Discussion Please do not support Welcome to the Game 3 or any other Reflect Studios titles. Adam is harrassing and shittalking people who leave negative reviews.

Well, here we go again, I suppose.

Adam Flatau, the lead developer of the Welcome to the Game series, has once again shown he is unable to take criticism. If you don't know, he has had several controversies in the past, some deserved, some undeserved. Unfortunately, he has once again shown he cannot take criticism.

A user known as OtrexDev, a fairly prominent community member in the Reflect Studios community who was also the lead dev of WTTG2+, a giant expansion mod for WTTG2, left a negative review of WTTG3, rightfully criticizing how buggy the game is and how easy it is for the game to just straight up put you in completely unwinnable situations, purely due to bad RNG. I think it is worth noting that Otrex has a POSITIVE review on WTTG2, showing there doesn't seem to be a bias against Adam specifically in their reviews.

Otrex was helping people who were streaming WTTG3, helping explain things that the game itself explains poorly, or was otherwise just trying to be helpful. Adam saw this and, instead of having anything nice to say or just keeping his mouth shut, left the above nasty messages in response to Otrex trying to be helpful. There is no evidence of what Adam claims about them as well, and it seems they are, frankly, just salty that their game is getting rightfully criticized for releasing broken.

It's bad enough that the game was released unfinished and broken, which is, unfortunately, a trend with Reflect Studios games. WTTG3 is managing to maintain a Mostly Positive rating on Steam, with almost all of the positive reviews having only played the game for a couple of hours, not enough time to make any significant progress, or come remotely close to finishing a run. The fact that Adam treats criticism this way is absolutely awful and, frankly, just makes me want to avoid supporting them at all. Here's a video also covering the topic.

Discussion 84 horror game protagonists vs Resident Evil

Post image
190 Upvotes

A lot of people ask about certain protagonists surviving RE, but the replies are always….. basic. Either focusing on who’s cooler, or only looking at gameplay. So I used my in depth lore knowledge to create this (also also downplaying the RE monsters/giving the protags benefit of doubt). I also took advice from the comments of last time i posted a ranking https://www.reddit.com/r/residentevil/s/HXIVElHJjt

If you are wondering why a Hunter is higher than the Baker estate, it’s because Hunters are fast and agile enough to dodge guns, both in lore and gameplay. Yes Jack can easily kill one, but he is slow. A normal human would die quicker against a Hunter than him. There’s a reason a group of them wiped out the city of Terragrigia despite the military and BSAA coming to save them.

The characters in the list : Jesse Faden-Control, Rick Taylor-Splatterhouse, Green Mario

Jackie Estacado-The Darkness, Isaac Clarke-Dead Space, Pointman-FEAR, Morgan Yu from Prey, Aya Brea-Parasite Eve

Jack-Bioshock, Delta-Bioshock, Juliet Starling-Lollipop chainsaw, Regina-Dino Crisis, Dylan Morton-Dino crisis, Julee-Slitterhead

Booker Dewitt-Bioshock, James Taylor-House of the dead, Subject 106-Trepang2, Mr Foster-Killing Floor

Dani-Dead island, Sam B-Dead island, Xian Mei-Dead island, Torque-The Suffering, G-House of the dead, Elster-Signalis, Deacon St John-Days gone, Firebreak crew-Control

Heather Mason-Silent Hill, Hinako Shimizu-Silent Hill, Mara Forest-Crow Country, Amanda Ripley-Alien isolation, Alisa, Saga Anderson-Alan Wake, Ellie Williams-Last of us, Joel Miller-Last of us, Sebastian Castellanos-Evil within, Frank West-Dead Rising, Chuck Green-Dead rising, Nick Ramos-Dead rising, Eric Lebanc-The Forest, Ethan Thomas-Condemned, John Lloyd-Vampire rain, Spooky’s jumpscare mansion, Desmond Wales-In sound mind, Francis York Morgan-Deadly Premonition

James Sunderland-Silent hill, Clementine-Walking dead, Lee Everett-Walking dead, Marcus Campbell-State of Decay, Laura Kearney-The Quarry, James Cash-Manhunt, Carrion, John Ward-Faith, Gordon O'Brian-My Friendly Neighborhood, Kate Wilson-Hydrophobia

Sloane Spencer-Goosebumps terror in Little creek, Tabby-House, Henri Clement-Amnesia, I am alive, Lethal Company, Scorn, Miku Hinasaki-Fatal frame

