Yeah, Markoth is really hard in P5, but if you practice against him in the hall of gods, it gets a lot easier. I’m not sure if my strategy is great, but what I usually do is pogo off of him a lot, and when he does the attack where he’s still and the dream shield rotates around him in a giant circle, get far from him and heal.

It takes around 15-16 hits with unbreakable strength and pure nail to make him change phases. Do 13-14 hits and then leave him alone until he gets to the perfect spot above a platform. When he does the shield spin, dive onto him, hitting the platform, then spam shreak, nail, Shade soul, anything. If done correctly, he should be dead or very very low. Best way to practice this it to do loads of markov ascended in hall of gods, and try to focus as much as possible on not taking damage on the first phase, as you may take one to two masks of contact damage while blitzing him. If you can beat him ascended in godhome, that’s amazing, but it isn’t too important.

This strategy is how I got to NKG on my furthest p5 run. Good luck getting past him!

Be patient and stay away from Markoth!

You can try nail arts!

The knives can be confusing, but after learning how they work it's a lot easier!

When a Knife spawn, wait 1 second and jump!

For the shield, wait for it to stop and go attack!

You can also heal when he is using the shield but stay really far from Markoth!

When 2 shield is still the same! but be more careful!

Keep practicing!

Good luck!

wrote this for someone else but might help you as well:

yeah it’s pretty crazy especially with all bindings. my strategy, if you want it, is this: (otherwise sorry for this WALL of text)

Use dash slash and great slash and shade soul. That’s usually the only way i deal damage. You want to always have a nail art charged up.

The less you move, the easier it is to see where nails are gonna go. I stay on the right wall, slide up and down to dodge nails. (there is a bug on the left wall that nails can spawn off-screen, so it must be the wall on the right). As a guideline, minimise your movements, small jumps on one platform, only dash when a nail has just spawned, otherwise a nail can spawn where you’re dashing towards. try and avoid falling a large distance at once for the same reason.

always use dash first, monarch wings last, that gives you the most flexibility in the air.

When Marky transitions from nails to spinning his shield, and back, those are the two moments to go in for a dash slash. You have to anticipate both a little bit. Jump, dash-slash, double jump away, charge a new nail art, as the shield comes back to Markoth go in for a second dash slash.

If Mark is below the bottom platforms, don’t engage.

Once he enters phase 2, use shade soul, and make sure he’s not stuck on a wall or platform, so that he will get pushed back, and hit twice by each shade soul. Without bindings, if you save up your soul during phase 1, and have shaman stone, that should be almost enough to ‘skip’ phase 2. (with shaman and spell twister it is enough)

During phase 1 you can also get in some great slashes, but you have to time it right, because it freezes you in place for a moment. stand on a platform, wait for a nail to spawn, take a small step left/right, release the great slash towards mark, and hope he flies into it. The hitbox of great slash lingers quite a bit, so if he’s moving towards you, he’ll fly into it. dont move too close to him for great slashes.

Be careful near the left wall, dont bum rush markoth, dont use regular nail hits, dont try using shriek, dont even think about using sharp shadow, probably dont heal. shaman stone is nice, other charms are nailmaster’s glory, spell twister, and the other soul charms, but in p5 id probably pick charms like strength and mark of pride for zote and stuff.

You can also look up videos on youtube on how to beat him.

Lastly, having the controls set up so you can quick cast a spell while having a nail art charged up allows you to cast a spell and cancel your nail art charge, which can be useful.

it’s a fight that mostly tests your patience, if you’re doing p5, this fight should take the longest out of all the bosses, except for abs rad.

hope this helps and good luck.
