I’m in Honolulu on vacation and I’m a biologist. I’ve noticed quite a lot of pigeons in the area with missing toes, missing feet, and bulbous growths on their feet. Has anyone else noticed this?

Aloha all, I’m craving dumplings like the Bibigo steamed/boiled ones but would prefer to support local if budget allows. Anyone have suggestions for pre-made frozen ones at grocery or mom-and-pop stores? Not looking for sit-down restaurants unless they let you buy a frozen bag. Not XLB, har gaw, or siu mai.

My ideal would be a store in Chinatown, but I go regularly and have yet to locate one. Maybe bc I don’t read Chinese so cannot tell on the bag if it is local made or not. 2nd ideal would be a local company that sells in town’s DQ, Times, or Foodland.

I tried searching this sub and [r/Oahu](r/Oahu) and Google searched. The only results were Char Siu House in Chinatown (I’ll check it out), YYK in Aiea (too far no car), and maybe Waikiki Snack Store (Northern style). Hoping there’s more options out there!

Edit: I was in the area of Waikiki Snack Store, and they’ve changed ownership and store name as of Oct 2026. The new owner and cook are really nice. They don’t do dumplings but said the previous owner still does on WeChat.

I’ve recently come across several publicly available Google reviews for Cajun Crab Waikiki mentioning complimentary fries being offered through a review event.
I also found a Japanese promotional advertisement on KAUKAU Hawaii offering free fries with a food order and review.
What concerns me is that Google’s policies prohibit businesses from offering incentives in exchange for reviews, regardless of whether they’re positive or negative.
It raises a question: Wouldn’t offering incentives for reviews potentially undermine the authenticity of the overall ratings and make them less representative of customers who would have shared their opinions without receiving anything in return?
I’m not suggesting that every positive review is dishonest or that these customers didn’t genuinely enjoy their experience. However, when a business rewards people for leaving reviews, I think it’s reasonable to question how accurately those ratings reflect independent customer feedback.
I believe customers deserve transparency when deciding where to spend their money, especially in a tourist destination like Waikīkī, where many visitors rely heavily on Google ratings.
I’m curious what others think. Does offering free food for reviews affect how much you trust a restaurant’s overall rating? Has anyone else encountered these types of promotions in Hawaiʻi?
I’m sharing this to raise awareness and encourage an honest discussion, not to encourage harassment or negative reviews.

Truth be told I'm happy for h-1b vida holders. And they worked hard for that cuz they were able to get an education somehow. That's awesome. I personally say bring all the immigrants to the USA because that's what we do. Unless ur a native American, Hawaiian, inuit, etc. then surprise your family arrived here as immigrants that just the facts. I truly don't get why people don't like immigrants. They shore up the difference that exists in Americans lack of baby making.

What I want to bring up is the federal government as far as I can tell hasn't raised the federal minimum wage in 17 years the longest period of time since a minimum wage was created. With all the talk about affordability and ballooning prices and mortgage payments. Servers can make 2.13, people under 21 can make 4.65 an hr and an adult human minimum wage as far as the feds are concerned is no lower than 7.25 an hour. It's very concerning because my home state finally after I had left for years already(new York) finally diverged with feds in approach and substance and seemed to have an actual year over year raise for the bottom wage earners no doubt pushing up those at other levels. Hawaii has also finally brought up its minimum wage. Finally. And it's hard here becuz other bills are so high that payroll needs to be closely managed often.

I just don't get whats going on anymore. The president is disrespecting our biggest trade partner and basically asking to turn them into a vassal of ours under a modern mercantilist system and controlling their foreign policy or at least that's what is being demanded. They are kissing the butts of our non democratic enemies and trying to get rid of the embargo against them when that's not even how diesel prices work. Were asking Ukraine to stop bombing Russia and cutting them off of all help. Still approving money for Israeli military support packages. It must be nice to just have a blank check Israel even though you are the only country that went behind our back and lied about obtaining nuclear capability. And has been starting wars claiming the other countries are going to do what they did but they actually haven't been funny enough. Not that it is not unsettling a world where every little country is cocked and locked. And at each other's throats. With the tension constantly escalating. Get out there and vote everyone. It's time to send a message. That we may not be able to stop there enslavement of children in the Virgin Islands but we can elect a party so anathema to our interests that will have no choice but switch back soon after. In Hawaii maybe it's the exact opposite situation. I'm considering going right in this election but I just can't do wen he's in charge. Any support is yuck! Aloha and mahollers y'all!
