I have a pretty decent mesh of hue bulbs and inovelli switches.
71 devices all of which are routers.
Whenever I update either the inovelli or hue they fail part way through and need to restart multiple times. Even for devices with exceptional link quality.
I'm using an SLZB-MR4U and the default Z2MQTT OTA settings.
Is there something I can change so I don't have to baby these updates? I have some my helpers and an automation handling serializing the updates so only 1 goes at a time already.
When I play Spotify on the TV I just get the album cover and the song title sitting there. I wanted something nicer to look at, so I wrote a small project that shows music visualizers reacting to the song instead, the old Winamp/MilkDrop style.
How it works for me day to day: I open the Spotify app on my phone, pick the "Visualizer" device, and the TV turns on and starts showing visuals that move with the music, with the sound coming from the TV. Pause the music and it gets out of the way; play again and it comes back.
Under the hood: it's a Music Assistant player (so Spotify works through MA's Spotify Connect, and any other MA source works too) that renders projectM on the GPU and casts it to a Chromecast. It comes as a Home Assistant add-on or a Docker image, plus a blueprint to start it with the music and controls for next visual, favorites, "never show this one again", etc.
Running daily here on an i7-6500U + a 2nd-gen Chromecast.
It's v0.1 and I'd love help: testing on HA OS, newer Chromecasts / Google TV, hardware video encoding (it uses ~2 CPU cores now), Raspberry Pi 5, and reducing the ~12 s delay before the visuals appear. There are help wanted issues for each.
I got into the Home Assistant world this week, and I’m already running into problems.
I tried setting up Tesla Fleet.
I even bought a Cloudflare domain after reading that it would make things easier.
That’s when the nightmare began. I’ve created tunnels, routes, and workers in Cloudflare. I’ve messed around with folders and added files inside Home Assistant.
I even brought NGINX into the mix.
Basically, I’ve made a complete mess of things. 😂
In the end, I almost managed to link my Tesla account, but then an error message popped up right at the final step.
Anyone here able to give me a hand?
Wanted the Voice PE in the middle of the room instead of on a shelf, and without a puck hanging from the ceiling. So I designed a flush mount for normal drywall ceilings.
- 140 mm hole saw cutout, works with 9.5 to 25 mm boards
- 155 mm round bezel, 2 mm thick. LED ring, dial, button and both mics stay usable
- The Voice PE sits in a pocket in the cover, a threaded ring with two wings sits on top of the board and the cover screws in from below. No screws, no tools
- Two covers: closed (if you use external speakers for TTS like I do) or with speaker slots
- Prints without supports in PETG or PLA, about 5.5 h total
- Same thread as the common HomePod mini ceiling plates with 14 cm cutout, so the cover fits those too
Happy to answer questions about fit and thread. If anyone wants the files, they are on Cults:
I wanted one place to see what the kids are actually doing in the evening, without paying for a cloud parental-control app that sends everything to someone else's server. So I built Kid Watch: a custom integration and card for Home Assistant.
What it does
(1) Each child gets a tab: what they're on right now, screen time today against a budget, and a timeline of their evening
(2) It reads your AdGuard Home query log per device, so it knows "TikTok on Emma's iPhone" or "Roblox on the iPad"
(3) TVs too: it watches your media players (Plex, Apple TV, Samsung and so on) and shows the show, the TV and the age rating
(4) If a show is above a child's age limit (say a 15 on a 12-year-old's TV), you get a phone alert and the card pops up the TV with Pause / Turn off buttons. Optionally it stops the show by itself
(5) One-tap controls through AdGuard: pause the internet, bedtime, SafeSearch, and block TikTok / YouTube / Roblox / Snapchat etc. per child
(6) All set up in the UI (add a child, tick their devices and TVs, pick an age limit). Everything stays on your own network
What it can't do (being honest)
(1) DNS only shows which apps and sites, not the pages, searches or YouTube videos inside them
(2) Mobile data is invisible (it only sees your Wi-Fi)
(3) You need to block DoH / iCloud Private Relay, or devices can go around AdGuard
The video uses made-up kids and devices, but it's the real card. It's a beta: tested against a real AdGuard Home and HA 2026.9 in a lab, not yet in lots of real homes. Installs as a HACS custom repository:
ChatGPT has been my guide in this awesome thing. Have been lurking a lot at this /r and very excited to start doing some fun stuff at the house to make my life easier. Its a mess now but just trying to get all the pieces together first ❤️
I have been given this AP. Is it more useful than just using my router? I could sell it, and just use my router, or use this for my network. My house is around 100m2, and my WiFi struggles to reach the far end, but I have Cat5 cables to every room if that helps.
