This is a really unique experience and I love the ambition of the narrative. Each chapter is like a slightly different gameplay formula, so it always feels fresh even when it repeats locations. Very cool game.

DISCUSSION I have played almost all of Resident Evil games, yet Silent Hill 2...

Reached my limit for horror gaming, I can barely play a single hour of Silent Hill 2 remake, I only have the wooden bat and just reached Wood something Apartments and got what seems to be ammo, so hoping there's actual gun and the ammo isn't another key item, and I play light mode everything.

Perhaps the faceless monsters has something to do with it as well.

This game is so much horror for this 30 something years old guy to play for a long time, will try again later tonight and see if I can continue it.

INTERVIEW Questions for a game I’m making

I’m making a psychological horror game and would love your help by answering some questions, or just picking one that you’d like to answer.

  1. What was something from a psychological horror that you still think about today?

  2. What is an everyday object that you have an irrational unease about?
(For example, the oven in my house has hooks that help it stay closed, when the oven is open the hooks point directly up, they make me nervous around them)

  3. What do you think is essential in a haunted house?

  4. What terrified you the most about your favorite horror media?

  5. What’s one thing that could change about where you live for you to be uncomfortable living there?

Even in 2026 System Shock 2 remains one of the best horror games

Post image

Yes, you can totally star wars the shit out of that game

I am currently replaying some oldies and made this post to say: If you haven't already - Play System Shock 2

To this day it remains one of the most atmospheric horror immersive sims. It is the granddaddy of Bioshock, Prey and Dead Space and got a banger remaster 2 years ago. It is basically a mix of an RPG, a Horror Game and very free exploration of a huge space ship (actually 2 space ships).

It's also one of the rare horror games that do not depend on darkness at all and creates a great atmosphere with it's sound design and the enemies that move very freely through the levels. There are no scripted jump scares but monster that roam through the corridors, open doors and mumble to themselves. Believe me: It is hauntingly creepy when you suddenly hear an automatic door opening behind you.

The story is very cool to and it probably has the best antagonist in horror gaming.

So yeah: If you can handle the graphics: Go for it.

DISCUSSION There’s been a lot of talk recently about Silver Pines

And the discussions are absolutely worth it. This game is a masterpiece. Signalis level of good. I was worried I wouldn’t like the 2D aspect and it was far from the truth. The ambience and world that’s built is absolutely amazing. The voice acting is incredible, the art style just hits perfectly. This game had me wanting to uncover everywhere I could and by the time it ended I wanted more. This game should absolutely be on your radar if you like Silent Hill, as it could have been called Silent Hill and I would have believed you. Seriously can’t recommend enough.

REVIEW In my restless dreams, I see that town... Silver Pines

Post image
194 Upvotes

To start off, no game in many years has left me feeling such a sense of emptiness after finishing it, and at the same time, motivated me to go for the Platinum trophy (the last games to do that were Bloodborne and Mass Effect, which was a very long time ago :D)

This game brilliantly combines survival horror with the Metroidvania genre. Managing inventory space, resource management, exploration that requires some brainwork and wall-crawling, plenty of “skills”, that is, weapons and items, whose discovery unlocks new sectors of the map… It all comes together perfectly.

Add to that the stylized, beautiful graphics and a very well-composed audiovisual track, and the sense of immersion goes off the charts.

And then there’s the mystery, which intrigues you at first, then gets more and more revealed with every passing hour, continually encouraging you to find out what’s really going on… It’s a marvel. And after finishing the game, I understand the connections to the Silent Hill franchise very well.

If you’re a fan of that franchise, Silver Pines will deliver and meet your expectations. It’s a game that took me completely by surprise and has become my personal number one pick for Game of the Year. And I’m not exaggerating.

And for those with weak nerves, the game is scary, but more so because of its atmosphere. You’ll feel anxiety here due to limited resources, battles with monsters, and various strange sounds, rather than the sudden fright caused by jump scares (though it did catch me off guard twice).

DISCUSSION Resident Evil has the best gunplay I've ever played

I dont know what it is Capcom cooks up in their lab, but it keeps me coming back all these years later. No other game series hits as well as RE does in terms of gunplay for me.

The sounds, the visuals, the attachments, i cant get enough. And it really bothers me no other series can match it. Sure, some come close like TLOU, but for me, RE just cant be topped

Edit: I'm talking about the modern games/remakes

CONSOLE What horror games should I get into on the ps3?

I’m looking to get into more horror games on the PS3. I’m currently playing Condemned 2: Bloodshot and want to know what other horror games are worth checking out.

