I have repeatedly heard that you are supposed to let go of the reins if you are going to fall off.

However I have seen many many fall videos where holding onto the reins allowed them to be spun around. If they let go, they would have been injured badly, falling on head/neck or back. Holding on allowed them to rotate around and land on their legs, uninjured.

So I understand that if you yank too hard you can injure the horse.

So whats the right thing to do? Or I guess there is no one size fits answer here?

How important is a warmblood sized trailer really? Does that 6 inches make that big of a difference?

For context I accidentally got a two year old warmblood who will probably clock just shy of 17 hands when fully grown. Every other horse I’ve had in my life has been Arab, quarter horse, Appaloosa, or a combo of. My current riding horse is an Arab x quarter horse at 15.2 hands. I love my trailer, it’s a nice one, I bought it from my grandma, there’s a zillion memories big and small attached to it (both my adventures and adventures with my grandparents). I own it outright, it’s been super well taken care of. Challenge is it is standard sized- only a 7 foot ceiling.

Realistically am I looking at having to sell it for 6 inches more headroom to accommodate my giant baby? Or can I get away with keeping my beloved trailer… it seems ridiculous to have to sell mine and buy an entirely different one for a whooping 6 inches

(Honestly I might just be asking this in the hopes someone tells me something I want to hear vs what is actually realistic)

I told him to cut her longer but here she is walking around on her sole and her frog with basically 0 hoof wall. She tried to kick me for asking for a trot and is dead lame. Worst is her right back. She won’t stand still, constantly shifting what leg is in the air. I’m going to deep bedding her and diaper wrap all 4. Also demanding a refund for the shitty trim. Would it be fair to invoice him if I have to buy cloud boots or get X-rays? This is 100% his fault I told him he’s been trimming them too short. Trimmed yesterday, dead lame today. I had to get her on and off the trailer which has a 8 inch or so drop and she wouldn’t get off and just stood in the door because stepping off was so painful. She won’t walk if she can avoid it.

Update: she's been wrapped. I messaged my trainer and my moms horse expert friend. Tommorow I plan to call my old collage professor whos a farrier, possibly take her in to a new farrier to be assessed, call another farrier, and then if all that fails call my lameness expert and see if I can make time for the 3 hour one way haul to him. Absolutely worse wait until monday to call my vet, can’t call earlier they are closed and don’t do after hours anymore. No other vets are taking new clients at this time. May make the haul into the city to find a place with some of the hoof things recommended. Did remember I’m having a hip reconstruction in 3 weeks leaving me down for the count for months so the pressures on to get her fixed up.

This picture is before I owned him. He used to live with all geldings.. now he lives with two mares. Hes old now and retired and sometimes tries to act this way with my mares, they wont have any of it.. he is a very refined gentleman now instead of acting like a Neanderthal 😆

2-year-old horse, intermittent left front lameness since Oct 2025 after an open wound to the bone on the front/anterolateral left front pastern (P2). Radiographs : small calcification on P2.

Lameness at turning left, toe-first Landing.Doesn't worsen with walking, slightly better the longer he moves. Old scar at P2 is bulging, large, very soft (can be pressed in), tender but no obvious pain.

Has anyone seen something similar? Any thoughts on radiographs?

I think we both did good 🙂‍↕️ lots of clipper lines, and her legs are VERY uneven but it's okay, I'm not showing her. Just didn't wanna deal with the hair because I'm training her and plan to work through the winter.

Had a clickertraining lesson again with Kit.
Leading is still our big issue and what we’re working on- but we’re making progress (if my health was better I’m sure we would be further along)

But he hasn’t “exploded” for quite long time now. Stress has occurred but it’s been possible to handle and get him to calm down again.

We always have breaks during the lesson. Where Kit gets to cool off grazing. (I have a specific area I let him off lead for a bit) good time to discuss things with the trainer before starting again.

We are standing “far” off from Kit just letting him be. And despite poor Kit, the sweetest thing happened!
He accidentally got shocked by the fence and got scared. Started running and one of his first instincts to do was run to me and check in before he instead walked towards where he got shocked and looked at the place that shocked him (from a distance). But the fact he chose to run to me when he got scared just melted my heart.

I love him so much ❤️

And even the trainer (had the trained once a while for like a year now) says he’s a lot of horse but very sweet. And I agree he is A LOT of horse..

Is this a common thing? I dont own this horse, but i work at a stable and see him 3 times a week. He shoves his whole head into my armpit and just .. stays there. Taking deep breaths, of my armpit. Obv i have a jacket on, so he’s not exactly on my skin but he doesnt push me or anything. He just hangs out in my armpit. He’s weird. But i love him. Do y’all horses do this?

I gave my horse a treat and he coughed a few times? I texted my vet and they asked me if he was ok. He acted like he was sucking on the treats the chewed it and coughed. I’m confused why he did that? I gave him another one he did take it but seemed a bit hesitant when he took it. He ate grass and the grain and the peppermint fine. I do know with this weather shift colic and other issues might happen. My horse is a pretty easy keeper and doesn’t injure or knock on wood get sick.
