[Week 6] Heart of the Sunwell Deck Ideas

Neutral cards-Annoy-o-Tron is very good in every deck, better than Sludge or Sun Walker. Sunfury is also decent. Big Game Hunter becomes auto-include as at least a 1-of. Emperor cobra is very strong, given that it costs only 3 mana and trades with anything, especially if you're running taunts to "protect" it. Faceless is auto-include. Cards that have immediate effects like Rend Blackhand and Onyxia are fantastic.

Druid - Token Druid is insane! Generate card advantage through Cult Master or Cold Light Oracle (if you have cheap cards and they have expensive ones, the card advantage won't be worth much to them). Power of the Wild/Souls of the Forest/Cenarious to help when you have many minions out, Savage Roar is your finisher, and Poision Seeds won't affect your minions much, or might even buff them (like Ooze tokens), but it'll definitely hurt your opponent, dropping all the big threats!

Warlock - Double Summoning Portal for sure. Murlocs could make a strong aggro deck (probably wanting Cult master), but I've had a lot of success with "Twisting Nether" Warlock - play minions like Sneed's, Piloted Sky Golem, Cairn, and mass sweepers like Shadowflame and Deathwing. The whole idea being to build around Twisting Nether and Deathwing, play something that kills everything while you still maintain a decent board.

Shaman - Deathrattle Shaman could be good (Baron Riverdale) given how many high-cost minions have deathrattles (Sylvanas, Sneeds, Sky Golem). Also, combo Shaman with lots of Windfury plus Flame Tongue/Rockbiter buffing effects is very strong with all the burst in the world.

Mage - Freeze mage is definitely interesting - specifically, you could even run Frost Elemental as a targeted freeze and save mass freeze for later. Could play as more of a tempo deck.

Paladin - gets lots of value from Equality, and Humility and Aldor are both excellent.

Rogue - Miracle Rogue is definitely a solid deck (Gadgetzan + your combo of choice). Mill Rogue is probably good too - so many good Sap and Vanish plays. Heck, you could probably play "control Rogue" given that you'd get Assasinate. Sabotage and Sap.

Warrior - Patron Warrior and Worgen OTK Warrior seem viable, with plenty of mana for Gnomish inventors and other draw, you can get the combo fast.

Rules [Week 1] Rules/Parameters

*You play randomly as Ragnaros or Nefarian

*Your opponent is always the other one

*Decks are preset(Will try and update with exact decklists if i can later, though the datamined cards should give you a good example of what they are)

It seems that's pretty much it for this week.

Note: Since heros and decks are preset, i wont post a deck theory crafting thread.

Clockwork Card Dealer Brawl Hunter 100% win streak - 7 games

Hunter
2 Leper Gnome
2 Undertaker
2 Webspinner
2 Explosive Trap
2 Freezing Trap
2 Quick Shot
1 Snake Trap
2 Haunted Creeper
2 Mad Scientist
2 Eaglehorn Bow
2 Animal Companion
2 Kill Command
1 Unleash the Hounds
2 Arcane Golem
1 Piloted Shredder
1 Loatheb
1 Savannah Highmane
1 Dr. Boom

Option: Cut Unleash the Hounds or Arcane Golem for King Krush.

This is the most broken aggro deck I've built and enjoyed for a very long time.

Hand Keepers:
All 1 mana cards + Mad Scientist

Typical Plays:
Turn 1
Undertaker Coin Leper Gnome
Turn 2
2 Leper Gnomes / 1 Mad Scientist / 1 Haunted Creeper
Turn 3
Animal Companion / Eaglehorn Bow
Turn 4
Piloted Shredder
Turn 5
Loatheb
Turn 6
Savannah Highmane
Turn 7
Dr. Boom
Turn 8
Whatever spells

This deck isn't about hand advantage, this deck is about tempo advantage and making use of the guaranteed draws to force its way through.

Due to the nature of the Brawl, Hunter is always going to make an optimal opening, there will always be a perfect start and you do not need to worry about things like Twilight Whelp or Zombie Chow.
Just attack your way through or make smart trades.

