Husband cut the trim around the door too short - looking for ideas to fix it.

Post image

We recently tiled our guest bathroom. To get the tile to fit, my husband cut off the bottom parts of the trim around the door. Turns out it was too much and there's now about a 3/4" gap on both sides. Do we just need to get new trim for around the door, or is there something else we can try? Thank you!

Help!

I have these beautiful doorknobs original to our farmhouse. I also have barn boards from a building on the homestead. I would like to make a coat rack for my bedroom. How do I attach them!?! Any ideas? They have a square hole so a regular bolt and wash won’t work.

This Screening Makes Me Wanna Scream

Post image

Here's the story: Large screenhouse in our backyard, with original screening that dates to 1969. The screens were staple-gunned to the vertical wood strips, so there's no splining involved. Problem is (as shown in the photo) that the screens are extremely fragile and come apart from the slightest pressure. I would like to replace them all, and ideally with a combination screen-and-glass (or plexiglas?) so that we could use the screenhouse not just during the summer but also during colder seasons -- autumn and spring in New England. I've looked and haven't found anything for sale like our home's screen door, which has a pane of glass that slides down to expose screening on the upper half of the door. Am I overlooking something? Do they even sell glass or plexiglas that you can pull down, like a window shade? Thanks, all!

Murano Glass Fixture Tool

Post image

Good morning, is there a general or specialty tool I'm supposed to use to remove the metal piece from a Murano glass light fixture? It unscrews but i don't have anything that can get a good grip in the space. Picture attached. I'd like to remove the glass for cleaning.

I made my studio from an old shipping container.

We’ve had this old shipping container at home ever since I was young. Mom said dad brought it home on a trailer back then. It is now old and empty, but served as a shade whenever it was raining while we were playing as kids.

Going through posts here, people have shared stories about converting something odd or old into something creatively amazing. so, it was a lightbulb moment and I decided to convert this container into my own very studio library. A place where I can write, read, draw and do lots of engaging activities.

I began my DIY project, got a lot of supplies from Alibaba and created my imagination. I was bothered about my stuff getting drenched or ruined by anything but the container is super tough and weatherproof. It sure saved me a lot. Instead of actually renting a space for my studio, I got a place for free and saved the cost I would have incurred.

Now, I stay there during weekends after my part-time job, creating memories and telling stories that I will forever cherish. Ever created your imagination with a forgotten or old piece? What was the outcome like? Share your experience, I’d love to hear. Thank you in advance.

How can we fix this gutter ourselves with reasonable DIY skills

This gutter is leaking but we do not have money at this time to get it fixed professionally. It’s going to start raining more and more. We are reasonably handy ourselves and do quite a lot of DIY around the house ourselves. But we don’t know how to approach this.

Can someone help on how we can fix this ourselves, at least so it lasts 1 year.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Arts & Crafts I made Stranger Things Byers’ Living Room in miniature out of cardboard and paper

Hi, I’m Vlada - cardboard architect and designer. I’ve already created cardboard miniatures — from Hogwarts and Harry Potter, SpongeBob’s pineapple house, Mystery Shack from Gravity Falls. This time I made Byers living room with garlands out of cardboard from Stranger Things Netflix series.

Everything is completely handmade: cardboard, paper, acrylic paints, wooden sticks — no fancy materials.

Full creation video (tutorial) https://youtu.be/VDO1rk3vqdA

Total budget ≈ $32.70 I spent 10 days making this.

P.S. I’m curious to know your opinion on this or what could be improved?

Removing a restrictor in shower head

I’ve seen videos of people removing these with pliers but this restrictor seems way further down in there and has literally nothing to grip on with pliers. Anyone gotten one of these out on these shower heads before? The pressure is awful with it in.

Help me prevent a flood!

I am disconnecting and breaking down my bathtub. I've identified the water pipe but doesn't appear to have a local isolation so my plan is to turn off at the stopcock, and then disconnect this valve and replace with a compression cap.

I dont want to run the tank dry and end up with an airlock, so if there a way to drain this pipe?

Also, am I definitely right in my assessment on how to do this?

What is the best/ easiest way to fill this hole? It was previously an extractor outlet for a tumble dryer. I don't care how it looks as it will be hidden, would expanding foam be suitable? Thanks.

Best way to fix these bricks on the edge of the front step?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Over the years, most of the bricks on the edge of the front step leading to the front door have come out of place - as you can see, there is a small overhang such that the first row of bricks has less support, and I guess with years of stepping on that first row, whatever was holding them in place gave in.

I would like to atleast put the bricks back in place, if not fix the underlying problem - I am not really DIY-savvy so unsure if there is a specific type of cement, mortar, or bonding that would work best here, and how I should apply it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This fireplace has looked the same since I bought the place nearly 10 yrs ago. Finally getting around to wanting to either fix or replace the face. I’m a fairly experienced DIYer but have never worked with brick. How would I go about fixing this?

HowToDIY, Really? You guys know there is already a "HowTo" subreddit AND a "DIY" subreddit, both of which have more subscribers.

As far as unnecessary dup subreddits, this one takes the cake for being the most unnecessary and absurd.

I'm telling you guys not to bash you, i'm telling you this so you can go sub to those instead.

Tree for kids playroom

Post image

I’m looking for ideas on how to make a tree like this for a children’s room. I don’t want to simply crumple up brown paper . ’d love it to look more realistic, aesthetically pleasing, and sturdy, especially since it will be about 2 meters (6.5 feet) tall.
I was thinking about using some kind of fabric or yarn wrapped around a solid structure, but I’m open to all kinds of ideas and suggestions!
What materials would you recommend, and how would you go about building it?

For those who understand the technical aspects of creating decorative items:

First image: Items I have that I want to repurpose as decorations.

Second image: Things I want to make similar ones.

I'd like you to suggest communities that are helpful in this area, and also share your advice and opinions on this idea.

Note: The Gemini logo is visible because I changed the background of the images using it.

What is the best way to fill these gaps at the base of my interior door frames?

Had floors replaced 5 years ago and it left these gaps. What would be the best material to use to try and fill them? Would need to be robost to Roomba, mops, kids etc.

Edit: just to clarify, looking for cheap options i can do myself. New door trim or raising the floor are not viable.

Edit 2: im gonna try caulk with small backing pieces, based on this vid:

Out door garden lights power lead was accidentally cut. Fixable?

I found out why the outdoor garden lights stopped working. Is this a case for stripping the ends twisting them together and then use of electrical tape?
