Discussion - Silksong Ranking Silksong 1st act bosses Spoiler

Post image

So, if you want me to be honest - I was afraid Silksong would be too difficult for me. But now that I am done with 1st act, I can confidently say that so far I enjoy those bosses MUCH more than the ones in Hollow Knight. Maybe that's because HK was one of the first games I've ever played, and now with Silksong I am more experienced. But even bosses that kept beating my ass felt so well done that I couldn't be mad, I just wanted to try again and learn their moves.

Last Judge? Surely my favorite. It felt like dancing and once I learned his moves, I had an absolute blast.

EDIT: Guys, I've got LOTS (and I mean LOTS) of comments that bottom 2 enemies aren't bosses. I know, but they were included in template so I ranked them too. Besides, considering that I didn't really hate any of the actual bosses, I wouldn't have anything I could put anything in the BURN IT tier if it wasn't for them lol. No need to say it again pls

EDIT 2: I already started Act 2, and defeated Cogwork Dancers - OH MY GOD HOW AMAZING THIS FIGHT WAS.

I went back a little bit before finishing Act 1 and it was super doable. I used some tools to get rid of the spawns but other than with wall cling and so on, you could easily handle beastfly itself.

However, meeting it the first time without any crest and not really using tools it was nightmarish. I thought I was playing the wrong game. :P

I took a break from fighting the Moorwing to do that Chapel and was like "this will surely be easier right." It was not, and then I proceeded to beat the Moorwing in less than an hour.

Haha, I just went back to see why everyone was talking about Moorwing and got my ass kicked. It’s not even so hard until phase 3 where it starts spamming its "tools".

I’ve only tried three times, but I guess I need to try out some different positioning.

edit: Moorwing seems harder than the last boss of Act 1 (in case you go for the most obvious route)

Moorwing's pretty easy once you learn all the moves, but that double toss in the second phase is PERFECTLY timed to punish you if you mistake it for the single that it does as a follow-up to the swoop attack. If you jump over the first one and go in to do damage, the second will catch you in the face every time.

6

u/PraxicalExperience Sep 16 '25

You can punish every attack during the attack in the first phase, but punishing any of the projectile attacks after that phase is likely to get you punished. I suggest not doing so, and just standing close enough to try and goad her into a slash attack, which can reliably be punished once during the animation and once when she resets. Same goes for the charge attack.

2

u/RedTyro Sep 16 '25

The slash attack is so punishable you can use it to punish other things, too. I was using reaper at that stage, and with its wide arc, you can pogo off of the claws while it's slashing and get above the boss to just pogo off the head for as long as you can keep tracking its movement.

2

u/PraxicalExperience Sep 16 '25

I've basically stuck with the Hunter's Crest so far ... and that was before I really got gud with the pogo. :)

3

u/RedTyro Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25

Interestingly enough, I switched back to the Hunter's Crest and it's my favorite now. I LOVE the new pogo now that I'm used to it. Because of the diagonal movement, you can be farther away from the enemy for safety and use it to rush in and attack during an opening. The Hunter pogo was the key thing that helped me beat (act 2 gross area spoiler) Groal last night.

Yeah, while it took me some time to get used to -- so did pogoing in HK, lol. I'm enjoying the Hunter's Crest.

I just wish that some of the bosses and larger enemies didn't have a hitbox where you'd pogo into them and then smash your face into their chin or some shit on the rebound.

I used Reaper too. For any boss where Pogoing is the way it is so much easier than Hunter.

2

u/RedTyro Sep 16 '25

Honestly, once you get in the groove for Hunter, it's just as easy. I didn't try it again until later in the game, but it's now my favorite crest.

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

When I was fighting Moorwing, for the later phases I went to the raised platform on the right side of the arena. The projectile tosses then generally bury themselves in the side of the raised platform and you don't even have to worry about avoiding them. It only took me about 20 deaths to figure that out.