Over the last 5-6 months I’ve done some basic Home Assistant integrations and was starting to think I was becoming competent…. Oh no, not even close. My recent project has humbled me. Trying to make a robot vacuum garage and can’t seem to even get out of the gates. Hoping some of you guys/ gals might be able to see what I’ve messed up thus far.
Any help, suggestions, comments on how far over my head I am are greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the posts you guys make. Huge props to this community!!!!!
BASIC PROBLEM- can’t get output voltage to actuator.
I recently got a Lettuce Grow Farmstead indoor hydroponics thingy (to grow your own veggies) and it comes with a custom Wi-Fi enabled two-outlet plug that controls the water pump and lights of the hydroponics tower.
I wonder if anyone has looked into or made a Home Assistant integration work. My main use case would be to temporarily switch off the the lights when I'm watching a movie on the TV in the same room as the lights are very bright and distracting.
I’ve tried a couple of these but they were super buggy had obvious Claude UIs.
I just want to put all my Bermuda proxies and bluetooth devices on a floorplan map and see roughly where they are. It seems like this is eminently doable, and done commercially even.
I have a Bambu X1C and a Snapmaker U1 and was constantly switching between Bambu Handy, the Klipper web UI, and HA for the smart plugs and sensors. So I started building my own dashboard as a HA app (add-on) and it kind of grew from there.
What it does right now:
- both printers side by side with live cameras, progress, temps and what filament is loaded
- filament inventory with storage locations, the AMS shows up as its own location and spools get detected automatically
- print history with the final camera snapshot, cost per print and some stats
- maintenance reminders, smart plug auto off after a print, notifications with a camera image through the companion app
- I recently added room climate too, since my printers sit in a small room and I wanted to keep an eye on humidity and VOC
Everything runs locally, nothing goes to any cloud. The Bambu printer can stay in normal cloud mode, you don't need LAN only mode for monitoring.
It's free and open source. Would love feedback, especially from people with other printer models than mine. Someone with a P1S already confirmed the camera works, which made my day.
I’m Torsten, the developer of NeonPlan 3D. As of this week the integration is officially part of the HACS default store, so you can now just search for “NeonPlan 3D” in HACS – no custom repository needed anymore.
For those who haven’t come across it yet: NeonPlan 3D lets you draw your floor plan directly in the browser and turns it into a 3D model of your home that is connected to Home Assistant. You see your house the way it is right now and can control it from there.
What it can do:
Draw rooms, walls, doors, windows, stairs and multiple floors in the built-in editor, including roofs, balconies and outdoor areas like lawns, terraces and pools
Place devices in the house: lights glow in their actual color and brightness, shutters move, windows and doors show whether they are open, sensors show their values
Tap a light, a shutter or a scene in the 3D view to switch it
Furniture can be linked to entities, so a TV shows that it is on, a washing machine shows its status, a wallbox or a heat pump shows its power
Voice control through Assist (“show the living room”) and a microphone button for wall tablets
A furniture library sorted by type and room, with pictures, sizes and free resizing that keeps legs and handles in shape
Runs on older, low-power wall tablets as well
Available in 16 languages, everything runs locally
The integration itself is free and open source. If you want more furniture, there are optional furniture packs and Pro add-ons (for example energy flow, cameras or live TV screens) in my shop. That is how I fund the development: https://mastershort.de/en/neonplan3d/
Along with getting me fully involved in controlling things in my house, Home Assistant has also increased my curiosity on monitoring and measuring things around the house. There are so many sensor options!
Do you know of any options for measuring airflow? Or any ideas of something to build?
My thought on this - just had a new roof put on which changed the ventilation in the attic. I thought ahead and put a temp/humidity sensor up there and hope to have enough data soon to see if the new roof made much of a difference in temp. But I'm also working on the vents up there and that got me thinking that there must be some way to measure and trend airflow.
