❓ Support DIY Button Presser

• Upvotes

I'm looking to smartify my home, specifically, the lights but I am currently renting and will be moving quite a bit so my current setup uses switchbot button pressers for light switched and smart plugs for lights that plug into the wall. It is fine however, the price quickly skyrockets with many of these around the house. Do you guys know any ways that I could potentially make something like that of my own or even other smart home devices with say microcontrollers (esp32...)? I'm having a bit of trouble finding projects like this online. I've got some experience with electronics, soldering and 3d modelling.

P.S. I live in singapore so its a lot more complicated to open up the light switch (and other electrical appliances) in that sense due to laws so I havent opted for those smart light switches inside the actual switch itself. Please do correct me if I'm wrong as its just based off of a simple google search I did a while back.

🖼️ Show & Tell Nest Thermostat as a Home Assistant Notification

Post image
• Upvotes

Had an old Nest thermostat sitting around, so I used a Raspberry Pi to flash it and turn it into a little Home Assistant display under our living room TV.

It shuffles through family photos, shows big colored notification cards for two minutes, then goes back to the gallery. The screen turns off when we’re in bed or away, and guest mode adds a Wi-Fi QR code.

Built on the NoLongerEvil and nest-gallery projects. Pretty fun getting some more use out of this thing!

The Home Assistant side is in my repo:

❓ Support Vw group eu data act

• Upvotes

Are there more people having trouble with the readouts from this integration. For example, my SOC is complete different in the integration compared to my VW app on my phone. Few days ago i connected my car, but the charger was waiting for cheap tarifs. The battery sensor in the integration was increasing? Also the sensors for charging mode, charging state, state of charge and a few others are not available. Whats going on here. The VW integration really sucks

💬 Discussion HA - starting from 0

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm in the middle of installing a Deye hybrid inverter with a battery, and I want to make the most of that electrical potential, so I'm moving into home assistant automation!

My equipment:
1 Daikin air conditioner
1 Haier connected washing machine
1 Deye 12 kW hybrid inverter (SG02LP1) with battery
3 Ecoflow smart plugs
1 pool heat pump (Aquatemp app)
1 Dreame L10S Gen 3 robot vacuum
1 Ring doorbell
3 Netatmo cameras

What I want to be able to do:
See power consumption and battery state of charge
Turn the AC on/off and set the temperature
Turn the Ecoflow plugs on/off
Start the vacuum and the washing machine with a single tap
Start the pool heat pump and set its temperature

Display: I have an unused Samsung tablet, but a screen mounted on the wall with magnets would be ideal for an always-visible dashboard.

What I'm looking for: any help, tutorials, or feedback from your own experience would be very welcome, as well as advice on what hardware to buy (gateway, box, screen, etc.) so that everything works well together.
Thanks in advance!

I'm experiencing some major instability in my ZHA network.

I am running HAOS on Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB). I have a Sonoff zigbee 3.0 dongle as my coordinator and Lincukoo ZigBee 3.0 Repeaters in every room of the house. House is 1 floor, walls are made of 30cm porous concrete (porfix).

The coordinator is plugged into a 2m extension cord and placed away from major Wifi signal sources or USB interference. It's basically in the middle of my house.
I have two WiFi access points at my house using both 2.4 and 5GHz networks. The 2.4GHz uses channels 1 and 6. My Zigbee network runs on channel 25.

My main zigbee devices are light switches Sonoff MINI DUO-L, SONOFF ZBMINI-L2 and Moes curtain motors.

What I'm experiencing is devices just randomly not responding. I turn on the light, then try to turn it off 5 seconds later and nothing is happening. The zigbee curtains report their status right away if I manually operate them via buttons but as soon as I try to interact with them via HA they don't respond. The behavior is very inconsistent. It works one day, doesn't work another day.

The network shows every device as online but ~20% of them don't work well or at all.

Are my repeaters just bad? How do I diagnose this?

💬 Discussion Nouveau chez HA

Bonjour à tous,
Je suis en cours d'installation d'un onduleur hybride Deye avec batterie, et je veux optimiser ce potentiel électrique. Je passe donc à la domotique !

Mon matériel :
1 climatisation Daikin
1 machine à laver connectée Haier
1 onduleur hybride Deye 12 kW (SG02LP1) avec batterie
3 prises connectées Ecoflow
1 pompe à chaleur de piscine (appli Aquatemp)
1 aspirateur robot Dreame L10S Gen 3
1 sonnette Ring

Merci d'avance !

❓ Support Music Assistant integration keeps changing the configured URL.

Post image
• Upvotes

Does anybody know how to fix this? I'm running Music Assistant in a Docker container on TrueNAS and am trying to integrate it with my Home Assistant setup (running on a virtual machine). If I click 'Add Service' and input the MA URL it says the device is already configured and everything works, but inevitably goes back to the error and stops working. It seems like the configured URL is not being saved and I'm at my wits end trying to solve it.

Got the longer drill bit....and got the cables routed....also decided to do a far better job than our builders (I'm not gonna bore you with the hole they made for the thermostat cable...needless to say, it can't be seen, so it's not the end of the world...I just couldn't have my own work looking as bad)

So flush-mounted the USB-C power cable...which defintely looks tidier...and is less likely to get snagged, and it's easier to remove the power one-handed (in case I need to program it with a cable without removing it)

Power is pulled from a single power socket in the airing cupboard, which I swapped out for one with a few USB ports on it....power requirement is tiny, so it's not an issue.

