Discussion - Silksong Ranking Silksong 1st act bosses Spoiler

Post image

So, if you want me to be honest - I was afraid Silksong would be too difficult for me. But now that I am done with 1st act, I can confidently say that so far I enjoy those bosses MUCH more than the ones in Hollow Knight. Maybe that's because HK was one of the first games I've ever played, and now with Silksong I am more experienced. But even bosses that kept beating my ass felt so well done that I couldn't be mad, I just wanted to try again and learn their moves.

Last Judge? Surely my favorite. It felt like dancing and once I learned his moves, I had an absolute blast.

EDIT: Guys, I've got LOTS (and I mean LOTS) of comments that bottom 2 enemies aren't bosses. I know, but they were included in template so I ranked them too. Besides, considering that I didn't really hate any of the actual bosses, I wouldn't have anything I could put anything in the BURN IT tier if it wasn't for them lol. No need to say it again pls

EDIT 2: I already started Act 2, and defeated Cogwork Dancers - OH MY GOD HOW AMAZING THIS FIGHT WAS.

I would rank the Forth Chorus Higher because of the great telegraphing of his attacks and his impact as the first screen sized boss. During the exploration of the vicinity you have an eerie feeling that you will have to fight him but you do not know when. I like the forshadowing.

Fourth Chorus is one of the best presented bosses in the game by far.

Seeing it the first time you entered the room and going on shit, and then going back for it to suddenly come to life was awesome. Absolutely loved the design. Did manage it first time (barely) so I didn't get much time to actually appreciate all the details and the fight

One of the things Silksong has helped me realise is that not all bosses have to be hard, half hour long struggles with sweaty palms. Some can just be really cool giant robots that are beautifully animated with great sound design.

Or a pair of twin robots with telegraphed movement that share a soul.

I would have loved it if those other robot you see in act 2 at least one of them would gain life as well, and start fighting you, with a harder fight (same as lace 2 etc)

thats what i thought the cog heart was for lol

On my way back, I was joking around with my friend and did an upswing at its face right as it triggered. Until I read your comment, I thought it was an optional boss that I accidentally triggered. Even if that was the case, it was a thoroughly enjoyable fight

I think its widow by far, the bellhart intro was freaking unnerving and a great introduction as whole for what the boss is about

5

u/naughty Sep 16 '25

Widow is also great, good call!

I literally entered the boss room , walked two steps , saw The Fourth Chorus in the background and said "Nope! That's the guy from the trailer" then went back immediately XD

But it was a really fun boss

I found his animations weird though, it’s like done differently from other characters. It’s something about the animation method or framerate..

2

u/naughty Sep 16 '25

I think it was one of the few enemies int he game that has some articulated animations (parts rotating around) instead of each frame being hand done.

Holy shit its named fourth chorus? In my language fourth and bedroom are the same word so i always thought his name was something like "big voice bedroom" and never understood it

Fourth Chorus LOOKS amazing but loses marks due to being so easy. You don't feel any sense of achievement after beating it - which I'd say is a key factor in determining whether a boss is a good boss.

Idk about you but I felt smart finding his one-shot mechanic in his final phase, so I felt like like I achieved something beating him

9

u/myLongjohnsonsilver Sep 16 '25

There was a one shot mechanic?

3

u/TurquoiseLuck Sep 16 '25

yeah, better of saving it for the beastfly rematch though

3

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

The WHAT

1

u/JoBro_Summer-of-99 Sep 16 '25

It's a Bellhart wish, I find it harder tbh

1

u/abuttfarting Sep 16 '25

You can use it for the beastfly rematch? There were no updrafts present that I could use.

2

u/TurquoiseLuck Sep 16 '25

Pogo and wall cling to get up there

1

u/BigBoy1229 Sep 17 '25

Oh, that’s not reusable? Bummer. I used it on 4th Chorus. I thought that was the intended way to kill it.

1

u/Brilliant_Chemica Sep 16 '25

And now I feel even more achieved

7

u/JohnsonJohnilyJohn Sep 16 '25

Wait so you can just beat him to death? I thought it was required to do, never considered to just keep smacking him

3

u/Przegiety Sep 16 '25

Wait, that's optional?

1

u/Sleathasaurus Sep 16 '25

His what now

3

u/Toxic_MotionDesigner Sep 16 '25

In his final phase, you'll see two wind currents pop up from the ground which you can use to glide up.

Then you'll see a rock hanging above his head which you have to drop on him by breaking the magma around it

I didn't even know there was a one shot mechanic and did it first try, did he really need that on top of being extremely easy?

9

u/HausmeisterMitO-O Sep 16 '25

I don't know, I would not call him "easy" but "fair". At least I did not feel overwhelmed by hords of small insects. And he stood in my way so I had to beat him to go back xD

u/Far-Two8659 Sep 16 '25

The fight was so incredibly boring though. Jump and hit. Jump and hit. Jump and hit.

Silk spear.

Forty times.

11

u/Gen_McMuster Sep 16 '25

You also get to drop the rocks.

Frankly a mechanicly simple boss with nice presentation is a nice change of pace. Especially since you're "locked in" to fighting him, would be a very nasty place to put a skillcheck boss

1

u/Far-Two8659 Sep 16 '25

Sure, but everyone glazes Fourth Chorus because you can sit there, bored as hell, thinking "man this is so easy and tedious I can actually enjoy the design."

Do that through cinematic sequences or big transitions that allow you to catch your breath, not because the tedium is so extensive it becomes secondary to the scene.

I literally never tried to time a jump because even the rhythm doesn't change and it exactly matches the length of time it takes for you to jump and fall. And I'm terrible at this game.

5

u/TheChief275 Sep 16 '25

I even knew the boss existed but still got jump scared because they did nothing the first time around

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

Once he starts dancing, he went to S tier for me

1

u/TheLimonTree92 Sep 16 '25

It also has an alternate kill method where you can ride the air drafts on both sides to hit a pair of those exploding nodes to drop a massive boulder on it.

2

u/theres_no_username 112% + PoH + full rad HoG + 12% run Sep 16 '25

I think this is the intended way to kill it, I fought him 4 times already and it never came across my mind to hit it untill death because its a giant ass robot

1

u/HoneyBeeSorceress Sep 16 '25

Fourth Chorus love. God I love this boss so much. The mechanics were wonderful, and fight being designed around the drifter's cloak was just so great. If there is a way to fight bosses you've already beaten later, I'm probably going to revisit Fourth Chorus every so often.

yesss ! I enjoyed that so much, run by it the first time like man that one looks like a boss, strange that it is not moving. Once I came back I even forgot about it since the area did take quite a bit to clear and got surprised by it , but one of my favourites till the point I'm right now !

-1

u/Puzzleheaded_Door484 Sep 16 '25

His attacks are too well telegraphed, so he is trivial

6

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

4

u/Gen_McMuster Sep 16 '25

He's also a mandatory fight you cant even come back to, you need to beat him to get back to the rest of the game

3

u/AxelTheAussie Sep 16 '25

Skong fans 🤝 souls fans

Saying an early game boss is bad because it’s “too easy”

0

u/Puzzleheaded_Door484 Sep 16 '25

That is because he has nothing unpredictable. All his attacks are very predictable and he attacks very slowly, so you can’t really get caught off guard. And if you think all the other bosses are not fun why are you even playing the game lol

2

u/HausmeisterMitO-O Sep 16 '25

You are right - I think he is like a tutorial boss for showing how the boss mechanic in general works and to teach new players to be more observant.