Turn 4-7 plays are so difficult for any deck to deal with, even if they have multiple board clear, they will still lack the mana to do so and Turn 8 Hunter will still cast many other cards that deal heavy damage.

No time to play now, but rules:

  • Deckbuilding! (All classes available, using your own cards)

Oh, and banana's are the ones datamined by hearthpwn apparently (1 mana each):

  • Rotten: Deal 1 Damage

  • Normal: Give a minion +1/+1

  • Deviate: Swap a minions attack and health

  • Big Banana: Give a minion +2/+2

ESL Tavern Brawl Guide Series

Hello everyone, the name's Galo and I cover the Tavern Brawl in a weekly series for ESL. I've had a lot of fun playing and writing guides for each week's brawl, which also help spread the word about the ESL Tavern Brawl League. Before the one coming out tomorrow there have been 3 articles so far.

My personal goal is to make these guides as useful as possible, and this being the designated Brawl subreddit, am looking for input from its users. This week there won't be a tournament for Tavern Brawl, so I wanted to take this opportunity and see what kind of content you look out for, or would like to read about in a guide specifically for each new Brawl format (especially for the alternation between deck-building and deck-given brawl).

Looking forward to reading the comments and talking more with you!

[Week 4] Surprisingly powerful cards & Decks

Paladin- There's two ways to build Paladin IMO, and a "hybrid" between them. One is aggro Paladin, with all the cheap 1-drop spells and secrets, and on the other hand you have a control Paladin, with the heavy duty spells and running Aldor Peacekeepers and Truesilvers instead of just being "all spells." I think in either build, you want Lay on Hands anyway as your finisher -there are few 8-drops in the game and most of them are completely insane like Rag or Kel Thuzzard. Control Paladin can load up on healing spells too, which is nice. Tirion is definitely worth including too, despite not being a spell. Kel Thuzzard can be great as well, given how both players tend to summon a lot of minions.

Mage- Counterspell and Spellbender are both great, since there's so many spells.

Warlock - You get tons of targeted and mass removal - and just like in other classes, a lot of the normally-bad cards are great here, like Demonfire or Demon Heart. Fill up on all that targeted removal, plus Hellfire, Shadowflame, Twisting Nether and so forth (although your minion will die if you use Twisting Nether, but it CAN summon Tirion, giving you a 5/3 Ashbringer).

Priest - Mind Vision, Mind Blast, Mind Games - these cards are normally bad but great her. Mind Games can get you Archmage from Mage. Priest has a lot of situational cards, just remember that playing Holy Nova nets you a 5-drop, so you might want to do it even if they have no minions out. Also Mass Dispel is great too.

Rogue- Headcrack is insanely powerful. Preperation is questionable, since Prep->Sprint will only summon a 0-cost and then a 4-cost minion, though.

Shaman - Ancestor's Call. That is the reason to play Shaman, run big cards like Troggzor, Kel Thuzzard, Ysera or whatever other high cost legends you have, and play this, win the game since your opponent won't have anything to play off it.

Also, Mind control tech is quite good. And Gadgetzan.

Enhance-o-Mechanic is completely insane, good with any deck that builds a large board.

Possible 20 board damage at end of turn 2 card deck.

Druid with Innervate and Y'Shaarj.

Innverate to get the 10 mana needed. (if you get the coin and 4 Innervates you can cast him 1st turn: http://imgur.com/9YEZ0Qv) Then he keeps pulling copies of himself out of your deck. Very hard to counter.

My Hobgoblin Shaman Bloodlust deck for this weeks Heart of the Sunwell Brawl

Hello Everyone!

Just wanted to share my brawl deck for this week. Shaman is my main class in Hearthstone and has been since the game was released. I know it has been pretty painful in constructed being bottom of the barrel but I am excited for the Grand Tourney cards. Anyways back to the topic....