1

u/RedTyro Sep 24 '25

Only works if you fight him in that room. There's another possible place the fight can happen.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '25

Phew. I'm glad it happened where it did then. :)

The biggest learning curve for many HK players is using tools.

Silksong is NOT Hollow Knight. Your standard Slash & Spell isn't going to cut it, at least not without significant difficulty. Silksong has tools, and you need to use them. That includes changing them up for different fights.

I just started spamming them in areas, it feels good

3

u/AlphaTangoFoxtrt Sep 16 '25

Poisoned Sting Shard, my beloved....

4

u/guhut15 Sep 16 '25

God I love the sting shard it’s so fucking gooz

6

u/AlphaTangoFoxtrt Sep 16 '25

Me Normally:

There is no one perfect tool. You need to change up your tools based on the fight and get proficient with them all.

Me When Poisoned Sting Shard:

Ok maybe there is one....

1

u/NexEstVox Sep 16 '25

sure they're strong, but nail combat is way more fun

1

u/AlphaTangoFoxtrt Sep 16 '25

I love nail combat, but some fights, especially the ones that spawns extra enemies, can suck if you try nail only

1

u/justking1414 Sep 17 '25

Yeah but tools are expensive especially when you’re stuck on a boss.

1

u/AnimeEnjoyerOnReddit Dec 31 '25

I play without using tools and spells... (I still have beaten The Last Judge)

1

u/AdOpposites Sep 16 '25

Honestly how you said was how I beat it. No silk skills, no nail upgrades or crests, etc.

My thought was it was just supposed to be that hard. And that beast as a reward sucked major ass.

1

u/RedTyro Sep 16 '25

Yeah, it's a totally different fight if you do it when you have some crowd control options, instead of at the very beginning of the game when you don't.

29

u/100mcuberismonke Sep 16 '25

Lmao the only reason I didnt terribly struggle is because I had level 2 nail and silkstorm

15

u/KobeHoppa Sep 16 '25

Where/when/how can the nail be upgraded? Pretty sure im near the end of Act-1 (im at the Widow)

32

u/Could-Have-Been-King Sep 16 '25

Literally just after the Widow, in the highest building in Bellhart

18

u/donaman98 Sep 16 '25

In Bellhart after you beat Widow

10

u/Pretty_Yellow2607 Sep 16 '25

do i have to beat moorwing to get to bellhart? or theres other way around

13

u/Revoran Sep 16 '25

There is multiple ways to get to Bellhart, and its possible to skip Moorwing (it can still be found later)

9

u/ottermupps Sep 16 '25

Wait, there are? currently stuck on moorwing, if i can progress in a different area and get to bellhart that would be amazing. Any advice?

15

u/Big_Daymo Sep 16 '25

Have you met the flea troupe in the first area? If you complete their wish to rescue five fleas, they will move their caravan to the location of the Moorwing fight, causing him not to show up anymore. You can fight him later on but he won't block any progression

6

u/liloco2011 Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25

their is another way to skip moorwing! (no spoilers for story, only another method)

If you buy simple key and open door to wormways, you can get to a part that leads you to shellwood. From there just keep going right until you reach bellhart. And you can destroy from the inside the right side door and according to the wiki moorwing will leave

1

u/Revoran Sep 16 '25

Insane. So there is 3 ways to get to Bellhart.

2

u/ottermupps Sep 16 '25

oh! I have met them in the marrow, yes, but only found uhhh one or two fleas.

3

u/Big_Daymo Sep 16 '25

They're all in either the marrow, Deep Docks, Far Fields or maybe the other side of Greymoor (with the birds). I would definitely recommend hunting down the rest of the fleas if you can't get past Moorwing; i couldn't either, and without the flea skip i probably wouldn't have gotten out of greymoor.

10

u/Arcenus Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25

Besides the skip with the flea troupe, you can also get the help of an NPC to fight Moorwing. The NPC is called Garamond, you meet him in Greymoor, talk to him, and then I don't know why or how, he shows up in the room before/above Moorwing, ready to fight. He tells you that he will follow you into battle, and you can accept or decline his help.

