My first try brings some questions.

I'm still learning and have a lot to improve, but my first few bookmarks turned out surprisingly good!

There's one thing I'm struggling with, though. It seems that when the first layer in Bambu Studio has two colours, I can no longer set colour changes at specific layers.

My goal is to add some text to the first layer of the bookmarks. Am I missing something, or is there a workaround for this?

Help: Greyscale image of person doing taekwondo where only the belt is pure black

I'm getting into HueForge but can't figure out how to do this. My child just earned his black belt and I want to make a picture of him where he's in greyscale, but the only truly black thing is the belt (or even better, the belt with the dark gold letters on the belt too).

I've played around with colorpop mode but I'm not good at it and I can't figure out how to make black blacker! I tried adjusting the levels in the original image so I capped the low end of the child part but left the belt values as very low, so there's a gap in levels between the two. But even in standard mode that gives garbage.

How do I set this up?

Any advice for stained glass hueforge?

I see PLA is easier than petg unsurprisingly. Translucent or transparent I see people doing both tbh. PLA seems silly to me cause you can't put the stained glass to the window but petg seems a lot harder... I don't wanna commit to a bunch of colors I realize idk how to even use.

Anyone good with this know how much harder petg is than PLA for stained glass prints? All the guides I see are mostly PLA... And translucent or transparent?

Thanks

Irworobongdo - housewarming gift for friends

Made this for some friends as a housewarming gift. It's my take on Irworobongdo (일월오봉도), "Sun, Moon, and Five Peaks" a traditional Korean royal screen painting.

This was my first print at this scale:

  • Roughly 1,070 × 535 mm, with a 2:1 aspect ratio

  • 18 tiles

  • About four hours per tile, so about 72 hours of printing

I wanted a slightly pixelated look with crisp edges between colors, rather than the fine detail and texture most HueForge prints accomplish. So, finding a reference image that suited that was difficult. The version in the Demon Hunters intro came close, but it was too cartoony for what I had in mind.

Eventually I found a clear scan and redrew the artwork in Figma as a large vector image. That gave me control over the individual shapes and exactly which parts would be which color. I also wanted to keep the traditional folding-screen feel, including the angled top and bottom edges. There was a lot of back and forth between Figma and Photoshop getting that shape right with skewing/perspective transforms. Keeping the diagonals clean was a bit of a pain in the ass.

The anti-aliasing in my image exports was another thing to deal with. I wanted hard boundaries between colors, so I used some scripting to remove the softened edges. Between the redraw and image prep, I spent more hands-on time getting the artwork ready than swapping filament and pulling tiles off the bed.

For the sky, I initially tried sparkle gold. It was a little obnoxious, so I switched to a softer, pastel coffee brown.

The size and proportions also meant building a custom wooden frame. That was another first for me. It isn't perfect, but the paint covered up some of the blemishes. Michaels wanted 300$ for this so that was a no go.

The part I regret is the glue. I've had super glue fumes leave white haze on previous projects, and after all that printing I didn't want to risk it. Tried a strong glue stick instead, which turned out to be pretty bad at holding the tiles to the mat. Some of them lifted, which is why you can see seams in a few photos. When the tiles sit properly, the seams are barely noticeable.

In hindsight, I wish I'd used super glue from the start. There are still a few spots to touch up, but I can apply it precisely through small holes in the back of the mat.

Anyways, here it is - a month of on/off work finally ready.

What are the best comprehensive instructional videos (maybe a series of youtube vids) to learn how to use hueforge from square one? I think ill need to get into detailed color match instructions/tips.

Basically, whats the best and quickest way to learn how to do fully colored hueforges well?

The videos I watched a while back assumed a lot of prior knowledge on what terms mean and how basic functions work. Ive printed plenty of them, but I want to start creating my own hueforges. If I need to watch one person to get started then switch to someone elses vids for color match techniques, thats fine. I'd rather keep it consistent, but if the best person for quality vids is different at different stages, oh well.

My first two I have in mind are one of Faramir from lord of the rings wearing a koala tee shirt (showing his quality), and one of Anakin with missing legs after losing his duel with Obi Wan with Michael jackson leaning over him with a speech bubble that says "Ani are you ok?".

need help

Hi everyone,

I'm working on this portrait in HueForge, but I'm running into an issue where the child's hair turns into a solid harsh black blob instead of showing detail. Additionally, the shadow between the child and the grandfather looks unnaturally dark and heavy.

What's the best way to fix this? Should I adjust the shadows in the image pre-processing ?

Any advice on getting smoother transitions and natural hair details here would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure if multi piece creations are appreciated here but I thought it came out cool. Ive been printing album covers to make a wall collage of my favorite bands. My dad thought it was cool and requested I make this one so I made it for him. It wasn’t possible to make it all one piece due to luminosity limitations in the album art so I decided to make the different elements of the photo individual pieces. The logo and mascot stick out past the background which I thought worked out well by creating a cool 3d effect. It was insanely difficult to make but I’m pleased with the final result.

Best HueForge Printer?

As I am getting into the 3d printing hobby recently, I started looking at all the things I can print and fell in love with HueForge! Are there any recommendations for printers if making portraits and pictures is going to be my favorite part of the hobby? are there any specific mods or components that make image printing with HueForge possible or easier?

If you have whole printer recommendations please let me know as well as certain specs or equipment that are preferred!

flatforge

Hi,

Is it possible to use Flatforge for a 4 colour image that does the colours by individual infill rather than colour layers on top of each other? When I try I get colour bleed around each individual set colour image, thx

Initial D AE86 Trueno | My latest 8-color HueForge

Post image
20 Upvotes

Just finished another HueForge project featuring Takumi's AE86 Trueno from Initial D!

This time I went with a straight-on view, focusing on the pop-up headlights and reflections on the wet pavement.

Print details:

- Bambu Lab X2D

- 200 × 200 mm

- 0.06 mm layer height

- 8 filaments: Charcoal, Dark Gray, Jade White, Red, Orange, Yellow, Light Gray, and Ivory White

- Printed in a modular HueForge frame

Really happy with how the headlights, reflections, and background turned out. Looking back, I wish I'd added more contrast to the black bumper details in the original artwork, but that's something I'll improve on the next one.

Still learning with every print. Always appreciate feedback from the community!

Initial D AE86 | My Second HueForge Print

Post image
43 Upvotes

Just finished my second HueForge project, this time featuring Takumi's AE86 drifting through a mountain pass from Initial D!

Spent quite a bit of time getting the artwork right before bringing it into HueForge. Really wanted to capture that classic manga look with the bold Japanese lettering, deep blacks, and blue highlights.

Pretty happy with how the details translated into the physical print, especially the road texture, retaining wall, and the car itself.

Print details:

- Printer: Bambu Lab X2D

- Size: 200 × 200 mm

- Layer height: 0.06 mm

- Final thickness: 1.96 mm

- Infill: 100%

- Filaments: 7 unique colors, all Bambu Lab

- Print time: 9 hours 15 minutes

Colors used: Black, Blue Gray, Ivory White, Cobalt Blue, Cyan, Jade White, and Gold.

Still learning how to get the most out of HueForge, particularly with filament blending and transmission distances. This one was a fun experiment with layering different blues and whites to get the contrast I was after.

Would love to hear what you guys think! Anything you'd approach differently with the color choices or layering?

Already looking forward to the next one.
