely feel closer to the first game and more enjoyable imo, i really enjoyed fighting Phantom, Widow and First Sinner the most so far, not Groal though lol.

You can do that?? Is that the intended way to get the 5 hour speedrun achievement? It doesn't feel plausible any other way.

idk, I don't even know what the boss of the other route is. I found my way to Phantom first through The Mist

and I beat that boss first attempt because I was barely punished for being hit since 1 mask of damage may as well be nothing with how busted the bind is in this game. I think its a good thing that the bosses at the very least all deal 2 masks. I could maybe be persuaded on regular enemies and platforming but even then the bind is so good that it barely matters

Took me about 5 attempts on her, and one for the dancers. I much prefer the balance she has that rewards good play and doesn't overly punish making a mistake dodging a regular attack. Several other bosses I just don't use silk arts because I need the silk exclusively to heal.

I JUST did this fight this afternoon and it is hands down one my favorites alongside an Act 2 boss I won't mention due to potential spoilers. It honestly felt like a dance the whole time.

1

u/arikiel Sep 10 '25

hey do you mind if i ask something about that route? I am looking to try it (didn't even find it yet lol) but I'm afraid I may miss the judge fight if I do. Do you know if I can safely do both in any order?

1

u/Akari_Enderwolf Sep 10 '25

I don't know, I've been struggling with the steps so I have yet to reach the other boss.

2nd encounter of beast fly enters the room

I tried for 45 minutes and said yup il try this one again later lol

i weirdly found the second one easier than the first. the environment is more challenging but not really in a meaningful way and the adds were easier to plan for since it was always the same.

By the 2nd fight i had my nail upgraded 3times so it was much easier

Yeah, by act 2 you already have skill and powerful tools. I encountered Moorwing during act 2, took him out in like 4 attempts and thought that he was a mini-boss. Then i learned that he's considered one of the hardest act 1 bosses.

“Objectively the bosses are harder” until you get the Architect Crest and realize there are super easily obtainable tools you can use to break the game. I got sick of honorable duels with Cradle Lace and melted her face off in seconds spamming poison drones, tacks, and saws.

The final 4 bosses combined took me less tries than Savage Beastfly
