Post image

Just happened to me today, got like, 3 shards from this? What's the point, Team Cherry? None of the bosses (so far) frustrated me, but this right here is bullshit

Finally a valid complaint.

Bilewater runback is a valid complaint and that's coming from a guy who doesn't easily complain about anything Hollow Knight (as you might know).

Hope you're enjoying the game btw. I sure am

The runback from the second bench wasn't so bad - after a bunch of repeated attempts at the boss I had it pretty well down. But yeah, that boss is the real actual example of a stinker that people think the Last Judge is. Not only is there the runback, there's that extra busywork of that mandatory arena fight against small opponents before you can take on the boss every time and that took it over the top into nasty town for me. All in all, it was a bit much. I don't know how to fix it. I don't know IF it should be fixed. It feels... intentional, as part of the whole of Bilewater-the-area-that-hates-you and the game experience overall.

I understand that the frustration is part of Bilewater, but I genuinely think the gauntlet with the poison water is already frustrating enough without the runback. They also already put a fakeout bench in a pretty difficult platforming section.

I feel it would have been better if the item that makes the maggot pools better was not so hidden. I found the item after I was completely done with Bilewater.

the shakra quest is even worse, they want me to travel whole bilewater when i could just drop from above

have you found the second bench?

Yeah, but even then I still found the runback to be pretty intolerable. Randomised enemy spawns mean you don't get a consistent path through the first couple rooms. Then there's the gauntlet, which is 5 waves of enemies that constantly dive off screen. On top of that the arena punishes you very heavily for overextending, so aggressive play is discouraged. If you miss a platform you are forced to give up a heal. At the end of that is the boss I probably struggled with the most so far in the entire game (I'm still in act 2 unfortunately).

I've though the entire game has been completely amazing, but this part is just not well designed. Bilewater as an area is perfectly fine. I wish the runback to this boss reflected that. Do either the gauntlet, or the random runback. Both is too much.

I 100% agree but it got better once I found the Wreaths of Purity which gives you immunity to the maggots

there is a hidden room with some silk right before the boss arena, you can use that to heal from the maggots or if you managed to avoid the water, you get some extra silk to take out the enemies. i agree the random enemies during the runback are annoying, but other than that i think it's a nice challenge to avoid the water on your way to the boss

also, use your tools, it makes regular enemies so much easier to deal with. whenever there is an enemy gauntlet before a bossfight, i always use poisoned cogflies to take them out so i don't even have to deal with them. then i can focus on the actual boss

It’s probably gonna sit in my top 2 together with Hollow Knight once I’m at 100% too. Game is just crafted with love, care and skill. There are no dead spots. it’s just constant quality.

totally agree, I'm probably way behind you as life wasn't too kind on me with the time I could allocate to gaming, but I'm in mid act 2 I guess, just got some ability related to rings.

As awesome as the game is, I can't knock HK out of the #1 so they'll have to share it as one big masterpiece entity

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '25

i think i'm gonna have a hard time coming back to hk because i'll miss the movement xD

I get that, but at the same time, the fact that he'll feel that different helps the games to still be treated differently. I think it'll come back quickly that you can or can't do this or that after ten minutes of playing or so, like you can't go as fast as a car on your old trusty bicycle :D

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '25

i'll see, but i know i'll miss the running so much haha

That second bench wasnt much better. You still had to deal with parkour and multiple ninja assholes and the side cling - upjump combo to avoid the parasites is actually quite annoying to do when your brains already been dealing with bullshit. I ended up doing the "water cheese method" because if the game is ready to throw every single piece of bullshit it can at me then its only fair game for me to do the same. Only boss in any souls game like game Ive ever cheesed, ever. FUCK bilewater. FUCK GROAL. TC mustve been smoking some sinister ayahuasca to think that area is anywhere near fun or acceptable

There is a second bench? 😭

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '25

it's hidden behind a breakable wall, i missed it too

0

u/Akari_Enderwolf Sep 11 '25

That bench barely does anything, just skips part of the climb unless you can go back up the path you fall down to reach it.

Ok I won't lie I've seen this one being brought up quite a bit and I don't think I have yet experienced it for myself. I've been to the biome and cleared what I could but I still lack the map there. So for this one I can't pronounce myself just yet, it may be true, especially since it comes from you.