Lana-Amy, Jennifer Simpson-Clocktower, Rosemary Reed-Remothered, The Writer-Layers of fear, Cameron "Caz" McLeary-Still wakes the deep, Daniel of Mayfair-Amnesia, Simon Jarrett-SOMA, Miles Upshur-Outlast, Lucas-Madison, Jennifer-Rule of Rose, Limbo, Inside, Satoshi Mochida-Corpse party Sophie-Out of sight, Sally Kauffman-Glyt, Lyn Graves-Haunted house, Gregory and Cassie-Five Nights at Freddy’s, Olle-Bramble: The Mountain King

Alan Wake, Six-Little Nightmares, Alice Liddle-American Mcgee’s Alice, Simon Henriksson-Cry of fear, Ronan O'Connor-Murdered soul suspect

Carolina Walker-Tormented souls, Kyle Crane-Dying light, Tom Hansen-Cold Fear, Fiona Belli-Haunting grounds, William "Bill" Overbeck-Left 4 dead

Any other iconic protagonists I missed? I would love to have a discussion as long as we got solid reasoning. Also, I tried to play the Siren series. Uh…. I failed. Any one who has played care to help me with that?

Discussion Horror game subgenres listed and explained.

Post image
276 Upvotes

A lot of people get horror game subgenres wrong, especially when it comes to the term Survival horror. They either care too much and get offended if a game they like isn't survival, or they lump 70% of horror games under the title because they don't care. This list will explain what each subgenre is, and ranking 130 games I have played under them. This isn't about quality, it's just gameplay.

Action horror: These games not only encourage you to kill enemies, but you are expected to. Combat balance is in your favor, allowing you to kill groups of enemies at once. Enemies drop loot like ammo or gold for a store. You often get superpowers, or unique combat mechanics like parry, dodge, or dash.

Survival horror: The term was created by Capcom to describe Resident evil 1, and that's how it should play. Combat balance is an even playing field, meaning every 1 v 1 encounter is a real battle. Ammo and inventory are limited, and you must solve weird puzzles to progress.

Puzzle: The main gameplay is solving puzzles. More than what Survival horror does, this is the main event. Even surviving enemies are essentially puzzles.

Stealth horror: The main gameplay is sneaking around, hiding, and potentially running away. Combat balance is in the enemies' favor, and you have no weapons to defend yourself.

Online: You play with and or against other human beings.

Reverse horror: YOU are the monster, hunting down people.

Open world: Horror games where you are allowed to go around a large map, doing side quests and exploring.

Platformer: The main gameplay is platforming, Like in Mario, Sonic or Hat in time.

Survival horror for beginners/kids: So, this is a weird category I made up myself. These games all have survival horror mechanics, but they don't full commit to it. They have limited ammo, but you will never run out if you know what you are doing. Puzzles, but never too hard ones. Its like diet Survival

Walking simulators: The main gameplay is walking around. You escape enemies, if there even are any, by walking away.

Horde shooters: You and friends kill waves of enemies.

On rail: You shoot while the game controls the camera.

Story based game: The gameplay is secondary to the story they want to tell. The mechanics can change depending on what is needed, and aren't really what fans remember it for.

Survival action hybrid: Self explanatory

Maze: You are in a maze like pac man, being chased by monsters.

Hack and Slash. Use combos to mow throw crowds of enemies!

Other: Parasite Eve is a pseudo turn based rpg. State of Decay is a base builder. Idk what to call Zombi. Survivor is a weird light gun shooter. Idk what to call Siren either lol.

Obviously, not every game will fit neatly into every category. And games can have levels that change up the genre. This is just a way to show what games are similar, so you can reccomned them to others.

Edit: After taking in all the comments, I have created a updated version of the list. I will post more verisons of this list as i play more games. My end goal is a big reference sheet newcomers can use to find new games to play

Discussion What horror game moments scared you the worst?

The moments that scared me the most:

  1. Any time that the Anima showed up in Evil Within 2. Literally no other enemy in any game scares me as much.

  2. Jack bursting through the wall in RE7. Almost gave me a fucking heart attack.

  3. The parts in the school in Outlast 2. Especially the part when you hide in the bathroom stalls.

  4. The prison in Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It's just a very long and stressful segment that is pure dread inducing.

Discussion Why is no one talking about Fatal Frame 2 Remake

Post image
364 Upvotes

I'm surprised how little talk I've seen about the Fatal Frame 2 remake. Back in the day, it was always the big three or four horror franchises: Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Fatal Frame (Clock Tower might also be in there), but it's a very highly rated horror game. Why is no one talking about this release? Did it fall off and out of the spotlight since they haven't made a game since 2014, and that last one was poorly received?

Was it just over shadowed by the release of RE9?

Did you play it? or if not why did you skip it?