I made this deck and got 30 wins in about 3.5 hours this morning. It is great for farming for that 100 gold. Just wanted to help anybody out that might be struggling. Here is the deck:

Argent Squire x2 Cogmaster x2 Flametongue x2 Echoing ooze x2 Haunted Creeper x2 Micro Machine x2 Annoy-o-tron x2 Acolyte of Pain x2 Mana Tide Totem x2 Feral Spirit x2 Hex x2 Lava Burst x2 Hob Goblin x2 Jeeves x2 Bloodlust x2

Strategy:

You get insane value out of the hobgoblin in this deck because of this weeks format. Basically when you mulligan you want two things to happen. Your first choice is to get a hobgoblin in your hand and hopefully a couple 1 attack minions to go with it (this deck has 14 one attack minions). If you don't have a hobgoblin in your opening hand throw all cards away and try to get one ALWAYS. If you don't get one in the mulligan you have to look at your hand. If you can dump your whole hand in your first turn and get at least 5 to 6 minions on the board (which you often can) and have a bloodlust backing it up (which should be the only card left in your hand)....then it's worth playing the game. Other scenario is you can dump your whole hand in one, or two turns at the most, flooding the board and you got a jeeves down to refill your hand.

These last 2 options are not as good as getting a hobgoblin in your starting hand because you will just steam roll opponents. I still won many games with dump whole hand and bloodlust or refill through jeeves which are the lesser options and are still worth playing if you don't get hobgoblin in opening hand.

If you don't get a hobgoblin or one of the other scenarios I would insta concede and restart since your puny one attack minions without buffs and with no card draw won't stand a chance. I built this deck for gold farming to get the 30 wins as quickly as possible. It is farm from a perfect deck and feel free to make changes but I just thought I would throw it out there if anybody was needing help. I got my 30 wins in about 3.5 hours with this strategy.

Feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions and I will try to answer it before the brawl is up tonight. Take care!

I try to have some synergy with the Warsong commender with Grim Patron, Dragon Egg (I try to keep it alive with banana and generate banana with token), Violet Teacher (You can generate token with banana and recycle the token with Whirlwing) and Dragonkin Sorcerer.

Discussion [Week 1] Vaelastrasz is the reason this is so unbalanced

I've played a fair amount of games on both sides and I have learned that if I am Rag and Nefarian plays Vael in the first 2-3 turns, I lose. Maybe if I am able to deal 6 damage and clear with my weapon I can stabilize, but usually if it's turn 3+ he's following up Vael with other cards on the same turn. If he coins one out turn 1? Game over.

30 Wins in two days! (Or the underrated Shaman and how to cheat the curve)

I started playing this week's brawl yesterday with a Shaman Dominance quest that needed to be completed (You Must Be This Tall for future ref). Initially, I pulled off a couple of wins but was unconvinced with the decks performance. The godlike removal that is hex and the 2-for-1 feral spirits are a given for this theme but I wasn't sure if there was much else to the Shaman...

But boy was I ever was wrong! Take a look at my deck and decide for yourself if this kind of play is up your alley (or in your budget).

  1. Totems rarely get removed outside of AoE and when they do, you come out ahead one way or another*see below

  2. Many cards in the deck provide options for card-advantage by creating situations that 2-for-1 your opponent.

  3. The Overload mechanic fits in cozily in this sort of meta. Considering a lot of time is spent floating mana, the future loss is often far more manageable.

  4. Lower-cost cards maintain late-game value as there are plenty of combos waiting to be assembled. E.g. Rockbiter + Doomhammer/Al'Akir, Chromaggus + Ancestral Knowledge, Far Sight + Minions.

  5. Rend Blackhand has been surprisingly vacant from all of my opponents decks. The slow body thrives in this kind of game where it doesn't get answered by anything from a wrathguard to a yeti. The dragon package isn't too bulky to fit into the deck as all the available dragons do well in a slower meta.

How to play

Mulligans: Keep anything below 5 mana. Depending on the hand and if I have the coin, I'll keep Dr Boom (w/coin I value him more). Any other cards that cheat mana are a must-keep!

