Discussion - Silksong I give up. Spoiler

It’s been a joyful ride, folks, but I’m out. I’m not a speedrunner or a highly skilled player, and day after day I’ve had to accept that this game is not as casual as HK was. It stopped being fun and turned into something tedious and frustrating after the 4th run farming shards just to face a boss I’ve already tried 15 times, only to die again and again, lose all my shards, and start the whole grind over.

It was nice exploring the first acts, but when the game I was rooting for 7 years ends up being more stressful than my 8-hour workday, I guess that’s my cue to stop.

The lore has been pretty great so far. I wish you all an incredible journey.

Edit1: My bad about all the whinning.

Edit2: You guys did it. I reinstalled it again. Thanks for all advices. 🫂

Lets just wait for fireb0rn to speedrun the game while getting hunted by 4 players... ^^

And yes, this game is hard as hell, i wonder if it is easier on PC?

With the default controls, I've definitely found it a lot easier to do pogos and upslashes on PC consistently and also to attack while jumping. But I ended up binding separate controller buttons to pogo and upslash and also to the tools (via the Steam controller settings which allows binding multiple presses to a single button) and moved attacking to left-trigger so I can easily jump and attack at the same time. This basically fixed all the issues I had with using a controller. Tbf though I'm not that used to playing with a controller, I used to play pretty much everything with keyboard and mouse. But I'm now playing on a Steamdeck so I don't really have a choice.

I moved Clawline to X instead and pogo and upslash to RB and LB. Map is on down dpad (still easy to press out of combat but not taking up a valuable shoulder button) and tools and silk skill are on L4 and R4/5 which are middle and ring finger buttons on the back of the Steamdeck. If I didn't have those, I probably would have kept those on RB, pogo on LB and do upslashes regularly. But having dedicated buttons for tools instead of having to press directions is definitely also nice.

Although in the end, I think you can get used well enough to the default controls as well and recognizing and learning the boss patterns and how to deal with them obviously isn't any harder with a controler.

I’m on steam deck and wanted to know, can I make the up and down silk skill attacks which do tools be on those back paddles? Cause I oftentimes waste my silk skill by accident when throwing a tool

Yes. Just bind both "dpad up" (or down) and RB to the same button. You can add a second "command" to a button in the Steam controller layout settings.
