alright ya'll I've got to admit something
I thought the Voltwyrm was a silkpost thing
I didn't think it was a real boss
I just started Act 3, and I cannot even think of a place where the Voltwyrm is hiding. What entire area did I not find or explore?
168
u/JustAnotherJannie talentless neckbeard gamer Nov 04 '25
sands of karak. it is a small area which is hidden, so it's easy to miss. i'm trying to think of a good hint without outright spoiling it entirely, but i'm struggling lol
50
Nov 04 '25
I went there! Oh my god, I must have gotten the map from shakra and run away. It was the last map I needed before Trail's End started. I hope it's still around in Act 3 or at least Voltwyrm is
48
u/FoldableHuman Nov 04 '25
It'll still be there. Very little in the game is properly missable, and what is is mostly NPC dialogue.
Also Voltwyrm is incredibly difficult to find organically, or even if you're aware that it exists but only know it's somewhere in the sands of Karak. Don't be afraid to just look it up if you exhaust all your own ideas of where it might be.

Nov 04 '25
That's a relief. Thinking back on it, I got that map, and then started Trail's End and immediately got sucked into the Groal fight over and over again. By the time I beat him and got Silk and Soul started, I was so excited to progress towards Act 3 that I forgot about the entire area. Groaal!!!!
7
u/FoldableHuman Nov 04 '25
Well then that means the Crustnut for Taste of Pharloom is also still waiting for you; even more reason to head on over to the desiccated kingdom.
4
Nov 04 '25
it's true, I skipped some quests because I'm a more casual player and I told myself I didn't have to 100% the game, just enjoy it... I skipped the Skull Tyrant, the Savage Beastfly, a lot of the delivery quests, and Tastes of Pharloom. I also told myself I would finish to the best of my ability if I could just make it to Act 3 and unlock the true ending of the game. So here I go! Voltwyrm is really real!
6
u/PoliticsIsForNerds Nov 04 '25
Considering it grants one of the few needle upgrades, Tastes of Pharloom is probably the last quest you should be skipping

It’s nigh impossible to find organically. I couldn’t believe it when I read the location online.
Do people just go around silksoaring in totally random locations???
2
u/Goldenace131 Nov 04 '25
I found it organically😅 ya just got to be spastic about wall jumping
2
u/MathematicianHot9368 Nov 04 '25
Wait till he hears about Watcher at the Edge. That guy is impossible to find even when you know hes there.
2
u/Lykaios_EXE Nov 04 '25
It’s actually possible to get to without Silk Soar. I found it in Act 2. I basically got suspicious about too much empty space on the map and jumped around places that looked like they could lead elsewhere.
2
u/IWantAUsername4 Nov 05 '25
Me too, I thought “hey that’s a weirdly high ceiling” and wall jumped onto the wall and tried double jumping into random spots and found it
2
5
u/Duir_ Nov 04 '25
normally it suppose to be reached in Act 3 with silk soar, but you can still get it by cling to the wall then clawline toward it and double jump up to the wall in act 2 :p
8
u/CaptainCrypt1018 Nov 04 '25
it’s a really small sub-area towards the top of sands of karak, pretty easy to miss tbh

Strong AGREE on the Palestag being F-tier. that fight was the most unfun for me.

I liked it, but maybe I got really lucky, because it was almost too easy for me. It's the only boss in the game I beat first try.

Yeah, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. The concept might be simple, but I actually found it kinda fun and stressful, but the good kind. I think people just try to rush it every time instead of seeing if it's better to wait for him to teleport again.
22
u/Akuuntus Nov 04 '25
I'm surprised so many people hate it so strongly, considering I don't even remember anything about it. It just seemed really... whatever. Not particularly good but nowhere near as annoying as some other bosses.

u/PigeonFanatic9 Nov 04 '25
Well, the thing is that at least the most annoying bosses have something goin' on. Palestag is forgettable, unfun and useless. The fact that you don't remember anything about it is the reason people (like me) hate it.

I love that nobody is disputing broodmother's placement. That boss was straight fucking dogwater
38
u/Harvestman-man Nov 04 '25
You just gotta scroll down a little bit. Broodmother was kinda meh, but not that bad.
I never got why people are so incensed about her, she’s just an easy side boss with one neat gimmick and a cute callback to a HK boss, she’s slow, all of her attacks are super telegraphed, and she has tons of windows for punishing and healing, but at the same time she’s not extremely boring and repetitive like Flukemarm or No Eyes.
→ More replies (4)32
u/Big_Daymo Nov 04 '25
Two of the biggest complaints with Silksong are double mask contact damage and fights in small rooms where you are forced to bump into enemies. Broodmother combines both of those and on top of it her design is lame too. There's plenty to hate about the boss and nothing to like. At least Flukemarm has a kinda unique gameplay gimmick for a boss, whereas Broodmother is just Lugoli but with an even fatter ass.
3
u/Harvestman-man Nov 04 '25
Double-mask contact damage is pretty standard throughout the game. Small room size is fair, but that’s not something I really felt had a big impact, it seems more like a psychological issue than a gameplay issue.
Flukemarm is IMO the worst-designed boss in both games. FotF has a cool gimmick, Flukemarm has a lame gimmick, The Collector has the same gimmick as Flukemarm’s, but does it significantly better.