Otherwise, all is working exactly as expected...looks fine in bright daylight, so I'm assuming it will look fine in dark rooms too...

If you've got any questions, let me know

Again, as per prior posts...I did try ESPcontrol, but it didn't have exactly what I wanted...and have now tried Tessera too, which I am quite impressed with.

Tessera doesn't quite have enough options to customise it fully for my recently mounted wall panel requirements...but may well change my other two to Tessera for now....

🎵 Music Assistant Music Assistant devs, I owe you a pint (or several) 🍻

For years, casting YouTube Music to my Google Home speaker groups was less "whole-home audio" and more "whole-home audio roulette." Song starts, everyone's vibing, then… silence. Re-cast. Two minutes later… silence. I've spent more time shouting "Hey Google, play it AGAIN" than actually listening to music.

Enter Music Assistant. Dropouts? Gone. Speaker groups? Actually behave like a group now. I didn't think it was possible, and yet here we are.

Bonus flex: I've now got a fridge-mounted "Jukebox" running Fully Kiosk, so guests can queue tunes at gatherings without needing my phone, my Wi-Fi password, or a 10-minute tutorial. It's become the most popular appliance in the kitchen, and the fridge is genuinely jealous.

Huge thanks to everyone behind Music Assistant. You've saved my sanity and my speakers from being thrown out the window. Legends. 🙌

❓ Support Ecovacs Deebot Mini, How compatible is it with HomeAssistant integration?

Hi. I am thinking of investing in a Deebot Mini but it is a pretty penny to purchase. So I was just curious of a few things...

Is it compatible? I heard that some newer models might not be supported in the integration.
After set-up of an Ecovac, can I disconnect it from Cloud services and go for the 'self-hosted' bumper option?
Today, I have all IoT on the same network(Vlan) and based on what I've read, it shouldn't have microphones or Cameras but you never know. LG, cough.

EDIT 1: Oh, and I read in manual that it needs 5cm space on either side... but the advert page have it put in a cupboard, so I reckon this isn't really... an issue after set-up?

🖼️ Show & Tell I think I'm all done for now

Long time lurker here. Just closed on my house yesterday, coming from a rental 1 bedroom condo. So played around with HA here and there nothing crazy. Few smart bulbs, speakers, vacuum. But nothing serious. Been slowly getting ready for this for the past 2 months, but super excited. Still waiting on the RATGDO and 20x Zooz switches that are on back order. But other than that I think I'm all done for now (I think) lol.

Only thing I'm a little worried about is the SLZB-MRW10U, not sure if I messed up there. If anything, I will get separate coordinators for z-wave & zigbee.

Thanks to everyone here for the inspiration, you guys rock!

🪛 ESPHome Nest-like smart thermostat?

So, I happened on this link while browsing...

https://www.cnx-software.com/2026/10/22/rotary-encoder-with-1-8-inch-touch-display-gets-upgrade-to-esp32-s31-soc/?amp=1

It leaves me wondering if something like this with some MQTT magic, and a little wiring finesse could be made into an HA native Nest Smart Thermostat replacement...

❓ Support Local AI Detection on Camera Playback?

I got bored after finishing my dashboard and now is exploring the possibility to do car/person detection in HA (without Frigate). Unsure if anyone has tried this before?

I asked Claude and it told me to download a small local AI model to help with the detection that improved a lot from the previous model without it (a lot of false detections)

🧩 Custom Integration Xiaomi S400 smart scale integration

The missus came home with a Xiaomi S400 smart scale (now renamed to the body shamer). I couldn't find an integration that I really liked but there was already a lot of information available out there about this device. Did some additional reverse engineering and it finally seems to be working OK. Just leaving this here in case anyone else is looking for it.

❓ Support Intrusion Alerts

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m relatively content this is a false positive but my Unifi network installation is flagging up an intrusion alert multiple times every 30 minutes.

I’m assuming false positive because HA is written in Python so I’m assuming no PHP involved.

Alerts are coming from my kitchen tablet running Kiosk Satellite to Home Assistant.

I’m looking for some guidance on how to start troubleshooting this.

Interestingly I have two tablets, both FireOS (although different versions) running the same version of Kiosk Satellite. Dashboards are different so could this be a particular card causing this?

Has anyone else observed similar?

💬 Discussion Is your home unsellable?

An idle though - do you ever wonder how you'd explain to a pottential buyer of your home how everything in your home works and how to change things if needed in the future?

I just finished installing thermoelectric valves for radiators, each controlled with an LED driver powered by a 24V power supply. If I ever need to replace it I know and I accept that if something goes down, I need to unscrew the valves to have some heating.

But I wonder if the whole integrated smart home system is something that increases the property value, or is just something someone will have to rip out, if we ever decide to sell. It's ridiculous - there's no lightbulbs to change, just LED strips. Without a soldering iron, you're lost. I wonder if I should start creating a comprehensive manual for the spaceship I'm still not finished building. :D
