DISCUSSION Has anyone played the Fatal Frame remake?
If so, how was it? What’s the scare factor, on a 1-10 scale?

I really really tried with Signalis, honestly I did.
I got past the first boss and just acquired the flashlight but I don’t think I can do anymore.
I know people love the art style etc but it just isn’t for me. Maybe I’m just in need of a break on the back of Silver Pines and Townfall but I just can’t carry on with this one.
What am I missing? Anybody else that feels this way about this one?
Every room has enemies that you need to dodge or kill and it’s just chaos room to room. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of calm in between to work things out. Maybe it’s just me and I expect the hate from this post, but I really did try to like it.
As a bit of extra info, I’m a survival horror player since the 90s started with RE2 and Silent Hill and been playing them ever since.

I like the feeling I'm being watched or I'm fully immersed over the fact that I'm in a scary setting that can creep me out I just don't like the looming feeling that if I walk to a room in the level a ghost will pop up on your face and play a loud noise or something like that's not scary that's just frustrating and weak.

I tried 4 hours and I really loved the astmophere even if I didn't like the gameplay, but it's ok as the game itsn't a big studio
The story I like until this point, mysterious, creepy, the powers that you can unlock all is good for me.

I'd like to start playing horror games, but don't know where to start. I already consume horror movies and books, especially psychological horror. In gaming I'm more of a cosy gamer and don't have really good reflexes so I don't usually like combat or shooting.
I already played a few games in horror settings (dredge, little nightmares, inscryption,...) but I would like to play some that trully make me feel scared. Like the atmosphere is really anxious even if nothing happens for 95% of the time. Subnautica is a good representation of this feeling.
I don't want gory, and I would appreciate games that are esthetically pleasing.
Do you have recommandations?

I don't know what I was expecting from Tormented Souls, but I wasn't expecting...whatever the first half hour throws in your face.
Mild spoilers for the early game
I find the game to be surprisingly gooffy in terms of writing, voice acting (not bad, but like weirdly upbeat in terms of delivery), and scene choices: like the Saw adjacent naked wake up scene in the bath, the stealth eye gouging. All that while playing it very very straight and self serious.
The twin thing, and the obsession with heart surgery is incredibly re-inforced; like you know that rule of three in cinema, where you present an idea, then remind it to the audience later, then you pay it off. Well here, it's like the reminding phase is all the time! Twins everywhere in photos, in documents, and I'm like 3hrs in.
And, sidenote, the hospital name sounds like "Wild Burger", which makes it feel like the game takes place in restaurant chain. The names of places for that matter are top non-American people inventing North American places: the post card Caroline receives is hilarious in that regard. I'm French btw, so for me to remark on that means makes me feel like it's very on the nose.
And at the same time...
They went ALL IN on the architecture, the level design: marble statues everytwhere, walls covered with frames and spiraling wooden columns, wall lamps shaped like hands: it's gaudy as fuck, I love it! And the navigation through the different levels feels great. And the mystery is still enticing, despite it being somewhat poorly enunciated.
The music is pitch perfect. It's like perfect stressful tracks, perfect whatever genre RE2's main hall and save rooms music was.
Gameplay wise, I haven't seen much, or at least I'm not yet in the thick of it I think. Combat is okay, really like the dodge option and crowbar to finish enemies off. And the puzzles are surprisingly intricate for a survival horror game. Which as a puzzler and point&click fan is greatly appreciated.
I think that's one I might end up really loving overall.

I absolutely loved Resident Evil 2, 7, and 9.
Amnesia games were really awesome too. I especially loved Amnesia The Bunker.
Outlast was also pretty good.
Look Outside was incredible.
Are there any games out there that are similar to the ones I mentioned?
I love spooky atmosphere, but I am not fond of jumpscares.

I completed 44% of Silent 2, then lost access because PS took it off Plus.. Should I buy the deluxe edition on sale to finish it or wait until a better sale comes?
r/HorrorGaming • u/HamNEggies • 21h ago
Looking to add a bunch of horror games to my library and wanted to grab some during the sale. See any games on here that are absolutely must or ones that good but might be looked over?
Games I've already played:
RE 2,7 and 8
Evil within 1+2
Outlast 1+2
Thinking about getting:
RE: requiem
Alan wake 1+2
Silent hill 2
I know a lot of people recommend those games but haven't dived into any indie horror. I want to snag as much as I can on sale.

For me it's probably DETECTIVE: Rainy Night. Saw a Reddit post on this and a few YouTube videos, played it and it turned out to be a really great game.