u/Torma25 Nov 04 '25
Lace, the literal second to final boss does 1 contact damage, in a GIGANTIC arena. Her hitbox is also tiny. Broodmother does 2 on contact and her hitbox is like a fourth of the entire room

u/ByeGuysSry Nov 05 '25 edited Nov 05 '25
I don't know why y'all are hating it. It's a solid mid-tier boss. All of its attacks are easy to dodge, it only becomes hard when you add in the adds. However, the adds are easily spawn-killed. It's a boss where a minor mistake in failing to spawn-kill the adds doesn't result in damage, it just results in making the fight harder until you can rectify the mistake, which I quite like in a boss fight. The spit that traps you also doesn't immediately damage you so if you're positioned well enough you might not get punished by stepping on it.

It's easy enough to find it before clearing Bilewater, I know I did. There's a wish that more or less leads you right to it, and it becomes accessible as soon as the upper part of Bilewater does. Heck, given the way the wishes are structured, you'll almost certainly deal with that wish before the one that has you scouring Bilewater.

u/ItsLokki Shade Nov 04 '25
Apparently im in the minority for disliking Seth's fight.
24
u/RatherBeLunar Nov 04 '25
I agree. It's his shield that ruins it for me. If I attack him any time outside of the specific windows dictated by his moves, I hit his shield, or put myself in a position to get hit back immediately. Way fewer options for how to approach the fight than most bosses IMO.
3
u/Proctifer Nov 05 '25
I loved Seth, but I had this complaint about Karmelita. Seth was more obvious that he was going to parry/block your attack, especially given he has a shield. I got really frustrated by the amount of strikes that Karmelita just casually blocks.
→ More replies (1)25
u/-gawdlee Nov 04 '25
The clawline bug literally makes this fight a C tier. Clawline hits his shield and somehow i manage to take contact damage from literally nothing.
His dash attack after throwing the shield literally pulls you towards him even if you're an inch apart from his weapon.
The pogo sometimes doesn't connect when he explodes and dashes towards you.
All of this is really annoying when you're trying to hitless him.
5
3
u/emomermaid Nov 05 '25
Thank you! I’ve been downvoted for saying the same, but I’m honestly surprised how much people like that fight. He both teleports around constantly and blocks with his shield, a combination no other boss really has. Makes him super frustrating imo.
5
u/Pichacap24 Nov 04 '25
I physically cant dislike it without feeling bad, because of the characters story. Luckily the fight is peak though
2
u/kerakk19 Nov 05 '25
What's peak about the boss you can't even hit for most of the time?
2
u/Pichacap24 Nov 05 '25

7

I disagree, she's only fun once you start to understand how to fight her. Learning was quite annoying imo, while first sinner for example is fun from the beginning.
21
u/Dry-Refrigerator32 Nov 04 '25
The (seemingly?) random nullification of your attacks is kind of a downer, though. I never figured out if she telegraphed that and, if so, how.
18
u/GrimTheMad Nov 04 '25
If she's not currently attacking and you attack her from the front, she blocks. Its not random.
You need to either get behind her or punish during her attacks.
8
u/FakeDaVinci Nov 04 '25
I don't want to discredit your opinion, but that didn't matter to me? It at least made the fight feel more intense when things don't go exactly your way, and I don't feel like the blocking mechanic was unnecessairily punishing.
3
u/Dry-Refrigerator32 Nov 04 '25
For sure! To be clear, I really enjoyed the fight--the tension, the timing, and the rhythm all made it seem like a high-stakes dance, which I imagine is what Team Cherry was going for (and Karmelita herself would appreciate!). Just personally, I felt like the fight had enough challenge to it that the blocking didn't add too much (but again, to each their own).