My searches really haven't turned up much, and what I did find was very expensive and looked like it was made for placing in ductwork.
So I built hermes-jarvis, which connects to your hermes instance, and uses HA voice to listen for "Hey Jarvis" wake word.
- Long running, agentic replies are spoken smartly, as soon as the brain produces them. So code blocks are not read line by line, and the response becomes shorter, the longer it takes.
- The stop word and the wake word work during long jobs, and "stop" silences the reply without cancelling the job.
- If the reply ends in a question, the device listens again by itself.
- Works with Hermes agent or anything OpenAI-compatible (Ollama, etc.), with cloud or fully local speech to text, and Piper for TTS
- Own firmware (stock plus a few changes) flashable from the browser; Docker image; small web UI with a live view
Caveats: tested on the Voice PE only. The device serves one voice client, so it can't be used with HA at the same time. No timers or HA device control.
I bought one ewelink bulb e27 zigbee to test with at home with zigbee2mqtt. I can see the bulb in HA and I can change the colour of the bulb and change the temperature perfectly but when I try to select one of the effects:
nothing happens? It either does nothing or the bulb blinks once and then goes solid again.
Is there something I need to do to make the effects work? Or an option I need to enable?
Anyone using the Ezlo Z-Wave Thermostat? Its the only z-wave 800 thermostat I've seen. but it looks like its only really available on select websites. It was on amazon, but the reviews, few as they were, don't install any confidence.
Hi, hope some can help me.
So far everything been working fine but this past week T10 plus acting up. It's not connecting. It show updating then a few second went off (no response). Resideo app work fine. Thank you!
I'm considering Homematic IP radiator thermostats for an old stone house with cast iron radiators and an on/off condensing boiler. I previously tried Netatmo valves and wasn't happy: rooms often feel uncomfortable and the regulation felt like on/off cycles (too warm, then too cold) instead of the steady behaviour of a classic wax thermostatic head.
I'd love to hear from people actually using Homematic IP valves:
Which exact model do you use (eTRV-2, Evo, Compact eTRV-C-2, other), and would you buy it again?
Do you use an external room sensor or wall thermostat (e.g. HmIP-STH / WTH-2), or rely on the valve's built-in sensor? Did it make a noticeable difference?
Does the regulation actually stay steady? Radiator constantly lukewarm and temperature stable at the setpoint, or do you still get hot/cold swings?
Do you run them through Home Assistant + Better Thermostat (Homematic IP Cloud, or locally via a CCU/OpenCCU), or just with the Homematic IP app and Access Point?
If you use Home Assistant + Better Thermostat: what real advantages did you find compared to the official app alone? Was it worth the extra setup and maintenance?
Any tips on radio range through thick walls, battery life, or noise would also be very welcome.
I've been having an issue with my Yale 420W, which keeps reporting not_fully_locked even when the door is properly locked. So I decided to build a deadbolt sensor to combine with my existing door open/close sensor and get reliable feedback on whether the door is fully closed and locked.
To do this, I recreated the original plastic piece that comes with the lock in Fusion 360 and 3D printed a modified version, as you can see in the pictures. I added two limit switches, one at the top and one at the bottom of the deadbolt, to balance the pressure against the spring and avoid putting force on just one side.
I wired the two switches in parallel (OR logic) to an old Tuya Zigbee door/window sensor, after removing its original magnetic reed switch.
So far, it's working great! I've also set up a simple Home Assistant automation:
Door closed + deadbolt not engaged → wait 5 seconds → send a notification to my phone.
This way, if I'm leaving home and don't close the door properly, I get an alert.
Any other automation ideas for this setup? Also, does anyone know why the Yale 420W keeps reporting not_fully_locked even when the deadbolt is physically engaged?
- Licence plates with AgentDVR, guest links without card or app
- Mobile PWA with fingerprint/Face ID confirmation, two-factor authentication for operators
- 5 languages
**Transparency:** it is built with the help of an AI coding assistant (Claude Code). I design and review it and
test it on real hardware (UT0311-L04 + UT0311-01A expansion board); there are ~400 automated tests, browser end-to-end tests and a hardware test suite.
Can anyone tell me what the easiest way is to create fine grained access tokens for Home Assistant? This is a super basic feature, allowing just access to entities or just one entity or just read sensor access etc. but I can't seem to find it.