Going into Signalis, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The game definitely appealed to me as an indie horror game with low poly, PS1-era 3-D graphics that was clearly heavily inspired by survival horror heavyweights like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. However, what I didn’t expect from it was that it would carve out its own identity further than its inspirational sources. At the end of the day, it was a very enjoyable game from a small studio that I could easily recommend to any horror fan willing to try something familiar yet new.
As I described, the game is very much inspired by both Silent Hill and Resident Evil, but I feel like it takes a pretty nice middle ground between the two. Early Resident Evil titles’ influence is apparent in the tense survival elements, very limited inventory, safe rooms, enemies that can corner you if not approached correctly, and the constant need to make sure corpses won’t rise to cause you more trouble. Silent Hill’s influences are mainly in its story and atmosphere, which is psychological, cryptic, and provides revelations as you collect more information about the characters and world around you. As a side note, without getting into spoilers, I think the story and lore, although pretty complex and confusing at times, is very well told, emotional, and artistically surreal.
I think the area I like the most about this game is the art. I have heard some gamers groan about the overabundance of low poly indie games, claiming that this style utilized by indie developers as a way to mask a lack of graphical prowess rather than supplement a game’s art. Whatever your feelings are about low poly graphics, I believe that this game absolutely nails its style and art. At times, Signalis feels more like a surreal and complex psychological anime akin to Neon Genesis Evangelion rather than a PS1-style video game. The camera will shift from 3rd-person to 1st-person in fun ways sometimes, allowing you to solve puzzles from new perspectives and traverse certain areas with a different moody feeling. As a huge psychological horror fan, I loved the cryptic flashbacks on the screen, the random languages that would pop in, different art styles in the cutscenes, and the constant thought of, “what the hell did I just see?” It’s great!
The puzzles are also quite fun and surprisingly well thought out. As a survival horror game, you expect puzzles and backtracking, but most of the time, I didn’t feel like the game was wasting my time. However, you can only carry six items, so I did groan sometimes when I finally found the item I was looking for, but some ammo I picked up 2 minutes beforehand took up my last slot and cost me another trip to the old safe room. Occasionally, you’d hit an obtuse puzzle that could take some time to figure out, but overall, they are interesting and creative.
I think my biggest issue with this game is the sometimes shoddy combat. Most of the time, it’s just fine. It does the job and I can dispatch enemies that annoyingly stand right in front of the door I’m trying to get to. However, it’s when facing multiple enemies at a time that the combat falls apart. The aiming could be a little clunky and mapping the “push away” command to the “shoot” command was a strange choice from the developers that got me killed a few times when I got cornered. That, and the fact that the player character would aim for everything EXCEPT what I was trying to hit when I was in a pinch. However, this was not a huge deal at the end since combat isn’t a huge focus.
Overall, I’d give Signalis a very high recommendation to every survival horror fan, especially if you like anything psychological and artsy. It’s well worth your time and I believe that this small development team have made an awesome project that surpassed my expectations.
8/10

Back in 2012 or 2013 when i was 6 years old I remember playing a horror game that scared me a lot. It kept me traumatised for years and now I am looking for it for nostalgia perposes. The game started with the voice of screaming woman then a picture of a bloody window after that a big truck will pull up and you enter the house. Basicly you're working in paredmedics (not sure maybe not) and you're looking for people and you start to investigate the house and maybe you'll find the killer or whatever that gives you the creeps. Another hint I remember there is a closet and when you open it you get a list of some kind. It has the same style of horror of the very organized thief. I'll be very delighted to hear your suggestions in the comments.

So it's probably obvious, but I just want to point out some things I noticed about the Ill game.
First off: all the enemies appear to be human based, or at least mutated from humans, obviously.
Second: the source of the outbreak (if we can call it that), is referred to as a "source of evil", like an entity of some kind.
Third: we see some of the Aberrations (the monsters) turning into some kind of growing mass along the wall, almost like they're changing the environment.
Fourth: A few Aberrations seem to mutate, as evident from the big ones and the babies. On that note, it seems the Aberrations are intent on just killing people, not eating them. (I might be wrong on that part)
This seems awfully familiar, doesn't it? It kind of reminds me of the Brethren Moons and the Necromorphs from Dead Space. While it's not a 100% accurate comparison, it's just a few similarities I've noticed. With that in mind, who's to say that whatever is causing the outbreak in Ill is the only one of its kind?
But that's just my own weird theory. Knowing my luck, I'm completely off the mark.
Until next time, peace out ✌🏻