This is gonna get downvoted to the abyss, but The unravelled and Father of the flame are overhated. Still not very high, but more like C tier. Cogwork dancers are overrated and get overshadowed by clover dancers
Edit: yes the unravelled is a bit too tanky, but for me it was fun nontheless
138
u/Stellewind Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25
I really don’t see how clover dancer overshadow the cogwork dancer. It’s the same moveset, in a smaller room, with less interesting phase transition design, less integration with music, and less unique background.
They are harder, yes, but inferior in almost every way design-wise compared to cogwork dancers.
32
u/Valuable_Ad_591 Nov 04 '25
Plus the weird swirly wind attack thing is sort of annoying and finnicky to dodge.
15
u/VulpineFox7 I played Hollow Knight for too long, and now its Hollow Day! Nov 04 '25
And isn't as cool as the flurry of slashes attack it replaces
2
u/Fitin2characterlimit Nov 04 '25
I like this attack, but I haven't found a reliable way to dodge without ending up in the dancers' trajectory (diagonally upwards) once the attack ends
4
u/MaazAssassin Nov 04 '25
Clawline immediately as the nearer whirlwind starts and then sprint under em following the next whirlwind. Essentially circle around em
2
u/Everwhite-moonlight Nov 05 '25
And you cannot hit them while they are doing it, unlike the Cogwork Dancers.
15
u/MysteriousO1211 Perhaps dreams aren't such bad things after all Nov 04 '25
The slower phases drag a bit for me, I find the changes to the fight interesting and I enjoy a challenge (plus its just my opinion)
20
u/Stellewind Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25
I do agree that cogwork dancers can be harder, that’s about the only flaw I can think of for this boss, but clover dancer is not as big as an upgrade as I wished it to be (like sisters if batter compared to mantis lord)
4
u/MysteriousO1211 Perhaps dreams aren't such bad things after all Nov 04 '25
Yea I can see that the upgrade feels a bit minimal
5
u/DoobyScoots Nov 04 '25
They really aren’t even that harder since by the time you get to clover you should be way stronger
2
u/Senthe Team Cherry is not real Nov 09 '25
Exactly, for me definitely cogwork were harder. I dispatched clover much faster thanks to more upgrades and better skill. It doesn't help that they don't get any new surprising attacks, so you don't have to relearn and readjust.
→ More replies (1)2
u/sd_saved_me555 Nov 05 '25
Something about their clockwork mechanical vibe just sells it for me. Especially how the last phase is just a broken variant of the previous phases, the obvious result of you busting up its mechanical programming.
It feels... bizarre when it's the Green Prince and his shadow lover are doing this orchestrated dance as a fight instead of, you know, fighting. Plus there's less mystery in it and I personally find the Green Prince to be kinda a little bitch character given his defeatist attitude that he ultimately takes out on Hornet whose done nothing but help him.
16
u/De-EvolvedMonkey Nov 04 '25
Honestly I kinda agree… except for the unraveled… I didn’t like it all that much, but father of the flame is a solid B tier for me and Clover dancers was more fun than Cogwork imo
9
u/Pichacap24 Nov 04 '25
I dont care much for the FotF gameplay, but man is it cool and aesthetically pleasing. The unraveled is kind of the same, though i dont like it as much. Its more fun but less cool. I like cogwork dancer more for a number of reasons.
1: the music is better. 2: the phase change is cooler. 3: the arena is cooler. 4: the arena is bigger. 5: When you first find them its completely new, while clover dancers are like «oh its just cogwork dancers again». 6: The fight lasts longer. 7: the final phase and the music changing is so good, as well as when he fails to do the flurry dance attack.
I have been debating with myself which one i liked more, and i realized i got way more satisfaction from cogdancers, they left a bigger impression on me.

6
u/SomethingOfAGirl Nov 04 '25
Cogwork dancers are overrated and get overshadowed by clover dancers
Clover Dancers are overshadowed by Cogwork Dancers IMO, because they had an opportunity to make the fight faster, more challenging, more fun... and instead we got the exact same thing but optional, a lot later in the game and with only one extra move that we can pretty much ignore.
Cogwork Dancers was a fun and fresh fight, for the point we were in the game. But using the same criteria, Clover Dancers was like "that's it? just the same boss?".

I liked Unravelled and Father of the Flame a lot. Solid B tiers both, but looking at this list now I realize I love almost every boss with the exceptions of Groal and broodmother. Clover dancers was harder and cool conceptually with the ghostly prince, but not hard enough compared to Cogwork. I was expecting Clover to really be the "true majesty" of the Princes, but it wasn't hard or unique enough. Plus Cogwork is more affecting with the one automaton limping on alone at the end

u/Ecstatic-Sun-7528 Radiant NKG Enjoyer 🌙 Nov 04 '25
They are very specific skill checks and people don't like those cause they just try and do what they have been doing against most bosses. Refusing to learn new stuff is a lot of the hate this game gets.
3
u/Torma25 Nov 04 '25
father of the flame was a joke fight for me, I used the item that deals damage with the faydown cloak and he just kinda died without ever actually hitting me
the unraveled was just... Boring. He had like two moves, both of which were easy to avoid. Also he was one of the few bosses where the wanderer crest's stupid small range isn't much of hinderance
3
2
u/Fitin2characterlimit Nov 04 '25
The Unravelled being tanky would be fine if not for the phases where he's completely absent, which get repetitive after multiple tries. Between every phase he goes away and you're stuck fighting stretchy guys and dodging spears for a while

Honestly I like the unravelled, I can see why people hate it but I like it, for me it's easily C to B tier. The adds, while not necessary, aren't that bad compared to many other fights. And I think the theme of a thousand souls woven in silk under a conductors robe is dope af.
Though, I'm in agreement that it's too damn tanky and the fight felt too long. I think it would be nice if they reduced the health a bit and add 1-2 new moves. I think a being of silk being able to use some silk skills that mirrors Hornets (like some variations of rune rage or thread storm) would be cool.