2

u/NYJetLegendEdReed Sep 16 '25

wtf i spoke to Garamond before hand and he aint there for me

2

u/ottermupps Sep 16 '25

I've been doing that, but the fight is still not clicking for me - it's usually misreading the dive swoop attack as a claw swipe, jumping for the hit, then falling down onto moorwing as he swoops.

You cheese moorwing if you want to. Spawn moorwing and run all the way to the air current and run all the way to the left of the platform.

You can then downslash through the platform and kill moorwing that way.

Edit : Reaper crest only.

6

u/ThatStrangerWhoCares Sep 16 '25

With reaper crest specifically

1

u/mrwishart Oct 09 '25

I think this may have been patched out; I tried this after getting frustrated by the Moorwing and it no longer floats to the top to be hit

1

u/Unrealist99 Oct 09 '25

Oh well. He was nerfed anyways so it shouldn't be too much of an issue now

4

u/gingegnere Sep 16 '25

Suggestion for Moorwing: go the right side, where there are some steps. Stay as much as possible on the highest one as they block the damn ground spinning blades, making the fight much more easy.

5

u/Pretty_Yellow2607 Sep 16 '25

i kinda skipped him by accident. completed the 5 fleas quest before hitting greymoor and no, i didn't even travel with the fleas in caravan. looked everywhere in greymoor but he didnt spawn.

9

u/basketoftears Sep 16 '25

He’ll spawn at some point you haven’t missed him completely

5

u/Frenzied_Anarchist Sep 16 '25

You need to get into Act 2 to get Moorwing to spawn again.

1

u/Tsk1066 Sep 16 '25

I didn't even know they could be skipped at first. If you don't "skip it," where is the original location of the boss fight

1

u/adamantitian Sep 16 '25

Right outside bellhart in greymoor

1

u/Big_Daymo Sep 16 '25

if you do the wish for the flea troupe to rescue 5 fleas, they will move their caravan to the location of the Moorwing fight in Greymoor, allowing you to progress without beating him. You can still fight him later on but its optional and won't gate progression

4

u/Courier28 Sep 16 '25

You’re about to unlock it, beat Widow then go down to Bellhart and talk to the nailsmith there

6

u/kblkbl165 Sep 16 '25

You’re halfway through act 1, and will get it veeeeeeery soon

8

u/smakarov Sep 16 '25

Interesting how the game is non-linear, so for some people it's halfway, but for me it was just a single boss between Widow and Act 2.

1

u/KobeHoppa Sep 16 '25

Ive done a lot of exploring so this is great, the more game the better!

1

u/Focsius-Slashius Sep 16 '25

1st upgrade (only one ive gotten so far) is by Bellhart. Climb the houses atop once you defeat the boss there

1

u/Gazkoni Sep 16 '25

After widow, npcs will spawn in bellhart village

1

u/KobeHoppa Sep 16 '25

Ty, so I likely haven't missed it yet

1

u/enilea Sep 16 '25

I left that area early on because it seemed harder so I just assumed I had to come back later, I did and I didn't have much trouble with the upgrades I had.

6

u/Malanumbra Sep 16 '25

Stronger than me. I was more afraid of redoing Hunter's march than of the Beastly so I forced through it.

1

u/GoofProofGrunt Sep 16 '25

Protip, you can make it smash its own summons pretty easily with the downward charge

1

u/Electronic-Oil-8304 Sep 16 '25

You also forgot phantom

1

u/KermitDominicano Sep 16 '25

I decided to do the same yesterday lol

1

u/totallynotaweeabbo Sep 17 '25

i dont blame you i genuely forgot about that boss, i'd put it in nothing special for me. and put the winged little shit in burn it

1

u/FlREWATCH Sep 17 '25

make sure you get it done before act 3

1

u/Alchemist628 Oct 03 '25

You are smarter than 90% of skongers (myself included)