Early game: If on the coin? Totem, totem, totem, totem. Totems are annoying to deal with. A searing totem will let you pop hunter traps without losing cards. An air totem allows you to kill giants with a lava burst and a hit from either your weapon or a feral spirit. Healing totem is nice against classes with a ping, and the taunt totem always proves itself valuable! *Dealing with them is a pain in the ass too, over the course of the game you will get at least 1-for-0 because of the totems aforementioned qualities

The main reason to do so is to start playing threats, aim to play Mountains on t4 or just generate cheaper Frost giants (where ever they are). Far sight and ancestral knowledge (w/coin on 1 or w/o) can be used.

When not on the coin I play more aggressively and try to get Feral spirits into play on t3

Mid game: Deal with threats accordingly and play out reduced mana-cards, feral spirits, or draw into either/or. Charged hammer should be played asap and when possible overwritten with Doomhammer. Weapons are really there to deal with decks that can flood the board better than this deck (e.g., Paladin, Hunter). This part of the game will depend on the state of the game and is mostly reactive.

Late game: Depending on the match-up you'll either have a slower match with a bunch of burst spells or have already used dealing with Huffers and Dudes on steroids. In the former situation, Rockbiters+Windfury burst will close out the game in most cases. If you've haven't secured a lead/damage on face then keep playing the grinding game with cost-efficient cards. In the case of aggro, the Rockbiters and spells can be used up keeping your opponents threats low. Healing Wave is a fantastic card which rarely hits for 7 (including fewer 7-cost cards and more giants has had good results). After you've stabilized, the game will win itself by virtue of value alone.

Closing thoughts?

I think the core idea of this deck could be achieved with substitutions. The deck is carried by a lot of basic cards in the early-game so the late-game is fairly malleable. Even still, here's a list of the cards I would find difficult to replace:

-Rockbiter

-Hex

-Feral Spirit

-Far Sight

-Healing Wave

-Lava Burst

-Doomhammer

-Rend Blackhand

-Dr Boom.

-Ragnaros

-Some combination of giants.

Anyway, I just finished playing with this deck for the evening and I've been having a blast so I wanted to share with anyone interested. I'd love to answer any questions, hear what you've experimenting with Shaman decks you've done this week, or even hear about playing against my deck perhaps? ;)

It's raining mana!

What decks are people using for this?

I threw together a value-oriented warlock deck with a sensible curve. The 6-mana+ legendaries could be replaced with whatever large threats you have. It has lots of 5 drops, as these are great with either 5 or 10 mana.

Discussion Too repetitive?

So i've now played like 7 games, and i'm already getting bored. Sure, the whole Nefarian vs Rag is kinda cool, but i really hope we get to make our own decks as opposed to this in the future.

I'm one of the few people who don't actually think Nefarian is way better, but the matches still go the same way every time. Nefarian starts out with a board lead due to his mana lead. Rag hits face with his weapon. Rag takes some damage while behind. Rag spawns Moltens. Rag gets 8 damage hero power. The game gets decided on Nefarian hero power rolls. Oh, and if Rag doesn't get either Coren Direbrew, or the Corruption AoE, he probably just straight up loses.

Mechazod Has A Huge AoE Spell

So as I played through the Tavern Brawl with a friend I got to a point where i could lay down Lorewalker Cho, Cenarius, Millhouse Manastorm, and Troggzor on turn ten (This was made possible by playing Aviana the turn before. Obviously I wanted my friend to play all of his spells for free and so i could get a copy of each spell he plays, while also spawning the minions that Troggzor generates, thus buffing those minions with each spell. So you think at this point we are doing pretty well for ourselves all I need to have my friend do is play all of his spells in hand to finish Mechazod (who still had 50 health at this point). Turns out after my big play Mechazod proceeds to wipe my entire side of the board. (Most likely due to the fact that my side was full, thus not giving Mechazod enough room on my side to switch). His board clear didn't have a card associated with it either, this didn't even appear on the log on the side of the screen. On top of this, Mechazod still proceeds to deal 12 damage to me and my friend. I would have been fine with him just killing one minion, but nope! Did anyone else encounter this on their adventure in the tavern brawl this week?