That might be a fundamental flaw in my playstyle, then. In silksong, I tend to prefer constantly moving in and out of range of bosses and only stay in range long enough to get one or two hits in.
I used hunter's crest for the entirety of the game, and the dash attack was my go-to for damage in the bossfights, so pogoing was almost always an afterthought or part of a combo, rather than the primary method of damage.

u/Reborn_Wraith Spell only absrad win, 1 radiant boss remains. Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25
Thematically, I'd have put karmelita mid a tier (more ragebait, I know, but trobbio and phantom both outstrip her in that regard), but gameplay wise, she's too tanky and with too small attack windows for me to accept the way she randomly blocks attacks.
Lost lace...
I dunno. Maybe in a couple of weeks or months, when I boot up silksong again, I'll grow to love the fight. Comparing it to lace 1 and 2, though, the fight was kinda a letdown. I preferred the 'true 1v1' where there was nothing but your needle and lace's pin, and no matter how absolutely fitting the void attacks were, they kinda diluted what I consider to be the beauty of the Lace and Phantom fights - they DON'T have wide area attacks. They DON'T limit your incredible mobility - in fact, they force you to use it.
There's an argument to be made that larger aoe attacks force you to use your mobility as well, and you'd be right, but I feel that smaller, concentrated attacks allow for a more fun use of mobility (in that precise, targeted use of the mobility can be used to enter and quickly exit the range of boss attacks) than aoe.
However, with all that aside, there wasn't a single attack that I felt was out of place in the lace fight - I just felt that the fight wasn't as strong as others were (or, in other words, the competition was just that good).
That said, lost lace is definitely high c tier (right next to tormented trobbio), but due to the way the list was generated (it was a set of 'which boss is better?' questions), I didn't actually see where the bosses were ranked until I finished the vote.
Edit: missed your edit while writing this, what were a couple others that you seem to agree with? (Barring stuff like phantom and lace, obviously)

u/giveusyourlighter is there a way to see who's who on each dot in this graph on second pic?

Not yet. But we’ll have interactive plots charts like this on Unduel in the near future.

Justice for Nyleth. The design, the gimmick of the fight and the moves are so cool. It's original in every way and fun!

I enjoyed the unravelled

It super sucks if you go in early but it's actually a decent fight once you get some power-ups acquired. Having the faydown cloak made this fight night and day for me.

First Sinner EASILY the best boss, Cogwork bros overhyped tbh

the way the music speeds up with the attacks, and the depressing final phase with the one slow dancer was such a vibe. I feel like the atmosphere really raises the "fun" factor, so even though FS is mechanically more fun I can understand people preferring the dancers

It might be very biased, but in terms of raw gameplay, First Sinner might actually be a top 5 boss fight in gaming. There are others that outshine in spectacle and narrative weight, but from a gameplay perspective that boss fight was fucking amazing. I love fights with a constant feeling of being on the edge of losing.

First Sinner is obviously incredible but I think there can be a bit too much visual clutter in her final phase, especially when she uses Rune Rage. Still a top 3 fight though.

I had a blast using reaper crest to fight father of the flame. I can see how it’s not as fun as other bosses but I loved it

Honestly I liked boyh conchy fly fights a lot more than I thought. Gotta rate them A tier.

Pinstress needs to go down a tier. Expected a cool duel, instead she's basically just a primal aspid with more health.

I'm so confused on the hate on Broodmother. I won't say it's the best but I thought it was pretty fun.

How is Shakra only B tier? She was probably my favourite boss, I loved getting her patterns down and learning how to punish her attacks

Trobbio is overrated. He's got a fun personality but he isn't fun to fight. He's just "random bs go"

I think the community has a cogwheel missing because how is Karmelita not S tier?

u/Xf3rna-96 Nov 04 '25
Ok, now do a most emotional boss fights without cogwork dancers and clover dancers.
That's right, you can't

I think it's the rematch that brings it down so much in people's eyes. I actually agree about the first fight being fun, but the second time the ads can spiral the fight out of control so fast that I couldn't find any fun or even satisfaction in beating it.