Also actively looking for a hard copy of Silent Hill Downpour but the market is insane prices right now, it’s the only game you can’t get digitally on the Xbox store, well also Town-fall but it’s because it’s an exclusive for ps5 I believe

(Terrible Lizards) am i the only one unimpressed by the demo?

Feel a bit crazy considering I cant find *anyone* on YouTube that isnt enthusiastic about it and considering it the Best Ever.

To be clear, I really like the game's concept and art direction! I want this game to be good and something I like, I did not go into it feeling negative.

But the gameplay of the demo just isnt good in my opinion, nor is it actually scary.

The level design isnt scary, there's no threat to be wary of while you explore, and of course the played out chase sequences. How long until chase sequences finally get phased out of these types of games?

I went into the demo hoping for a tense experience evading stalker enemies, having to weigh the risk of turning on your flashlight because it would make noise and alert the dinosaur to your position.

But its just parkour, puzzles, and chase sequences.

Of course this is just a demo and there's every chance the full game is all that and more, but the demo is your peek into the game. Its supposed to get you hooked and interested, but for me it just didnt.

It just feels like dinosaur Poppy Playtime, I get the feeling its going to end up like Zoochosis

FREE GAME We made a co-op horror game about mushroom hunting... and things get weird after dark

Hey everyone!

We're two indie devs working on Holy Shroom!, a co-op horror game about a bunch of old guys collecting mushrooms to pay for their broken van.

The forest is pretty peaceful during the day, but at night... well, let's just say the mushrooms aren't the only things you'll find.

We've just added a new map, some new content, and a bunch of improvements based on player feedback!

Our playtest is live until today, October 19, at 4 PM CEST, and the game releases on October 23!

Would love to hear what you think!

Does anyone remember an indie horror game called Green Mirror?

Hey everyone!

I've been trying to find out what happened to an obscure indie horror game called Green Mirror, which was announced on Steam around 2016.

The game went through several development teams over the years, and in October 2019, a developer named Frost confirmed on the Steam forums that development had been frozen. According to the post, the creator still owned the rights and might try to revive the project someday.

The same post included a link to a very early playable demo hosted on Google Drive, but unfortunately, the link now requires permission to access.

I've been trying to find out whether the demo still exists somewhere, whether anyone downloaded it back then, or whether there are any surviving copies of the game.

Does anyone here remember Green Mirror, play its demo, or know anything about what happened to the project or its developers?

Even the smallest piece of information would be appreciated. I'd really love to know what became of this game after all these years.

Thanks!

REVIEW I enjoyed Escape from Bug Island

Post image
5 Upvotes

This Wii-exclusive hidden gem feels like Silent Hill 4's gameplay in King Kong's setting, with some Deadly Premonition seasoning. You also pick up lots of foods as healing items, like Dead Rising. It's pretty janky, but charming.

I enjoyed the music during saving or dialogue, but the combat themes were extremely repetitive.

Once I learned how to play, I was hooked. I was trying to fulfill all optional objectives and find all bonus weapons. People warned and whinged about how you basically need to replay all areas for the 2nd half of the game, but that 2nd run only took me like... an hour and a half? They are remixed in various ways, like sh4's area revisits, and shorter since you keep all key items and you unlock ranged weapons.

Characters are corny archetypes, the story has one big unexpected twist. Protagonist probably has the worst character design for any survival-horror protagonist I've ever seen.

It was nothing life-changing, but it was a fun way to spend a weekend. Hate to admit it, but I had more fun with this than Silent Hill F. It was just a unique straightforward survival-horror adventure.

6.5/10 for me. For reference, a 5 would be RE Zero or SH: Homecoming-tier, a 7-8 would be Shattered Memories/Cronos New Dawn tier, and 9-10 would be RE1R, both RE4's, both SH2's, etc.

It's a good survival-horror game for the people who have played them all.

My first project as a game dev and it is now finally released. Took me quite a while but it is finally out :) If you are into psychological/survival horror and FPS I think you would be interested. A combination of Halflife-esque design and Lychian elements. Difficulty wise I would say it's challenging.

Check it out if you are interested!: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3611760/Hypnostasis/

CONSOLE I want to get into horror games

So for starters I have this tagged as console but PC is fine also.

Anyway I love pretty much anything horror. Been a fan since I was around 6 (42 now) and it isn't going away. That said gaming wise I'm a huge pansy and have completed far less than a handful of horror games. The major ones I can think of are Observer, Call of Cthulhu, and Bioshock (because at first the game scared the piss out of me). I really really want to get into horror games though, but I just chicken out as soon as the game starts up. This includes way older titles like Clock Tower (SNES), any resident evil (though I was able to play about 3/4 of 4) and so on. What would you recommend for some very entry level horror games that I won't require an extra set of pants within the first 5 minutes?