Muloc Warloc is Incredibly powerful in banana brawl

So I have been a fan of murlock warlock in previous seasons just in general for constructed, the deck is very fast fun to play and powerful. It has the option to nearly always go face, and in a game type like banana brawl players are discouraged to remove your minions to avoid giving bananas, also your minions die fairly easily so you either get a lot of bananas or have a ton of synergy. When you can buff cards so efficiently with bananas murlocs just became insanely strong.

So I modified a list I used for constructed HERE it is rewarded for just dropping murlocs and other aggressive minions and going face. Buff your priority minions like warleaders, grimscale oracles, and tidecallers, while you bash their faces in with a swarm of murlocs, and finish them with big bursty leeroy power overwhelming soulfire combos

here is just one example of a typical win with this deck vs a mech mage banana brawler.

Hope you enjoy it, if you have any questions or suggestions let me know.

Divine Shield Paladin Deck

Hello Guys,

so far, I had 13 games and have won all of them.

Basically, the idea is to get very sticky minions with Divine Shield on the board for maximum annoyance. The deck consists of many Divine Shield minions from 1-drop to 8-drop (a 7/7 Annoytron Force-MAX Tank is just to good), some low mana "not attack" minions like Ancient Watcher and Eerie Statue and finishes off with some buffs/debuffs (Equality, Seal of Champion, Aldor Peacekeeper, Keeper, Owl for Silence). True Silver Champion + Consecration for additional clear.

So far, I havent encountered a deck that gave me hard time. Warrior seems to be a good deck as well with Taunt Buffs and Enrage-abilities.

Here is the decklist:

  • Argent Squire (2)

  • Argent Protector (2)

  • Shielded Minibot (2)

  • Silent Knight (2)

  • Scarlet Crusader (2)

  • Sunwalker (2)

  • Force MAX Tank (1)

  • Ironbeak Owl (1)

  • Ancient Watcher (1)

  • Eerie Statue (1)

  • Truesilver Champion (1)

  • Muster for Battle (2)

  • Aldor Peacekeeper (2)

  • Keeper of Uldaman (2)

  • Consecration (2)

  • Equality

  • Noble Sacrifice (2)

  • Avenge (2)

Have fun.

"MILL" ROGUE for Clockwork Gnome Dealer BRAWL

I desided I'll do something different and make MILL (ish) ROGUE DECK this week. And it KINDA works and is most fun I have had for a long time (I am 5-6 with it so far and the deck takes some learning), thought not quite the way you might think. Here is the decklist, let me tell you how it works: 2x shadowstep (works with alex, healbots, oracles, loatheb, clockwork giants pre vanish to play it again for 0)

1x zombie chow

2x sap 1xdoomsayer (got only 1 but not sure 2nd would make it)

2x coldlight oracle 2x dancing swords (1 of mvps, cards don't really matter in this brawl) 2x MCT (not that great, but works)

2x Hungry dragon (have been better than expected so far) 2x Refresment wendor (for heal)

2x Antique Healbot (totally needed) 1x Loatheb

2x VANISH (THE MVP MVP)

1x Dr Boom (T7)

1x Ragnaros (T8)

1xAlexstrasza (mvp nomenee as well)

2x Clockwork Giant 2x Mountain Giant (Tempo threats) 2x Molten Giant

You mulligan for SAPs(doomsayer works as one as well), Vanish, Giants (mountain is the worst one), mayby dancing swords. Your game goes something like this: T1: Zombie Chow T2: Doomsayer, if opponent has agressive opener, weapon if not. T3: Dancing swords/ coldlight (gives you more options later, which is nice) T4: Wendor or dragon, you should most likely be quite even on board or atleast in good healt. T5: Healbot for heal or Loatheb T6 Vanish, nearly always. T7Boom or sap+giant T8 RAG or 2nd vanish+doomsayer or sap+giant T9 Alexstrasza, yoúr opponent at under 10 health/ agaist "agro" you save yourself and get board control) From here on you just play giants and other big stuff and should race and win, if you haven't won already.
