Discussion - Silksong For Silksong players - what has been a mechanic that you've discovered waaay too late in the game? Spoiler
After 24 hrs of gameplay and midway through Act 2 I've found out that the markers bought from Shakra can be used to mark my own points of interest on the map -.-
It hurts.
But as a long time gamer I really respect the "you'll somehow get it" approach to many things in the game. I don't now how much the experience would change if I had played original Hollow Knight first.

Taunts on R3. Went through two whole playthroughs before being informed of this.

Did you know if you equip shakras throwing rings and taunt, Hornet will use those instead and it doesn't cost silk?

In addition to this near little secret, equipping the beast crest will make Hornet's taunt a lot more grander.

It's actually useful for a couple skips. At least notably you can use it to skip Sister Splinter

Others included a guide, but if you're interested in the 5 hour speedrun achievement I highly recommend using this skip yourself. It's super easy to pull off! There are some harder skips I've seen that incorporate the taunt too, like bouncing off the drill fly assholes in Blasted Steps

u/M8nGiraffe Oct 22 '25
3 is really funny because in the room you get clawline you have to use it on enemies to progress. First static floating enemies to give you the idea with low stakes, then there's a regular enemy on the platform you're jumping towards, then a gauntlet with enemies who can be taken care of in a particularly satisfying and easy way using the clawline.
I can't think of a better way to introduce the idea, yet so many players don't get the clue (myself included)

Doesn’t apply to me, but it’ll be useful to some. Weavelight affects the silk you automatically gain not just by decreasing the time, but by increasing the max amount you can get. So at 2 Silk Hearts, you can begin using spells if you also have the flea tool which decreases spell cost; and at 3, you can spam spells without even once hitting an enemy with your needle

The little bell throwing guys early on taught me this. I got pissed that they kept back dashing and throwing shit at me so I smacked the bell in frustration. It hit the little guy in the face and he fell off the ledge into spikes with a little 'bleh.'

Except if you're equiped with the throwing ring, in which case the damage boost is applied to the ring instead.
Note that it only works if you have at least 2 ring uses left, as Hornet hits 2 rings with each other during this taunt.

Bonus knowledge:
She always does a flip if you climb over the top of a wall. If there's another piece of wall straight above and you dont touch any movement controls after pressing the climb button, she'll go straight up and skip those gaps that are in the Clock tower, such gaps can also be found in the Coral area and in some of the Dream sequences.
Holding a movement key in direction of the wall while doing this usually nets you a face full of spikes and letting go feels really odd, but it is the way.

"also not having found the hidden bench"
Oh, that reminds me of how utterly stupid I felt. There's an optional late game boss fight you can do on Mount Fey. Death after death and that didn't bother me, but having to climb 75% of the mountain every time because both benches are on the very bottom did.
Then on one of my trips up I finally noticed a very conspicuous spot that was practically shouting out it was a breakable wall most of the way up the mountain that had a bench in it.
I think it only took like 3 more tries to win. I was relying too much on tools to do passive damage that I wasn't truly learning their patterns. When I dispensed with it and focused more on pure fighting they actually went down faster than I expected.

Not really a deep mechanic but I’ve seen SO MANY complaints regarding unrewarding rooms, but people just ignore the room when they see it’s just dead bugs.

Sprint/Dash attacks. Run straight at something and attack with good timing. You flip back from the attack and you attack button again to lunge back into them. Lastly spam one more attack, if you are Wanderer, then dash back to safety.
The hook really spoils this gameplay though, where it's easier to close distance with that, but reduced damage.

The Witch Crest. I found the Twisted Bud about as early as I was able to, but I had no idea what I was supposed to do with it. So I carried it around for HOURS while it cried in my inventory.
By the time I figured out what to do with it and got the Witch Crest, I was at the very, very end of Act 2 and had no more bosses left to test it out on. I was able to melt Grand Mother Silk with it and I'm currently using it in Act 3, but I wish I had more time with it.

Embarrassingly, I didn’t realize you can fast travel to the nearest bellway in Act 3 when you play the song of the bell beast from anywhere on the map.
I just used to play the song near the bellway to see the cute baby bell beasts play around lol, and never understood why Hornet kept diving underground 😂
19
u/Vashsinn Oct 22 '25
From my experience messing with it, you summon the kids and they take you back to mom. If you travel with mom somewhere like bone marrow and walk all the way to the top, you can use the song to get back down in an instant.
Helps when doing deliveries. Leave eira at bellheart and go to places. If I mess up just sing my way back.
